.
I have the utmost resect For Linda McMahon.
Linda is pure class and intellect.
Agreed! Praying now that all children get the education they deserve.
Indeed.
I am so upset that I pay $5K per year in NYS, and we have graduating students with a third grade reading level.
On their way to Hahvahd where remedial classes in the 3 Rs are offered.
Wish it were sarcasm.
It isn’t.
Giving abortion control back to the states hasn’t had the effect of stopping abortions or am I missing something here. Giving the responsibility for education TOTALLY back to states like Hawaii, Vermont, New Mexico, California, Oregon Minnesota, and Washington et al will not fix problems with reading and math.
Education is not complicated if it is carried out for the purpose of a good education for all.
Marxist and Communist don’t want the underdogs of society to be educated or skilled. They want control. Perhaps the Department of Education didn’t do its job. I watched education change over 40 years. Books and research told us 25 years ago that our education system was failing.
What do we expect the changes to be and who will make them happen? There aren’t enough seats available throughout the USA in good schools. We have to make ALL schools better but throwing in the towel just elevates the job into the hands of leftist in many places.
Rikka, up until 1979, education was up to the States and local governments. Each State now has it’s own department of education and a university system. Dissolving the Federal DoE just means the States retain that money that went to DC and they can cater to their own citizens…the taxpayers and parents of those students.
Some States will be better than others, some counties and municipal systems will be better than others…but the control will be local again and that’s what matters.
It’s like these aps popping up in this age, good idea turns into a profit. And schools didn’t fail they did what federal government wanted. What do you think our federal government is for? Seriously, step back and read out loud the attributes of the federal government, it’s a means to capture a society for communism or some “ism” not an asset. That has been the battle all along and people need to realize it and speak it out.
Education of our youth was a privilege, “if” you were lucky you were educated in reading, writing, arithmetic, history, religion was the source, as it always should have been. Teach children God, right and wrong, how to think, then the tools to accomplish.
I know families who sacrifice to home school, smartest kids I know because public schools are horrible at every level. People think home schoolers are weird. No, they are normal it’s this world that’s crazy and we all pretend it’s not. 12 year olds having sex, or younger? Not good. Smoking at 11, tattoos, abortions, drugs, that’s what public schools promote not education.
My boys bounced between the mustard and mayonnaise but always knew what was right, because I was there, every day, and loved them.
Can you love a child of your own and abort it? Can you love your child and say “you’re not the right sex”? Can it be love to introduce drugs or alcohol before they are able to make good decisions? Sex, abortions, tattoos. Another thing, they ain’t yours! They are a blessing from God, they are his and what you make of them. If you see them as a blessing you will Carry whatever weight gladly. They are not a burden, a gift.
What happens now to and for our kids is up to us now. I pray this country steps up instead of back.
Found in the bin…. 🙁
Who’s throwing in the towel?
The changes are billions of dollars going nowhere. That is what this ultimately is all about. Let’s not kid ourselves. This is an organization wholly ran by democrats and laundering their money just like ever other one Musk is going after. This stops their control over DEI, climate nonsense, hating America etc going on in some of these schools.
Give control back to the states. There is no provision for education in our constitution. Money will get lost but not at a federal bureaucracy level.
By the way, being a former educator for 32 years in the classroom, you will never convince me that every school in this country has been corrupted by this. I knew enough, many, conservative teachers in my home town where this nonsense was not taking place on such extreme levels.
Throwing in the towel, no. The first thing is get discipline back into the classrooms. There is no learning without it. Trust me to know, you might be the most brilliant and knowledgeable in your subject area. If you can’t control your classroom and get idiots out who do not want to be there, you WILL NOT be successful. Yes, it is truly that simple with some other minor adjustments.
Todd, as a former 26-year educator, I completely concur! And it will be interesting to see the comparisons between the Red and Blue states as to student achievement. Parents will be able to vote with their feet.
Competition of differing systems is always a better opportunity for improvement and a shield against corruption than perpetuation of a single, central system. Centralization strengthens the policies and power of a single system, right or wrong. De-centralization frees policies for self-improvement and seeking excellence over alternate systems. Some will take advantage of the opportunity. Those that do not use this advantage will always look bad in the light of their obvious failures compared to those that perform. Under a central system, there is no competing excellence to compare with, save other such systems. That’s why we can only compare our educational disaster with other countries, but then people often don’t see that comparison as meaning anything, because we are America, always good enough, even when we forget what greatness looks like.
She has exceptional character.
To be hired to do a job, that she knew was going to end up being eliminated, the entire Department! She has to understand, that leftists are going to hate her, with a passion!
All the respect in the world, I give to this woman.
She was hired to oversee the dissolution.
AMEN.
Me too. She was congenial and forthright, polite and well-informed.
She didn’t shrink from a potentially loaded question regarding Randi Weingarten, but she didn’t get baited, either. She didn’t allow the questioning to become about Weingarten.
I feel alright knowing Sec.McMahon is a straight shooter and a serious person.
Quite the golden parachute for a box of slugs who couldn’t fill their job descriptions if their lives depended on it.
Have to love the totally worthless teachers union crying. If that union’s focus was on their core responsibilities of educating kids rather then indoctrination, money and political power, the US wouldn’t be near the bottom globally in test scores.
The first screecher, back in January, I think, was the President of one of the teacher unions. Come to find out, she had a good reason to screech: she made $500,000 a year!
The Union cares about its members, the teachers. It does not care about the kids.
Bull$hit. You no zero about teachers unions. They do not even help teachers. Trust me, as I mentioned before, I taught for 32 years and no they are no there for teachers. They are there for teachers dues in closed shop unions.
Teachers had no choice in contributing to the unions, even if they didn’t join.
I think the SC may have recently reversed the ‘agency shop fees’.
She has been in the wrestling ring…she is unflappable.
Excellent.
YES!
As Oldretiredguy stated above, the teachers union has to be crying. To borrow from the WWF when I was a kid….
“THAT’S GOTTA HURT, GENE !!!!”
Ooooh yeah! (Borrowed that from Macho Man Randy Savage) !
And tough as nails!
I would like to see her get in the ring with Weingarten.
If this results in a big boast in test scores, some Soros Judge will order that Trump return these students to their previous dumber state.
Via a lobotomy? 🤓
No need.
Good one!
There must be many ways to cancel that slug.
When I was 11, the state of California created the California Lottery to help fund the schools. FORTY YEARS LATER, the California Pubic Schools EXCEL at teaching Boy are Girls, and Girls are Boys and how to put Condoms on Vegetables instead of Reading and Math.
The Department of Education did nothing to stop the decent into madness nor made California even pause to consider the error of its ways. And that was during two Bush administrations.
descent …at an indecent rate.
@John… I like that “descent … at an indecent rate.” 🙂
In NYS, the politicians pulled off that same dung to get the State Constitution amended to allow state lotteries.
The politicians claimed the proceeds would go towards keeping your school taxes down.
Not sure of the year, it was in my lifetime – so probably 1960’s – early 70’s
————–
Edit: 1966
https://www.nylottery.org/information/history
“…November 1966
New Yorkers voted for a constitutional amendment calling for the implementation of a state-run lottery. Over 60% voted in favour of the amendment, which specified that all profits from the lottery must be used to fund education in the state…”

Back in the early 1980’s, the city of Buffalo lowered their standards for police officers in order to get more minority applicants successfully through the process.
Shortly after that, the department had to start providing remedial classes to officers that could not fill out basic police forms in the course of their duties.
We have some of the highest taxes and most onerous anti-2nd Amendment unconstitutional laws in this Republic – if is still one.
Yeah, I remember that bullshit they laid on us in the sixties. Politicians are the modern-day Mafia. Always make sure your weapon is loaded. With Hollow point that is. No joke.
Self-defense only. Reamer that.
Remember that.
Every “child left behind” W & Dick set the stage for what were getting rid of today.
I remember those insane government sponsored SEX EDucation workshops that started during the Bush administration and continued. It was hard for adults to deliver the curriculum content and many left education because they wanted no part of what was mandated to be taught or loose federal funding. Obama continued the crusade of shocking students into understanding sex acts and diseases that one might catch having unprotected sex. All this was done to stop unwanted pregnancy. Go figure.
No it wasn’t. It was done to ruin our kids, and steal their innocence.
Yup!
I was teaching kindergarten when this bull***t was going on. I’ll never forget the time I was required to have a woman come into my classroom to give a talk on “Good touch, Bad touch.” She was one of those feminist libtards. When she left, my poor kiddos were SO confused! I went down to the principal’s office and blew a gasket!

Harvard Students Can’t Do Math
https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2025/03/harvard-students-cant-do-math.php
I just want to put out there that California will turn many of its schools to Spanish speaking.
Instead they should be putting the non English speaking students in English immersion classes.
Mexicans aren’t the first immigrants in the history of the world.
Hands down clear path for students learning the language of their new homeland is just sticking them in regular classes and letting their pre-wired to more easily learn young brains soak up in weeks what their parents may never fully learn.
At the end of the 20th century, CA tried that, hiring Spanish teachers for children that spoke only Spanish and it was such a dismal obvious to anyone looking divisive failure, they had to stop it.
Then, in the 2000s, they had Two Way Immersion and it was harder to find the Spanish speaking students who are native speakers or who have grown up in a home with native speakers, than the English speaking kids whose parents wanted to open their students’ neural pathways to language early, setting them up to not only more easily learn other languages in the future, but enhance their ability to learn in general.
Finally, as anyone who has travelled well knows, English is spoken in Mexico to the point a tourist doesn’t need to speak much Spanish to visit, like much more so than any other Latin country, so I’m not getting the basis for your remarks?
I am pleased to see federal DOE dissolved ; however I think this will have a small impact on fixing the bigger problems
My blue state Colorado DOE will continue to indoctrinate kids with DEI ideologies —steady diet of yammering about racism and America’s failures. No talk of America’s values and great accomplishments.
and Colorado DOE will continue to require teaching of math with ineffective and unproven”new math” concepts which impede , not enhance learning
And Colorado DOE will continue to require teachers to attempt to teach reading without phonics.
My interpretation is that teachers are not in control over curriculum. They are required to try to teach the nonsense that is dictated to them by state administrations .
Some Students are lazy and give up. But in my view most students are not to blame for their failing grades. I would fail too if presented with some of these silly assignments
I have witnessed this first hand as a substitute teacher every day for past year in all k-12 grades
Except most of the teachings you mention have been made unlawful by Executive Order, otherwise States, Schools and Teachers lose Federal funding. See how that works?
All the hype about “dissolving” the Department of Education – but it is not being dissolved or shut down, only reduced.
Shutting it down would require an act of Congress.
And all the people running around parroting the lie that it is being shut down by Trump.
Shouldn’t we try to help gullible people understand the truth, instead of exploiting them for political gain?
We are heading down a path of even lower standards of education and it is a sad day. What is in place today is bad but it can get worse. Reading through some of these comments and looking under stumbling blocks to education today. We are headed for decades of dumbed down people in this nation. BEWARE throwing out the baby with the filthy dishwater.
Schools are such a big part of communities that everyone thinks it is all the other schools that are doing bad, not theirs.
You are showing your complete lack of historical knowledge.
The U.S. did MUCH, MUCH better educating our children BEFORE the DOE was ever conceived. The DOE has been the 2nd biggest marker of the decline in U.S. education standards. The first was taking God and prayer out of the schools in the 1960s and replacing Him with the ABSOLUTE religion of secular humanism.
Sec McMahon has pulled a flying suplex on the bureaucracy. Ref in for a short count…
Ah, let’s all hope that this is the beginning of the end for the Leftist teachers unions & the insufferable Randi Whinegarten!!
And say g/bye soon Randi to that posh $500k salary that you’ve been pulling down too.
You next job will be asking customers “You want fries with that?”
Someone described the Education Department as Carter’s gift to the teacher’s unions.
To read the facts instead of the legacy media’s fear mongering, and that of their trolls, makes the latter stand out like sore thumbs – https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/03/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-empowers-parents-states-and-communities-to-improve-education-outcomes/
People hear what they want to hear. Linda explicitly stated that they are talking about where the civil rights functions will go, they aren’t abandoning anything important.
The difference now will be there will be fewer entities getting a cut before federal aid goes to the states.
Yes I know Mrs. McMahon’s job was different than President Trump’s Education Secretary during his first term, but look at how much better a grasp she has in a short amount of time than Betsy DeVos had in four long years.
Yet Betsy was the “expert”.
Are we going to find the Dept of Ed was responsible for the books which were not allowed to be read at school board meetings but made available to children in school libraries?
Very straightforward lady. I’m impressed.
There is an old Jewish saying, “anyone who does not teach his son a skill, or profession may be regarded as if he is teaching him to rob. A cement mason taught this to me. It is up to us a people, not the teachers. Learning begins at home.
