Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Everybody’s a Somebody in the Body of Christ
By Pastor Kevin Sadler
This article is an excerpt from the booklet Everybody’s a Somebody in the Body of Christ, by Pastor Kevin Sadler, based on episode 6 of the TV series, Transformed by Grace.
“For the body is not one member, but many. If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased Him. And if they were all one member, where were the body?” (1 Cor. 12:14-19).
These verses in 1 Corinthians 12 teach that each and every member of the Body of Christ is vitally important. Nobody’s a nobody. Everybody’s a somebody. Each has an essential role.
Many of the Corinthian believers were not happy with their gifts, and many in the church wanted a gift that someone else had. Paul says “the Body is not one member.” That is, we simply cannot all hold the same position in the Body. God has graced different people with different abilities, and God in His wisdom and sovereignty has placed each of us in the Body where we will be the most useful for Him: “God set the members…as it hath pleased Him” (v. 18).
The “honourable” / “less honourable” and “comely” / “uncomely” members (v. 23) that Paul refers to is from man’s point of view (“which seem,” v. 22; “which we think,” v. 23). From God’s vantage point, all members of the Body of Christ are important and necessary.
“Sir Michael Costa, the celebrated conductor, was holding a rehearsal. As the mighty chorus rang out, accompanied by scores of instruments, the piccolo player — a little pint-sized flute—thinking perhaps that his contribution would not be missed amid so much music, stopped playing.
“Suddenly, the great leader stopped and cried out, ‘Where is the piccolo?’
“The sound of that one small instrument was necessary to the harmony, and the master conductor missed it when it dropped out. The point? To the conductor, there are no insignificant instruments in an orchestra. Sometimes the smallest and seemingly least important one can make the greatest contribution. Even if it doesn’t seem to make that big a difference to the audience at large, the conductor knows it right away!
“In the church, the players and the instruments are diverse — different sizes, different shapes, different notes, different roles to play. Like the piccolo player in Sir Michael’s orchestra, we often in our own sovereignty decide that our contribution is not significant. Our contribution couldn’t possibly make a difference, so we quit playing, stop doing that which we’ve been given to do. We drop out, but the Conductor immediately notices. From our perspective, our contribution may be small; but from His, it is crucial.
“I just have to believe I’m talking to some piccolo players who have dropped out of the orchestra for whatever reasons: pain, exhaustion, insecurity, criticism, laziness, misbehavior. Convinced that your contribution doesn’t mean a hill of beans in the bigger scheme of things, you have buried your talent in the ground.”1
That’s what Paul says in verses 15,16; to paraphrase, “Should the foot complain that he is only a foot and not a hand, or the ear that he is not the eye?” That is, the foot is a part of the body, the ear is a part of the body, and they’re both needed. For a body to be a body, it must have different parts and diverse members. Similarly, as members of the Body of Christ, we have particular functions to perform. Our purpose in life should be to perform our separate functions as well as we possibly can, and in His strength for the glory of God.
God does not want us to envy other people’s gifts and positions in the Body of Christ, and He also does not want us to judge others who may have a different gift. Some are prayer warriors, some are evangelists, some are teachers, some are pastors, some give, some rule, some show mercy and compassion, some minister by caring for the poor, providing for the sick, or watching over the local church. We’re not all eyes, nor hands, nor feet, and we’re not all ears.
If we were all the one same part of the Body, like the eye, Paul says in verse 17, then how would we hear, and if we were all an ear, how would we smell? In other words, if we all had the same position in the Body, how would the Body work? How would we minister? It would not even be a Body as verse 19 shows. The diversity in the Body allows Christ’s Church to reach more people, to help more people, to minister to more people. The Church is most effective with its members faithfully performing the different ministries to which God has called them.

1 Corinthians 12:14 For the body is not one member, but many.
15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
19 And if they were all one member, where were the body?
1 Corinthains 12:20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.
21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.
22 Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:
23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.
Sundance always opens this forum at about the same time I start settling in for a music search. I’ve always enjoyed working at night. I like the solitude and the imaginary feeling that you might be the only person in the universe . . . My father was always an early riser. He was sometimes getting up at about the same time I was going to bed. I came to understand that he loved the early morning hours for the exact same reason that I loved the late-at-night hours. Like father, like son. With all that’s happened, I can’t help feeling a certain melancholia at the moment. And when that happens I tend to look for music that provides a few moments of solace. Here’s a couple of special favorites I’d like to share . . .
dang i may be a day late, but not a dollar short 😛 sorry!

I agree Dan. No one has alarmed me more than fellow members of my former parish during this past year, and also the extended Church. Some are waking up now only to realize the let the ship sink.
Matthew Henry Commentary from Blue Letter Bible
Hebrews 12
excerpt:
2. When God speaks to men in the most excellent manner, the guilt of those who refuse him is the greater, and their punishment will be more unavoidable and intolerable; there is no escaping, no bearing it, (v. 25). The different manner of God’s dealing with men under the gospel, in a way of grace, assures us that he will deal with the despisers of the gospel after a different manner than he does with other men, in a way of judgment. The glory of the gospel, which should greatly recommend it to our regard, appears in these three things:
(1.) It was by the sound of the gospel trumpet that the former dispensation and state of the church of God were shaken and removed; and shall we despise that voice of God that pulled down a church and state of so long standing and of God’s own building?
(2.) It was by the sound of the gospel trumpet that a new kingdom was erected for God in the world, which can never be so shaken as to be removed. This was a change made once for all; no other change shall take place till time shall be no more. We have now received a kingdom that cannot be moved, shall never be removed, never give way to any new dispensation. The canon of scripture is now perfected, the Spirit of prophecy has ceased, the mystery of God is finished, he has put his last hand to it. The gospel church may be made more large, more prosperous more purified from contracted pollution, but it shall never be altered for another dispensation; those who perish under the gospel perish without remedy. And hence the apostle justly concludes,
[1.] How necessary it is for us to obtain grace from God, to serve him acceptably: if we be not accepted of God under this dispensation, we shall never be accepted at all; and we lose all our labour in religion if we be not accepted of God.
[2.] We cannot worship God acceptably, unless we worship him with godly reverence and fear. As faith, so holy fear, is necessary to acceptable worship.
[3.] It is only the grace of God that enables us to worship God in a right manner: nature cannot come up to it; it can produce neither that precious faith nor that holy fear that is necessary to acceptable worship.
[4.] God is the same just and righteous God under the gospel that he appeared to be under the law. Though he be our God in Christ, and now deals with us in a more kind and gracious way, yet he is in himself a consuming fire; that is, a God of strict justice, who will avenge himself on all the despisers of his grace, and upon all apostates. Under the gospel, the justice of God is displayed in a more awful manner, though not in so sensible a manner as under the law; for here we behold divine justice seizing upon the Lord Jesus Christ, and making him a propitiatory sacrifice, his soul and body an offering for sin, which is a display of justice far beyond what was seen and heard on mount Sinai when the law was given.

Fantastic article. MH is such a rich resource for us. I try to have MH commentary open when I’m tackling any serious Bible reading or study.
Perhaps it will take some truly hard times to shake the church into alertness.
CTH and the people that frequent the site are so rich in vocabulary, wisdom, and thought. God always preserves a remnant who have not bowed the knee to Baal or whoever else it may be that has become the pagan idol. Always nice to be in good company.
God bless to all.

Sometimes you get the dog and sometimes the dog get’s you. A few months ago, as I turned the corner onto my street I saw an old brown colored dog circling aimlessly in the street. He was obviously lost, old, and confused. There was another car on the street that had turned its emergency blinkers on and a couple of other neighborhood folks were there. He didn’t have tags and we hadn’t seen him before. But it was obvious that he was someone’s dog who had gotten lost. My house was closest so I took him home, gave him some water and a little food and put him on our enclosed front porch. I was getting ready to put up some “found dog”posters. Turns out one of the women who was there had put in photo on the neighborhood blog site. Within literally minutes someone had notified the dog’s owner who didn’t know her dog was out. We all celebrated one of those small epiphanies where good intentions and love of animals combine with social media technology to bring a old and lost dog back to his person.
. . . but deliver us from the Evil One.
“The most striking proof that there is a devil in the world is that men do not feel, or feel very little (though some endeavor to do so), the mercies that God has bestowed upon them in the creation, guidance, and redemption: the Devil us a powerful antagonist to everything good and righteous.”

Just checking in. We’re still in California and hit a few pot holes but still alive and kicking. I still hang out on my branch and read when I get a chance.
Life Below Zero
Watched an awful lot of TV while recovering. I enjoyed watching the day to day travails of those living out in the Bush in Alaska. People living above or near the Arctic Circle.
They live a life of subsistence primarily. Hunting, Fishing, and Gathering. For some their only income comes from the pelts of Wolfs, Lynx, Beaver, Muskrat, and Bear. They live on Caribou, Elk, Moose meat and fish.
One is a family with a man married to a native and they live part of the year in a small community and the rest of the year in a Teepee type tent. This have a large family. They are the only ones featured that also take seals. Since the wife is a native she can hunt out of season and take game the husband can’t. They have a large family and the wife and husband teach the kids how to subsist. Their only source of income apparently are the hides and the pieces of clothing they make from them and sell. They also barter with the meat and fish they harvest. Pretty much everyday that weather allows they are hunting or fishing or trapping.
One guy lives without refrigeration or power tools or power transport. He doesn’t even have a dog. All the rest featured in the show use snowmobiles, ATVs, etc. All of them gather water from streams or rivers
Another is a young man who during the spring and summer is a hunting guide. During his off season he lives in his cabin which doe have a solar power charging a battery bank with a small generator as back up. As with most, the others his sole source of heat is wood that he cuts, splits, and burns in a wood stove. Dead standing Spruce is the primary wood they use for fuel. They find dead spruce trees, which are the most common trees up there, and cut them down because they are cured and ready to burn. In some cases they “girdle” the trees so they will die and then leave them standing for a few years until they are cured and ready to be cut down and used for firewood. Those trees are also the primary source of the building material for their cabins and other structures.
There is a husband and wife that live on the Yukon river. They have the nicest cabin of them all. He and his wife make their money teaching people how to run dog teams. He of course is an expert musher. He is also a skilled mechanic and builder having his own compound with a workshop. They love their dogs. The dogs are fed mostly with dried fish and seem to thrive on that diet. Much of his summer is spent getting fish to feed the dogs. The fish is hung in a structure with a roof but no walls except those necessary at ground level to keep scavengers out, or at least slow them down. He has literally 1,000s of pounds of dried fish hanging in racks in that thing by the fall. Unlike the rest, they grow most of their own vegetables using a green house. They also use wood for heat but also use solar and a generator. Heck he makes his own beer and has built himself a sauna that they both enjoy. It is funny to hear them say it’s hot when the temperature gets up to 50 F in the spring.
It is quite amazing to see those wonderful dogs. It is so obvious that they live for pulling the sled. And when they’re in the harness they are some happy pooches.
And then there is Sue. Sue is a “fiftyish fat chick” in her own words. She was running an airstrip with a lodging compound well over 100 mi north of the Arctic circle in the tundra country. Then she bought the place. Unlike the others she lives in a Quonset hut shaped fabric structure. The lodging for guests are prefabricated huts. She has a whole compound to take care of including large generator. Her heat comes from fuel, There are no trees where she is. She is my favorite because she is quite a character and has a way with words. And besides, she is tough as nails, doing something that most men wouldn’t do. She survived a Grizzly attack, And another time had a Grizzly come right through the wall of her tent right at her the point where her bed was. She sleeps with a sidearm within reach.
Her airstrip is a way point and refueling point for bush pilots and others going back and forth from point north. Everything has to be flown in to her but she hunts and fishes to minimize her food expense.
I suspect that some people, will make the judgment that people living like that in the raw are hiding or running from something. I don’t think so. I can see the attraction of living the way they do. A simple, hard, isolated, life of self reliance. But also pretty darn healthy life where you know what is or isn’t in the food you eat. One has to be at peace with themselves to live such a life.
In every case they, unlike us, understand that they are not at the top of the food chain. There is the real potential for any of them to end up wolf or bear poop.
Jeremiah Johnson came out when I was a young teen. I became interested in mountain men and spent years reading their real stories. I think this interest came about because I’d read the book my grandfather wrote for our family about his life on the plains of Kansas. He was born in 1881, and much of the book deals with family history, crossing the plains in a wagon, his father immigrating and walking hundreds of miles for summer work, etc.
Anyhow, I have always loved the stories of people who carve out a place for themselves outside civilization.
Muskrat pelts bring from $5 to $10 each. Red Fox pelts bring from $40 to $60 each. Lynx pelts bring from $100 to $200 each. A Wolverine pelt can go for as much a $500 Wolf pelts can go for up to $1,500 each. I did not hear how much Beaver, Black bear, Brown bear, Polar Bear pelts or seal skin are worth.
The natives figured out long ago what particular kind of fur or skin is best used for. For example Wolverine makes the warmest hats. Muskrat are used for Mukluks and a well made pair is worth a lot.
The family that hunts seals also scavenges the shore for whale bones and do scrimshaw on the bones and baleen that the sale to get cash.
None of those people, except the tour guide of course, ever look for trophy kills. The selection of what large game they harvest, when they have a choice, is based on the amount and quality of meat. For example after the rut during the dead of the winter or spring the meat of Bull moose or Elk is not as desirable as that of the cows due to effect of hormones and the loss of weight resulting form the stress. Of course all but the natives t have to adhere to the hunting seasons for each species.
On occasion the Alaska DNR restricts or prohibits the taking of certain species of salmon if their numbers are too low during their run. This means those fishing can’t use nets because it illegal to take that species in any way shape for form. This can be a particular hardship on those that have sled dogs and rely on fish for to feed them because dog food for so many animals is of course expensive. A lot of mushers that race rely on those fish to feed their teams.
Do Democrat pelts have any value?
AMERICA FIRST …………… before we lose it.

Enjoyed this. You done good, ole’ dude! 🙂
You know, those people are living a life with more freedom in many ways than we have. They are still slaves to doing the things that must be done for their survival, but the schedule they do things nn is governed primarily by nature. IOW they generally have much more latitude in determining what they are going to do, when they are going to do it, and how they do it.
They are people that have felt so confined living in civilization that they have gone out and found another way to live.
Rah, you are describing my backyard, and the culture I lived in for a decade, out in the Bush working as a health care provider to the Yu’pik Eskimo people. Truly an amazing experience. I wrote a lot about it on my blog Tundra Medicine Dreams (www.tundramedicinedreams.blogspot.com) I am still in Alaska, but now on the road system where life is a bit more “civilized”. Part of my job was to travel to the tiny villages on the Yukon and Kuskokwim Rivers, experiences that created lifetime memories. And I was a dog musher for most of that time, and still love everything about the sport. I haven’t seen the tv show you mention; sounds like something I would enjoy. Thanks.
I have noticed that many Natives that move into Fairbanks or Anchorage end up pitiful alcoholics. Very similar to what happens on many reservations here in the lower 48. It is a real shame.
I was wondering if alcoholism is such a problem for those that remain in the bush living their traditional life style.
Most villages are dry in AK. Alcohol is just as big a problem there as our reservations in lower 48.
Had a coworker years ago in NYC who loved to research. He had a history of alcoholism and was following a soecific protocol designed by a nurse to treat alcoholism. I dont recall her name, only that B vitamins were part of the program.
City life can be unhealthy for a lot of people. It isn’t just the city…indoor jobs, sketchy food and hostile company can take a toll
This is what happens when social institutions break down. Modernity will sometimes do that. Sad.
Alcoholism and drug addiction are rampant in all the villages and in the hub town of Bethel. Doesn’t matter that most villages are dry. Bethel is now wet, which makes it easier for booze to get to the villages. And there are plenty of bootleggers making home brew. Crack, meth, heroin–anything you can get in Anchorage, you can get in the Bush. It is sad. In the villages, huffing gasoline is a tremendous problem. Especially among the young kids 5-15 years old. I wrote about it here:
https://tundramedicinedreams.blogspot.com/2006/09/huffing_03.html

THE DETERMINATION TO SERVE
“The Son of Man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister.” Matthew xx. 28
Paul’s idea of service is the same as Our Lord’s: “I am among you as He that serveth;” “ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.” We have the idea that a man called to the ministry is called to be a different kind of being from other men. According to Jesus Christ, he is called to be the “doormat” of other men; their spiritual leader, but never their superior. “I know how to be abased,” says Paul. This is Paul’s idea of service – “I will spend myself to the last ebb for you; you may give me praise or give me blame, it will make no difference.” So long as there is a human being who does not know Jesus Christ, I am his debtor to serve him until he does. The mainspring of Paul’s service is not love for men, but love for Jesus Christ. If we are devoted to the cause of humanity, we shall soon be crushed and broken-hearted, for we shall often meet with more ingratitude from men than we would from a dog; but if our motive is love to God, no ingratitude can hinder us from serving our fellow men.
Paul’s realization of how Jesus Christ had dealt with him is the secret of his determination to serve others. “I was before a perjurer, a blasphemer, an injurious person” – no matter how men may treat me, they will never treat me with the spite and hatred with which I treated Jesus Christ. When we realize that Jesus Christ has served us to the end of our meanness, our selfishness, and sin, nothing that we meet with from others can exhaust our determination to serve men for His sake.

Scenes Beyond the Grave – Marietta Davis
Chapter XII – The City Viewed from a Superior Plain
12:4
Having thus beheld the City in its glory, usefulness and magnificence, my vision expanded, and beyond the extreme circle of palaces, I saw more perfectly, what I had seen before while in the City, multitudes of angels gathering around, in readiness to enter the outer temples at the appointed period. I saw that each class was congregating according to the class or school to which the infants they had with them were best adapted.
These angels approached as on wings of wind, and around them, enrobing them, was a bright cloud, which made them appear to me as if clothed with the sun. In their arms, as before stated, were infant spirits whose existence appeared to depend upon their care.
As they drew very near, each would pause a moment, poising in the holy and serene atmosphere, and then inclining to an appropriate position would rest.
This most glorious view in its delightful unfoldings was now somewhat changed, and my guide addressed me, saying, “Marietta, behold the order and glorious wonders of the first and most simple degree of a spiritual paradise. These angels thou hast seen in their employment, are ever engaged in this delightful duty. Here, as had been taught thee, infants assemble from the world whence we are; and from this blessed realm they are conducted to other and higher schools of instruction: but before thou art permitted to advance, a solemn and instructive lesson shall be given thee.”
To be continued…

Update:
Tomorrow comes the moment of truth. I go to the doctor to see if I can get a release to go back to work.
As of 8 Feb. I was officially no longer employed because that is the way my former employer has to work it because of insurance. However, as long as I go back and reapply within a month of my termination I will get back my job and my seniority.
Even if the doc does clear me I will wait a week before going back to work. I still have a little discomfort when sitting for long periods. I also have some discomfort only the line of incision at times. Urgency and retention have improved quite a bit but frequency is still a bit of a problem. But all have gradually improving.
The melt. Though we have a spot with exposed ground we still have a minimum of 3″ of snow cover over the vast majority of the ground here around my place in Central Indiana. Despite several days of clear skies and bright sun with temps in the 40s it seem the snow is melting as much from the bottom as from the top. The ground was not really frozen here when the ice and snow capped it and provided an insulating blanket that protected it from coldest temps when they came.
Meanwhile the melt in town is much more extensive. My sisters lawn is now completely exposed. That is a function of the urban heat island effect where it is generally 3 to 5 degrees warmer in town than it is in rural areas.

Fact: What is now Washington DC sits on what was a malarial swamp. Land that nobody wanted or had a use for.
What is now Washington DC sits on what was a malarial swamp. Land that nobody wanted or had a use for.
Well that explains a lot. Bad ground leads to contamination and corruption, spiritually as well as physically.
The first few years after it was established it was practically abandoned during the summer because nobody wanted to stay there. Legislative sessions were held during the cooler months.
But if they insist it is Indian land then I would ask. Then why don’t you just give it back to them? I mean what’s your point if your not going to act upon it?
These people are all crazy! Garland has no business being appointed to DOJ, the nominee to be the head Medical guy claims to be a girl, now the proposed Interior nominee – will she want to give DC back to one of the tribes – and then the battle will begin as to what tribe will claim the land as theirs?
Years ago Harry Reid tried to give a large swath of land to a tribe, they didn’t want it because it was in such a remote location they could not get the tourist attraction for their real want, which was to build a casino. But what happened during that time is within the tribe jockeying for power began and the fight began to remove members from their tribe saying they weren’t ‘really’ from their tribe but from some off branch.
It got pretty ugly and fortunately for those who held private property within the area Reid wanted to give away, we collectively held our breath as all refused to sell their holdings to the government which thankfully stopped the entire program in its tracks.
The last I heard, the tribal members are still not on speaking terms with each other.

“In Roman politics, citizens lost control of politicians after they elected them. It’s one of the system’s greatest weaknesses and it is no wonder that, like our Roman forebears, we regard government as our biggest problem: we cannot compel them to keep their promises.
Imagine that, instead of hiring eloquent amateurs, we hired professionals–sociologists, statisticians, political scientists, economists–and told them to create solutions to our problems identified by publicly conducted surveys. Then they should support state and local governments to implement policy solutions, track public satisfaction with them for a few years and discard failed policies. California would probably try Canadian medicare and if their medical bills fell fifty percent and Californians showed a three year gain in healthy life expectancy, we’d elect a thousand volunteers and send them–all expenses paid–to Washington so they could audit the results and pass legislation.
That’s what China does and it’s why their democracy resembles Proctor & Gamble more than Pericles of Athens.”
Longish piece, half an hour on the reader. Fascinating glimpse into how their system functions…
This – THIS is a good bit of what projects like the Keystone pipeline would avoid. Think you’re going to see this on the msm tonight?? Hah.

Here’s the service from the small church I attend for the first Sunday in Lent. The message is a short sermon from Martin Luther on the temptations of Christ (Mark 9: 1-15), read by one of our deacons. Perhaps you will find the service refreshing in this difficult time. For the words for the lessons and hymns, scroll down from the control bar for the audiocast.

Ohhh, he says it perfectly! ?
Brits have a way with words that Yanks just can’t match generally. Take Nigel Farage for example. Winston Churchill and so many more.
lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and his family as they seek to lead America back to You. Also, we pray for Angels to protect and support our Sundance as he works for justice and peace.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
Amen
Amen.
Amen.
Amen.
