Secretary Esper gave an interview to the Military Times the day after the election indicating he would not follow any further orders from the administration. These public comments likely led to his removal.

We can’t keep ceding ground and moving on every time the left infiltrates government (&/or the republican party), in a particular town, city, state, or area of the country and indoctrinates/propagandizes the citizenry. The left will just keep following and do the same thing over and over again in the freedom loving areas of the country.
We have to learn to take back ground from the Marxist/communist left and reeducate the citizenry, reversing decades of propaganda by the left. We need to learn to work patiently by degree and think long term just as the Marxists do and eventually root the left out from every position of power.

Fla Officers are nominated for their rank and approved by the SENATE.
That means Shanghai Mitch has put many of the current crop of political Flag Officers into their positions.
The political environment of the Armed Services is self perpetuating as the boards used to select officers for promotion are manned by other officers of senior rank and civilian political figures in the case of general officers. The same is true for senior enlisted ranks from grade E-5 and up, with boards composed of enlisted members of senior grade or a mix of officers and senior enlisted personnel.
Exactly. The senior ranks of the military are full of trash because that’s the way the US Senate likes it. And for a long time now the Senate has been controlled by the GOP and Cocaine Mitch.

You’ve never sat on an E-5 promotion board, have you? They literally get asked service branch trivia, and more normal “interview” questions like “what would you do in this scenario?” Enlisted boards are NOT political. Neither are CGO or FGO boards.
The military is weirdly disconnected from national politics at the lower levels. Instead, it’s obsessed with its own internal politics, which can be very strange. O-5s are either on their way out and don’t care, or furiously competing for that strat line on their performance reports, which can be based on anything from “who f-ed the GO briefing last week” to “what did you blow up that you shouldn’t have.”
O-6 is where it gets political. O-7, general/admiral, promotions are the only ones handled directly by Congress, and at that point, national politics very much do matter. But usually not until then.
I should add; politics do get foisted on the officer corps, mostly through the professional education schools. But I don’t know anybody who’s still buying the “nation building is a great strategy!” stuff. That’s all been greatly decreased under Trump. Unfortunately, it was pushed hard under Obama and that’s the generation of GOs we have right now.

The implication of the supposed comment is that Esper would, in his capacity as DOD, ignore the orders of the president. I don’t believe he would say that much less do that.

The president had probably been waiting until after his victory on Nov 3rd or 4th. And Barr would have gone, too. Now he might think he needs them for some aspect of investigating the election fraud. Such a realignment would be best for the DoD. Remove the Social Justice Warriors and focus on the mission of the DoD.
