Comrade Annastacia Palaszczuk said construction has begun on Thursday for a dedicated regional quarantine facility at Wellcamp Airport near Toowoomba following months of discussion. The premier said the fit-for-purpose facility will be ready by the end of the year and will eventually have the capacity for 1,000 beds.
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Thursday the facility does not meet national guidelines but wished the state “every success”.
The federal government has previously said it was not in favor of a quarantine facility at Wellcamp because it did not meet the criteria of being within easy access of a passenger airport terminal or tertiary hospital.

I honestly don’t understand why Americans go on about Australia though. In QLD they had a lockdown in 2020, for less than 6 weeks, you could visit your hairdresser during lockdown – 6 people died. Most people worked from home, the kids went back to school in May, 2020, full time & stayed there, no masks, playing contact sport, going on School Camp in September, 2020. Our families went on vacation, partied in Costume masks on New Years Eve – we were at home with surgical masks on still, at that time. Our kids were not in school full time still.
Queensland has a population of 5+Million people, NY State has a population of 19+ Million people – in QLD 6 people died during the original lockdown in 2020, another male died in April 2021 – perhaps a few more since.
In NY State 55000 people died In Nursing Homes alone.
I certainly do not condone any of what is going on in Australia, but the country is approximately the same size as the United States, excluding Alaska, with 25+Million people – so it was going to be difficult to ever achieve herd immunity. Some towns never recorded even one case of Covid, in QLD.

My family are all in Australia (I am not). This is how bad things are:
Earlier this week my elderly mother had to have an urgent eye operation. Since my even more elderly father was the only one who could drive her to the hospital (family members are not allowed to see each other if not in the same household) both had to have a covid test 3 days prior. Both were negative.
On the day, my father drove the 90 minutes to the hospital for a 9am appointment. Only my mother was permitted into the hospital (which she reported was dead inside…not the usual “lively” hospital she was used to). She was then left to wait for 3 HOURS in a room by herself with no entertainment of any kind. Nurses occasionally came in to check on her and do a bit of pre-op prep. But it didn’t need 3 hours.
Meanwhile, outside, the temperature was 7 degrees C/44 Fahrenheit. Extremely cold for their part of Aus. My father was sitting the car waiting. He didn’t want to drive all the way home since at that point they didn’t realize it was going to take so long. As time dragged on, Mum told the nursing staff that he was outside in the car, it was freezing cold and could he come inside where it was warm. They wouldn’t allow him in. Despite a negative covid test.
My father is in his 80’s and suffers from COPD. Every winter he makes it through is a blessing. And THIS is how the medical establishment treats the elderly because of their irrational fear of this virus. In the end he was sitting in a freezing cold car for 6 HOURS.
I am BEYOND angry. There will come a day when all of these people learn that they were on the WRONG side of history. Their fear and obsession has destroyed so many lives around the world. Shame on them.
Stay out of hospitals if at all possible. They have crossed the rubicon and nobody is allowed to accompany you into that lion’s den. Your mother is lucky she didn’t wind up on a respirator just because they were having a slow day.

I am relieved to hear that your wife at least got the treatment she needed. I waited four months for a lumpectomy at the beginning of the plandemic, and would have waited six had I not pushed my way into an earlier consult with films in hand.

My family are in NSW. And I do know that this isn’t unusual – the same inhumane treatment has been dished out around the world. What I find stunning in its hypocrisy is that all these measures are in place to supposedly “protect” the vulnerable – who are mainly the elderly. Yet, they leave a vulnerable elderly person in freezing conditions for 6 hours. At a HOSPITAL.
The medical profession at large seems to have jettisoned its oath of “first do no harm”. The harm they’re doing is IMMENSE.
I call it the Medical Industry, but this really has not been anything new, I’ve worked extensively in both the US & Australia in the Medical field.
It is my observation that during the Covid Debacle, the Medical industry here in the US was incentivized to diagnose & treat people based on what they could get out of the Government. Remember the $39K for patients on a Vent, $11K for a Covid DX, etc, etc .
My 90 y/o MiL fractured her femur, they operated on her & then discharged her the next day, but before they sent her home they stuck her on a Vent for 2 hours. $39k thank you very much. Another time, she was being discharged after a fall & the night before, they did an emergency tracheotomy on her. They insisted that she had a large growth in her throat – it was a lump of mucus. It took 6 months for her to get back to eating even icecream. This was in Massachusetts – worst hospitals in the country, I reckon. At the same time in early 2020, my 75 BiL had closed heart surgery to replace 2 Valves – they leaked after the surgery & clots formed in his heart, his lungs & down his arm – he ended up being in hospital for 14 weeks + 3 weeks of Rehabilitation – he almost died.
At the same time in QLD, my sister who was 58 was misdiagnosed as FTLD – she really had MND, but she did not get the care that she needed, because he husband was so petrified of the Covid, that he didn’t want to take her to a Regional Hospital for some tests that she needed. She ended up dying of a Cardiac Arrest, because she was so stressed from her disease & not knowing fully what was going on.
I blame the lunatic husband for that though.
I stay away from the Medical Industry if I can help it, but I did get Covid last week & got pretty sick I’m Asthmatic, so I went off to a Monoclonel Antibody Clinic & got the 4 shots, then I followed up with a TelMed to get Azithromycin & Prednisone.
I hope your Dad did not have any residual effects from his trauma – a lot of our older Aussies tend to be pretty tough & stoic, but I’m sure he wasn’t prepared for that.
I think back to the days when I was a 17 y/o Student Nurse in a Regional town in QLD, when our very reason to exist, was to take care of our patients to the best of our ability – I don’t know what happened & where it all went so wrong. I think in the mid 80s when things became more focused on money.
We lived in NY State when all that Cuomo Covid stuff was going on – we left in January, 21- I told my husband that we needed to get out of there, before Cuomo put me in a Nursing Home & had me killed off – now in Florida.
