That’s okay. Double edged sword. If things don’t turn out the way the other side expects, the precedent is established: SCOTUS has no role. For example, let’s just speculate that Pence is indeed a traitor (I have thought so for at least a year) – so the swamp had him as their ace in a hole, which explains some of their behavior. If it turns out Pence isn’t there on Wednesday at 1 p.m., but someone who is a patriot is . . . They can’t go running to SCOTUS if that person puts the votes through a Dominion voting machine and it comes out 96 percent for Trump, can they?
SCOTUS is thoroughly corrupt. Anyone can see that now. It is taking itself out of the game, shooting itself in the foot. That’s actually good for our side.
Conservatives continually make the mistake that libs will regret their actions because they establish a precedent that is a double-edged sword. It doesn’t work that way. SC will not be taken out of the game, it will continue to invent lib laws that negatively affect us.
The pretense of impartiality is necessary to the illusion of legitimacy. SCOTUS lost a significant amount of legitimacy after Bush v. Gore because of the partisan split among the justices. SCOTUS can’t recover from a blatant about face here. Mask of legitimacy will be burned away. Consent of the governed irreparably lost. No one cares what Venezuela’s courts say because everyone understands they are just enforcers of tyranny. Will be same here.
Besides, I understand Roberts and Breyer are facing a deadline . . . And who knows what might come to light soon.

Been doing that already too. This will not/cannot stand in NY (or anywhere else in the USA) if it comes up and they try to vote it into law. Even in this deep blue state, the outrage over this will be heard provided the people understand exactly what it entails. That’s why I am sending it to whomever I can here and asking them to really think about what this is saying.

Cjzak-I just came across this post from NY Assemblyman Kieran Lalor. Kieran is a really good guy and he is one of the few with guts to stand up to the Dems. Here is his recent post on what he rightly calls “The Gulag Bill”.
The #GulagBill has been reintroduced for the 2021-2022 session. According to the bill’s sponsor, the proposed legislation permits “the governor or the appropriate health official to order the removal and detention of any person afflicted with a communicable disease in the event that there is a state of health emergency declared by the governor in relation to such disease.”

should say publicly that he will not sign it if passed. Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and all Assembly Dems should demand the sponsor withdraw it. This bill is brazenly unconstitutional and a threat to the civil liberties of all New Yorkers whether Republican, Democrat or independent.
When I posted about this bill on December 11, 2020 liberals attacked saying it was an old bill unrelated to Covid. They reasoned that because it hadn’t passed in prior sessions it was nothing to worry about. But the reality of Albany dysfunction is such that bad bills sit around for years and then a deal is cut and before the public realizes, the bill becomes law usually after a late night vote.
As a result of the 2020 elections, hard left NYC Democrats control supermajorities in both houses. Therefore, even if Cuomo did the right thing and vetoed it, the Dems can override the veto in both the Assembly and Senate.
If the GulagBill became law, useful idiots in the press would likely provide cover and rationalize the need for the legislation. By the time the constitutionality of detaining people without due process was adjudicated by the courts, it would be too late. New Yorkers would have suffered years of unspeakable abuses to their liberties.
Consequently, the mere existence of this bill is an unacceptable threat to the rights of all New Yorkers. It should be withdrawn immediately

This will not stand in NY. We may be a blue state but I think this would be pushing the people to far. We all need to be aware of what the truth is and pass it along. I have lived in my NY town for over 60 years and have been fighting politically for decades for taxpayer justice in our state. My family has strong roots here and we are not giving up yet. We do not want to be forced out of our home and our businesses. Even though we are in our 70s we cannot afford to “retire.”
So we fight as best we can. That being said, if it gets to the point that it seriously looks like they are coming after us for the camps- we will pack up what we can and leave.

There’s an opinion out there that we are surrounded by fighters in our State’s and are “giving up.” THAT is untrue. We are surrounded by socialists that WANT to be oppressed…we are not in a battle…we are prisoners. We ain’t gonna singlehandedly overtake this enemy (“there are trillions at stake”)…not as captives at least. Seems more plausible to escape, rejoin with friendly forces, and participate in the war from there. At least then, you are around like minds and can ENJOY life and freedom again.
I appreciate this sentiment (CO here, as well), and a part of me is drawn to it. I am conflicted, myself.
However, I also worry that this is not just a “tactical retreat”, especially given that no states have truly decided to assert their sovereignty. There is no movement for the remaining republic to take a stand and band together. Whats special in WY (or TX or others), other than a few optimized local laws, that we think it is hidden away from the growing reach of the Leviathan, the evil empire? This is no joke. People have the attention span of a flea. They want instant gratification to keep that dopamine rush. They are unable to read books or long essays. They need to communicate with as few words as possible because they can’t form complete sentences.
Books are banned from libraries. Kids aren’t allowed to read books in school. Everything is done on a screen and needs electricity. They don’t know the joy of holding a book and reading it, even if the power goes out.

It was about 10-15 years ago, maybe when the kindle had taken hold…I was in my local Barnes and Noble and was distressed to see the ‘children’s’ section was filled with very expense ‘educational’ sets (toys) that contained a very small book. There were less books on the shelves, for kids.
Capitalism being what it is…I suspect the store stocked what sells bigly and is higher priced…and its not real books…so who is to blame? The parents who have the purchasing power.
Globalism being what it is…the tech giants must be providing internet service to schools, which also explains the rapid increase in ‘screen’ learning.
Our kids are deprived of the true joy of reading…and what it creates: imagination and critical thinking. I wonder what life would be like with the imagination–critical thinking of the likes of Benjamin Franklin Thomas Edison or Albert Einstein?
Since then, I have not been in B & N and have no intention of doing so again.

Oh, come on now. Don’t everyone freak just yet. I am not in NY, but I was quickly able to see what is going on here and it is not quite what you are portraying.
New York Assembly Rep. Nick Perry of East Flatbush in Brooklyn has introduced this very same bill every year since 2015 — long before Covid. Perry introduces it and it is assigned to the Health Committee, where it is allowed to languish and die. He does not seem to have ever gotten a co-sponsor for it and it has never been voted forward out of committee. So far as I can see, it never even gets a vote of any kind. It simply goes nowhere. That is probably what will happen this year as well.
I had never heard of Perry before, but it looks like he seldom gets bills out of committee and actually signed into law. He has been in the NY legislature since 1992 (just reelected for his 15th term) and does not appear to get much done. He seems to be occupying a safe seat, sitting back with his feet up not doing much of anything. If he wants to, I bet he will stay in that seat until they wheel him out feet first. He clearly is a union-supporting left-wing assemblyman, and is probably a reliable vote for anything the Democrat leadership wants him to support.
If this bill actually does start gaining co-sponsors and other supporters and gets voted out of committee, then certainly do raise the alarm. But the way it looks right now, this is a nothingburger.

Sure. I would not rule out anything with these people. But why would Perry start introducing it back in 2015? I have not heard of similar bills being introduced in other state legislatures. If you could gather together all the nutty and sometimes plain evil left wing bills introduced in all the states and territories every year, it would surely boggle the mind. But most never go anywhere and are not necessarily evidence of deep conspiracies.
One thing that would take more digging and maybe need more knowledge of New York politics than I possess would be to find out who wrote that bill for Perry. He does not sound smart enough to have written it himself. What group (possibly one of those on his list of campaign donors?) wrote that monstrosity? It would be very interesting to find out who that was and what they are all about. But to get it passed, they are going to have to get more legislators on board than just Perry.

Will – Right there with you, however I limit my viewing to two college teams – when they are actually on TV. I used to love college football. Last year my alma mater’s coach marched arm and arm with AA players in support of BLM. He was either trying to gain favor with the AA players cynically or he actually believes in the Burn, Loot , Murder cause. I haven’t watched a bit of it and wasn’t even aware that the playoffs were this week. I miss the Saturday night games in particular but once you break the habit I wont go back.

We lost there but I used it as a positive springboard to ask him to please join Hawley on objecting to the electors from the contested states. I would suggest we all write our senators with the same message but particularly the dozen or so Rs who voted against the veto override — they may be especially amenable to buck McConnell (again) on this all important issue.
