The Democrats are threatening to refuse to support a stopgap spending measure to extend federal spending. President Trump is calling them out and refusing to meet with them until they get serious about it.
After passing a clean CR in the House, Republicans in the Senate are pushing a “clean” seven-week continuing resolution, which they say will buy time for more negotiations on full-year spending bills and possibly an extension of expiring health insurance subsidies. Democrats, meanwhile, wrote an alternative four-week punt that tacks on a laundry list of other demands, including a permanent extension of the insurance subsidies.
Should the government shut down, Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought will determine which elements and agencies of the government are considered essential and which will be shuttered until the budget is extended.
President Donald Trump – “After reviewing the details of the unserious and ridiculous demands being made by the Minority Radical Left Democrats in return for their Votes to keep our thriving Country open, I have decided that no meeting with their Congressional Leaders could possibly be productive.
They are threatening to shut down the Government of the United States unless they can have over $1 Trillion Dollars in new spending to continue free healthcare for Illegal Aliens (A monumental cost!), force Taxpayers to fund Transgender surgery for minors, have dead people on the Medicaid roles, allow Illegal Alien Criminals to steal Billions of Dollars in American Taxpayer Benefits, try to force our Country to again open our Borders to Criminals and to the World, allow men to play in women’s sports, and essentially create Transgender operations for everybody.”
“These Radical Left Views and Policies is what allowed me to win the Presidential Election, including all seven Swing States, and the Popular Vote, IN A HISTORIC LANDSLIDE. There are consequences to losing Elections but based on their letter to me, the Democrats haven’t figured that out yet. They are trying to eliminate the popular $50 Billion Dollar Rural and Vulnerable Hospital Fund, which was passed with only Republican Votes, and proudly signed into Law by ME.
The Democrats in Congress seem to have totally lost their way. They obviously have no idea what it means to put America First or to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! All Congressional Democrats want to do is enact Radical Left Policies that nobody voted for — High Taxes, Open Borders, No Consequences for Violent Criminals, Men in Women’s Sports, Taxpayer funded “TRANSGENDER” surgery, and much more. Few people voted for what they represent, which would lead to the destruction of America.
Instead, people voted for COMMON SENSE, and that’s what the Republicans and your President, “DONALD J. TRUMP,” stand for. I look forward to meeting with them if they get serious about the future of our Nation. We must keep the Government open and legislate like true Patriots rather than hold American Citizens hostage, knowing that they want our now thriving Country closed.
I’ll be happy to meet with them if they agree to the Principles in this Letter. They must do their job! Otherwise, it will just be another long and brutal slog through their radicalized quicksand. To the Leaders of the Democrat Party, the ball is in your court. I look forward to meeting with you when you become realistic about the things that our Country stands for. DO THE RIGHT THING!”
DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A shutdown is never really a shutdown.
In any event: if Schumer doesn’t want to sign on to the “clean” CR, then just shut down.
And spend tons of media time blaming the Dems.
And for a change: don’t be embarrassed to use your power. That’s what tne GOP Establishment likes to do.
Fed employees hate him already for not allowing them to do what private companies do. work remote when possible.
a shutdown of getting to go home and get paid would be cheered and a Dem win. the Fed hasnt been downsized enough to where their vote doesnt matter in Red states
Why would we fund a loser clown show when we voted for and already have the greatest show on earth.
The Democrat reaction to Russ Vought during a shutdown would be the ultimate clown show in response to the greatest show on earth.
Gee whiz it’s almost like they shouldn’t have taken the month of August off.
Or this entire week right before the fiscal deadline next Tuesday!
We haven’t had an actual budget passed by Congress since around 2007.
Are we ever going to return to a rules based government where spending is negotiated by both parties and the Senate and the House where elected officials vote on the final bill and then they can be held accountable in the next election cycle.
These days the clowns in Congress vote under cover of darkness for spending bills that extend all spending and then in the light of day they vote on meaningless fake bills so to make their local constituents happy and to run on the meaningless votes the next election cycle.
They are all Gutless sneaky deceptions .
Correct, Almost 20 years..
The payola occurs under the cover of darkness.
The government shuts down every weekend, and somehow we survive. Makes me hate both sides.
While the democrats are vile and blatantly obvious with their BS List … a list which will never see the teleprompter on a MSM News Broadcast … a list meant to kill off any meanful discussions …. when David Muir reads the President refuses to negotiate with the democrats on the 5pm news …. I still cannot let Speaker Johnson and Majority Leader Thune off the hook for blatant cowardly conduct in the face of the enemy for refusing to govern.
ALL they need to to do is pull a Harry Reid – Nancy Pelosi and change the dam operating rules of the House and Senate … then quote Nancy Pelosi (2018) and Barack Obama (2009) “Elections have consequences … we won and Republican (Democrat) Opinions do not matter”.
The 60 vote BS and Filibusters get flushed down the toilet … while the Republicans ram a Regular order Budget through the Congress .. as well as ALL 250+ of President Trumps appointees.
The lack of action by Johnson and Thune are the most damaging and even more repugnant than the democrats.
Yes! Thank you. I’m am so tired of gutless republicans.
Democrats are so dumb. Even dumber than our party of dumb. “Should the government shut down, Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought will determine which elements and agencies of the government are considered essential and which will be shuttered until the budget is extended.”
They REALLY want that? I mean, I do, but they surely can’t see what’s coming if that’s what they make Russ Vought do.
Their pet attack dog radical district judges get shutdown in about two weeks. They can run a bit longer if they saved for the shutdown, but I doubt they have been able to do that with the flurry of anti-Trump lawsuits. The Democrats are effectively making Trump the King they so fear. The Presidency never shuts down.
Schumer saved them last time and they hated him for that, so now in desperation to save his Senate seat from AOC he is going along with the nonsense at it won’t save his seat anyway. The Democrats just keep hurting them. Even Jefferies is to spineless to endorse or denounce a communist.
Essential vs. non-essential employees…. has a familiar ring to it.
I’d say at least 80% of all govt. employees are non-essential. Cut them loose and never let them near a govt. position again.
I gather most here feel that Russ Vought will be able to matriculate through a shutdown by funding the important things and eliminating things which should have been anyway.
We should see non-stop the clips of leftists describing why the government should not be shutdown – when it was to their advantage.
We have been saying since January that they would do this. Their reputation for NOT doing their job holds up, this is their failure, and largely on Speaker Johnson.
The House passed the bill. This is about the Senate and last minute insane demands. It’s Thune not Johnson. Yet if the Democrats were always going to shut the government down the seats in the Senate are to close to prevent it. The Democrats think their lies will sway the public to their side and Trump will get the blame for the shutdown at midterms. I doubt that, but voters are fickle, you never know.

Jake: “[…] and Trump will get the blame for the shutdown at midterms.”
Let’s wait and see how much a government shutdown affects the country. My guess is not much, and it wouldn’t surprise me to find that more people are cheering a shutdown than are POd about a shutdown.
The people who will be POd mostly will be federal employees without paychecks coming in. But not many of them vote MAGA so it won’t affect vote tallies by much
My 2¢.
I’d like to see them not get paid for the time they are home during a shutdown. The employees don’t really care because they know the back pay always comes through.
Maybe they should officially be laid off during the shut-down to avoid the whole back pay issue.
Stupid Dems…their worst nightmare …russ decides what is essential…lol…keep it shut down ..the Dems are so stupid …pure evil
..but stupid…lol
If their jobs aren’t essential then why are taxpayers paying them?
deleted. Wrong thread.
There has to be a benefit to the government shutting down, more than just the usual. Won’t this mean that OMB/DOGE can get rid of even more departments/personnel?
