We need to end the psychological and biological torture that is Daylight Savings Time. It will be light outside until nearly 8pm. In the summer this stretches to 9pm?
I would like it better if it just stayed one way or the other. But if we have to change it, how about moving it 1/2 hour instead of a whole hour? That way the people who like to get up early have that morning light and all the night owls who want it light in the evening get a little also. I’ve been a night owl and an early bird at different stages of my life, so I do understand both sides.
Still one good thing about DST starting is that it means spring and summer are coming and we will have longer periods of light! And that is wonderful!
In the northern hemisphere, average days in winter have only about 8 or 9 hours of sunlight. In the summer it is 14 or 15 hours per day. Plants start growing when the days lengthen to about 11 hours of sun.
I am not a fan of DST, I think they need to leave it where the kids don’t go to school in the dark and don’t change it, but we can’t blame DST for longer days.

Daylight Savings Time is more useless than t-ts on a boar hog.
Every year some politicians puff out their chest about getting rid of or permanently moving to day light savings time. Nothing ever comes of it. Personally I hate it, and wish it was just standard time all year long.
“I’m in a hurry to get things done…I rush and rush til life’s no fun” “ All we really got to do is live and die…but I’m in a hurry and don’t know why”. Southern wisdom for all you Yankees out there.

There is no better illustration of onerous government overreach than the stupid anachronism of semiannual time change. Not since the general population governed its daily routine by the position of the Sun in the heavens, has this twice yearly experiment in sleep deprivation been necessitated nor welcomed.
…and the first one that says “But, it helps the farmers!” gets a punch, right in the face.
The only reason government does it is, because it can! Forward or back…pick a time and be done with it!
But…..Hope springs eternal:
”In the U.S., a similar move to break the much-despised clock-changing habit has been advanced by a bipartisan group of senators, whose “Sunshine Protection Act of 2021” would make year-round DST the law of the land. State-level measures along those lines have passed in California, Florida and many other states. The arguments for abolishing the practice, which emerged in the early 20th century as a means of saving energy by shifting working hours to follow the sun, are many and varied: The disruptive effects of the twice-a-year time change have been linked to higher rates of car crashes, workplace injuries, street crime, heart attacks and general crankiness. “
I read somewhere that it was the schedules of the transcontinental railroad that began to standardize timekeeping across America. Before the railroad (so the article said) every little town and village kept their own time. I reckon precise timekeeping must not have been so important when travel by foot, waterway, wagon and horseback were the only modes of transport. Simpler times…

I had a conversation with an old Amish guy about time and sunlight. I asked him how long his work day was and he said from daylight to dark. God would bless him with just enough time to do what needed to be done. I said that the days were longer in the summer. He said that of course they are. God knows we have more to do when the weather is warm.
I have thought about that simple logic from time to time. A work schedule that honors the sovereignty of God is a concept that ties our providence to the creation. I can’t fault that. It is a basic life, but one that always has God at the center of everything.
Those who’ve gone to ‘connected’ likely don’t have to spring forward, atomic clocks and the internet do it for them.
I’m decidedly not connected in the time sense so set the household clocks ahead last night before going to bed, the oldest a ‘Telechron’ from the 1930’s. Still keeps perfect time after over 90 years. Thieves got the family’s old mechanical chime clocks awhile back but overlooked the electric clocks.
I wish they’d have left DST alone like it was decades ago or do away with it altogether. I remember as a kid getting up at 4am to throw the paper and the sun being up at 5am before DST hit. That doesn’t happen anymore, they switch earlier now and, where I live in the PNW it’s still light at nearly 10pm in the summertime on DST. Oh, well.
I believe AZ operates on Standard Time year round. Nice.
Another reason to like Az as if i need one more (oh they do have a wretched slimeball governor but maybe theyll correct that).

Now that I am retired, I just don’t give a damn what time it is, most of the time. 🙂

There is finally some hope there will be action by Congress to end this madness. A bipartisan group of eight U.S. senators have introduced the “Sunshine Protection Act of 2021.” This legislation will end the twice-yearly clock-changing practices and make DST permanent.
Thanks!

I would personally like staying on REAL time, but I like your compromise.
Death statistics actually go up when we lose an hour, and go down when we gain an hour. It is literally killing people, stop the madness!
I love it!

I find moving forward immensely useful. We should leave it like that all year!
Instead of one hour, how about moving forward to 2024 and trying for a -clean- Election?
At least you have one less hour of Obama’s ventriloquist dummy “Robinette”
WTF America.
Yes! My favorite time of the year! No more coming home after work in the dark! Bring on the summer!
Recall that voters in Florida nullified daylight savings time.
How’d that work out?
Every year some politicians puff out their chest about getting rid of or permanently moving to day light savings time. Nothing ever comes of it. Personally I hate it, and wish it was just standard time all year long.
We don’t have Daylight Savings Time in Arizona and its great. Also, nice to be independent-minded.
Most of Arizona doesn’t do a time change, they seem to really like it.

Good frigging Morning!
Most farmers that I know rise before the sun.
Humans can fool with their clocks all they want but the animals are governed by the sun.
As are the crops in the field.
