Appreciation and respect for our military service-members are at the cornerstone of the Treehouse. Every day for over ten years we begin our daily prayers with our fallen national heroes in mind. Through the years we have also lost veteran members who are part of the Treehouse family. We have cried together, held time together and sometimes just quietly sat beside each-other to eliminate the loneliness…. No words needed.
However, we would also like the opportunity to share our appreciation this special weekend; and we want our veteran Treepers to know just how much they are valued and cherished.
Before we enter a day of solemn thoughtfulness and reflection, I would like to ask all military Treepers to stand and be recognized so that we may say “Thank You” this Memorial Day. If you, or a member of your family past or present, is a member of the veteran community, or if you have lost someone close who was a veteran, please share a brief hello.

Deployment to shithole Iraq for my USMC LCpl son. He said out of 2004 high school that he wanted to go kill Osama. Yeah. Maybe we did kill Osama but I’ve never seen a pic of the dead Osama. And oBowa had Osama buried at sea with Muslim service. On a USN ship. I suppose that was part of America’s fundamental transformation?

There is no greater love than one who gives their lives for another. I pray for those I knew personally and for all the millions that believed in something greater than themselves. They are in the bosom of God.
I thank father, who served in Navy during Korean Conflict. He went to school at Ball High in Galveston, and the other half of his HS class signed up as Marines, where most of them did not come back. Also thanks to my granduncle Bill who was an MP under Patton, and Uncle George who served in WW2 as well.
Among others, at times, but every Memorial Day I think back to the one time I heard my dad talk about war. I’ll remember his mention of Cpl White, who died right beside him on Guadalcanal (along with 16,000 other Americans). And Pat Tillman, who gave up his career in the NFL after 9-11, only to die in Afghanistan.
In our family, my wife and I can count (dad, brothers, sisters, uncles, nephews) over 125 years of military service. And that’s not even counting my five years in the Army. None of them died in combat, but I shed tears every Memorial Day for those who have.

Spent many years in the Army National Guard before going back on Active Duty
I left the Army after a Recruiting stint where I discovered the sordid political underbelly at an Administrative level. My former unit was being deployed during Desert Storm and my Commanding Officer refused my transfer back to that unit saying my Recruiting Duty was a “Critical Skill” during times of conflict

I can count family members who have served and died for this country and her people back to the American revolution.

This Vietnam Vet, salutes the many brothers in arms I served with in that foreign land, so many years ago. And who never came back to live full lives. I will never forget you, my brothers.
We remember the aircrew of Independence 08, crashed outside Kandahar 27 April 2013.

Raised in the Bronx by German immigrants (WWI vet and his German bride), my Dad joined the Army Air Corp at 17 just in time to become a Pearl Harbor survivor. He is a WWII, Korea, Phillipines and Vietnam Vet. When he left for Vietnam, he told my 5 young brothers and I he was “going so you don’t have to.” He retired from the Air Force after 30 years of service. When the Gulf War came around, he went to Ft. Sam to volunteer as a civilian. They told him he was too old, that he’s done enough and thanked him for his service. They gave him three small starred banners to display in his window to symbolize his 3 sons stationed in Bahrain (Navy), Iraq (Air Force) and Belgium (Army/NATO). His fourth son had served his 4 years in the Army and was raising his three sons in Germany. My fifth brother, the only liberal in the family is a near genius patholgist in Florida. Dad passed away in 1994, still married to his war bride from Frankfurt Germany. Just one man of many in the Greatest Generation leaving a Patriot’s legacy to eleven grandsons, three granddaughters, four great grandsons and two great granddaughters with a grandson just now returning from his second deployment to Iraq to see his newborn son. Story goes Dad’s great, great (not sure how many greats) grandpa came to America to escape Napolean’s draft and our family has been making up for him ever since. Not only do we have a whole slew of MAGA voters except you know who, my Dad was a huge fan of Donald Trump a fellow New Yorker. In the early 80’s he commented that Trump needed to switch parties and run for President. I know he was smiling down at us when that happened.
Sure, it’s sad. But what’s really is sad is that the end result of all these sacrifices has been the almost total destruction of the nation they thought they were defending.
“Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice….”
The last “just war” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just_war_theory#Christian_views) fought by the U.S. military was in 1812 (and even that one was suspicious). Every U.S. war since then has been either aggressive, in search of territory and treasure, or fought on behalf of foreign forces and nations which were (and are) actually hostile to America’s well-being. That’s the real tragedy.
My father served in the US Navy in WWII as did his brother in the Marines. Both were present at Okinawa not knowing each other were there until much later. Both witnessed things that broke something inside yet they came home raised loving children and kept the pain inside…until many years later as old men could finally unburden their souls before they passed. Every memorial Day I thank God for their service in combat and maybe the tougher service as fathers, brothers and sons the many years later while carrying the burdens experienced as youthful men. They were not special to their contemporaries but they are true heroes to their families and loved ones. The only way we can honor their sacrifices is by keeping the torch of freedom held high to shine the light of truth and justice far and wide. God Bless America!
Although I didn’t serve in the military, pretty much every male in my family has, going back at least three generations. My two sons served in the Air Force and Marine Corps following 9/11.
Dad was a WW2 Navy vet. Son is currently serving in the Army. God bless them both.
I’m a little hesitant to post here but out of remembrance of my 2 brothers both Marines and the reason that I became a Marine and my dad Coast Guard in WWll and those who died on that fateful day, May 12th 1975, and all others who died through these 200 years for our freedoms, I’ll send this out into the web as a remembrance.
Bow your head and say a little prayer for those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom. Then say a little prayer for those who survived and came home with that 1 burning question. Why me Lord, why did you let me live?

MEMORIAL DAY SALUTE TO FAMILY

Much older 1st Cousin died in Bataan Death March. Many military veterans, back to The Civil War, in our family. Another much older 1st Cousin given a medal for Valor during WWII for throwing a grenade into a nest of enemy machine-gunners. Living immediate family member was Sergeant in 101st Airborne in Vietnam. Now fighting cancer due to Agent Orange exposure while there. That war has not yet ended for many!
While I know, intimately, what the Vietnam Veteran feels, I also know how much the others would be appalled, angered, and saddened at the state of our country today!
I salute them all!

I have many aunts and uncles who served. One Grandfather, and on up the ladder going way, way back in the USA. Instead of sharing them, I am going to share another set of Patriots, who I am certain would be, may be, CTH followers. Who knows?
