CNN-largeNEW YORK – CNN chief Jeff Zucker stressed in a year-end memo to staff that more changes are coming to the network in 2014.
“If you thought we did a lot in 2013, wait until you see 2014,” Zucker wrote in a memo published by Deadline Hollywood. “Real change that transforms an organization doesn’t happen overnight. I have talked a lot about broadening the definition of news. You have seen the start of that, especially at CNN, where we have begun to introduce new series, documentaries and films to augment our best-in-class breaking news coverage.”
He was referring in part to the addition of new types of programming — such as Anthony Bourdain’s “Parts Unknown” and Morgan Spurlock’s “Inside Man” — that depart from traditional CNN newscasts. Zucker touted the primetime Emmys for Bourdain’s show and recognition for CNN’s film division, as well as hard news coverage, in his note.
The memo underlined a message that Zucker has pushed ever since he arrived at CNN at the beginning of the year, and that he reiterated again this month.
“The goal for the next six months, is that we need more shows and less newscasts,” he told Capital New York.  (continue reading)

The cinematography in the Bourdain show is indeed exceptional;  actually, it’s arguably the best cinematography ever on TV – outside of NatGeo and Discovery programming.   However, CNN shifting to entertainment programming in a chase for ratings within a news outlet just solidifies how their broadcasting bias in the newsroom is beyond repair.

The shadows in the media jungle no longer support camouflage.  The New-Media and on-line news blogs/discussions have brought a sunlight to their jungle affording untold new awakenings.    This CNN leopard cannot change its spots…. so it switches jungles.
