I’m old enough to remember that Ukraine was a part of the Soviet Union and Russia for longer than its not been. The first time Ukraine became an independent nation was upon the breakup of the Soviet Union. At no time in all of history prior to the breakup did the Ukrainian people have independence. The borders they inherited from the old USSR were drawn by other peoples and nations and do not reflect where all the ethnically Ukrainian people lived and where only they lived. Other people’s homelands overlap those borders, including Poles, Hungarians, Romanians, and others, including Russians. And the Ukrainian people’s traditional homeland overlaps into most of their neighbor’s counties as well. That whole area reflects an historical mess that makes resolution of all the issues surrounding the present war more complicated and hard to put an end to.
And you are correct that the U.S. never had any business getting involved. But all the DS and IC operators and their political benefactors, both U.S. and European, needed a place to do all their money laundering and other business they wanted kept out of sight of their voters. That is happening in many parts of the world, but Ukraine was the most perfect for their needs. Well out of sight and out of mind of all those Western voters, and with a more or less Western legal system and understandable culture for the operators to do their business in. And they did a thriving and profitable business. And then Putin invaded and threatened all their ill-gotten gains. If Ukraine hadn’t been the primary playground for all those DS and IC operators, would the U.S. and EU have reacted to Putin’s invasion the way they did? If they hadn’t been acting the way they were, would Putin have felt any need to invade?

This argument rests on a flawed premise that buys into Ossoff’s sleight of hand. The core issue behind many of the attacks on President Trump is that elements of the intelligence community have drifted beyond their constitutional lane, effectively acting as if they hold decision-making authority that belongs to the president.
Rather than attacking Tulsi, people should recognize that she is restoring the proper boundary. The intelligence community assesses threats, and the president determines whether a threat is imminent and what, if anything, to do about it. Reversing that order hands decisions of war and peace to unelected operatives rather than the elected commander in chief.
