Traditionally speaking Republicans are insufferably inept at messaging; the messaging on the Ryan Budget is a great example of their ineptitude.

President Obama takes $716 Billion out of the Medicare Program via expenditures and reimbursements to medical providers.   This is a factual consequence of “Obamacare”.  It is not disputed.   While the argument they should face, and be held to account for, is about “impact”, the factual reality of the shift of the money stands as a consequence of Obamacare and the Romney/Ryan team is correct to hold President Obama accountable for it.

However, the counter point from the Obama campaign is to continually point out that in Paul Ryan’s budget proposal he also maintained these same $716 billion reductions.  Subsequently they frame the Ryan budget as hypocritical.    This is where Republicans suck.

The Obamacare reductions were written into law when Obamacare was passed and signed by the President.   Get that?   Key words “written into law“.

Paul Ryan could not, and cannot, just ignore current law when proposing a budget moving forward.   He “had to” keep the current law, as it exists, included within his proposal.   He could not just arbitrarily just remove the existing law and act “as if” it does not exist.  It does.

If President Obama passed a law mandating a 55 MPH federal highway speed limit, regardless of whether Paul Ryan wanted to drive 75 MPH he is bound to obey the law as it is legislated.   He can propose a 75 mph speed limit, but he must drive 55 mph between campaign stops or be in violation of the law.

Paul Ryan had to accept the Obamacare law, and all current laws, that are on the books at the time of his proposal.  He could not, and cannot, rewrite Obamacare legislation within a budget.  That is not what budgets are for.

Why can’t Republicans put this simple truth into their script and explain it like a conservative?

Insufferable.
