After seeing coordinated false attacks against the Utah data center project, we brought in an advanced data science team to trace where the content was coming from and the results were shocking. What we found led back to organized networks, political activist groups, and funding trails tied to massive international entities. We dug through IRS 990 filings, tracked IP data from around the world, and uncovered what appears to be a coordinated campaign targeting energy and data center projects across multiple regions.

I shared 90 pages of evidence with federal law enforcement and raised concerns directly with contacts at the White House. This isn’t speculation. The filings, funding records, dates, and connections are documented. There’s a coordinated PR war happening around energy infrastructure and data centers, and we’re not going to ignore it.

Power The Future’s new report “Manufactured Outrage: How National Environmental Activists Are Spending Millions to Elect Democrats, Block Data Centers, and Undermine President Trump’s Pro-Growth Agenda” exposes a coordinated, billionaire-funded and potentially foreign-backed campaign to obstruct data center and Artificial Intelligence (AI) infrastructure development across the United States.

The report finds the anti-data-center movement is not grassroots, but a coordinated national campaign fueled by massive political spending and activist organizations aligned with partisan goals. Among the findings:

* $98 billion in data center investment was disrupted in a single quarter (Q2 2025), more than the total disruptions of the previous two years combined.

* The report exposes a coordinated campaign led by national eco-left groups such as the Sierra Club, Food & Water Watch, Earthjustice, and the Southern Environmental Law Center, backed by dark money networks to stop data center projects across the country.

* More than $150 million was spent by these same environmental groups to elect Democrats in 2024, before pivoting to target data center development nationwide.

* The Arabella/Sunflower network disbursed approximately $1 billion in grants in 2023, funding advocacy campaigns while shielding donor identities.

* The $24.7 billion Prince William Digital Gateway project was halted after coordinated legal and activist pressure, one of the largest infrastructure losses cited in the report.

* Virginia alone has seen $45.8 billion in data center projects disrupted, underscoring the scale of the campaign at the state level.

* More than 300 anti-data-center bills were filed across 30+ states in just six weeks, demonstrating a level of coordination far beyond local opposition.

In 2016, the Democratic Party generated hysteria over supposed (but almost entirely fictitious) interference by a foreign power in our election. What is going on now appears to be real, not fabricated, and it likely will impact our country’s future far more than a single presidential election. The influence of the Chinese Communist Party on local, supposedly grass roots activism needs to be investigated and, as appropriate, exposed.

Data centers have been with us since the 1980’s. We have depended on them in everyday use such as streaming, banking, texting, social connection, transportation, etc.
We currently have about 5000 data centers.

They have NEVER been a problem or presented concerns about ecology, energy, water, or health in the past 80 years.

So, I have been wondering why now? Why the public outrage? NOW?

Some of the concerns about the effects of adding several thousand additional data centers all of a sudden are valid, but may be overstated and exaggerated in some areas (much like they did with climate change).

The main reason for needing to build thousands more data centers is due to the expected AI explosion. Who ever leads in that race will have a lot of influence globally. And, although I have my own worries about how AI will be used…. if AI is coming no matter what…. I certainly prefer that it be lead by the US, NOT CHINA (for many ethical reasons –not just economical ones).

So, yes, although concerns are genuine and need to be studied and addressed to satisfaction…..I think the war against data centers is clearly a foreign and political influence campaign against the US winning the AI superiority war. No doubt China is behind much of it as our number one geo-political enemy.
