Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Our Great Commission
By Pastor Cornelius R. Stam
Much is said of the “great commission” which our Lord gave to His apostles just before His ascension. We wonder whether our readers have ever examined the various records of this commission carefully.
This “great commission” does not say one word about “the preaching of the cross” or “the gospel of the grace of God”. The “gospel” which they were sent to preach was very evidently the same “gospel” they had been preaching — the Gospel of the Kingdom — only they could now declare, as Peter did at Pentecost, that the King had risen from the dead and would still some day occupy the throne of David.
The “great commission” demanded faith and baptism for the remission of sins (Mark 16:15,16); it included the power to heal the sick and work miracles (16:17,18), but it did not include the glad message that “Christ died for our sins” (ICor.15:1-3). At Pentecost, when Peter began to carry out this commission, he rather blamed his hearers for the death of Christ and when, convicted of their sins, they asked: “What shall we do?” he did notsay: “Believe on Christ who died for your sins.” He rather commanded them to “repent and be baptized every one…for the remission of sins” (Acts 2:38).
But after Christ and His Kingdom were again rejected, God interrupted the prophetic program and sent Paul forth to proclaim “the preaching of the cross” and “the gospel of the grace of God”. In II Corinthians 5: 14-21 this apostle proclaims “the love of Christ” who “died for all” and instructs us as to our“great commission”:
“And all things are of [provided by] God, who hath reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ, AND HATH GIVEN TO US THE MINISTRY OF RECONCILIATION;
“To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself… AND HATH COMMITTED UNTO US THE WORD OF RECONCILIATION” (II Cor.5:18,19).

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
1Corinthians 15:1 ¶ Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
2Corinthians 5:14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:
15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.
16 ¶ Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Found in the bin…. 🙁
“The “great commission” demanded faith and baptism for the remission of sins (Mark 16:15,16); it included the power to heal the sick and work miracles (16:17,18), but it did not include the glad message that “Christ died for our sins” (ICor.15:1-3).” At Pentecost, when Peter began to carry out this commission, he rather blamed his hearers for the death of Christ and when, convicted of their sins, they asked: “What shall we do?” he did not say: “Believe on Christ who died for your sins.” He rather commanded them to “repent and be baptized every one…for the remission of sins” (Acts 2:38).”
First, what was conveyed was related to the receiving of salvation by Jew and by Gentile according to the promise as noted in the other verses cited, and is also of relevance to Peter’s words at the post-resurrection Pentecost: “For the promise is to you and to your children and to all those at a distance, as many as the Lord our God shall call to Himself” (Acts 2:39).
As far as what was said, Peter (as one of the apostles who “were all filled with the Holy Spirit” per Acts 2:4) could have spoken on many spiritual truths, including a full breakdown of all things related to atonement in Christ’s death. (Note that Christ’s crucifixion is mentioned in verses 23 and 36.)
However, what was announced was sufficient for the occasion. The Messiah was identified, as well as the remarkable fact of His being put to death and then rising from the dead. It certainly was sufficient enough for the message to get through to a multitude of people there (cf. Acts 2:41). This identification at Pentecost to the Jews there corresponds to the start of the “to Jerusalem” part of Christ’s sending forth His disciples (cf. Acts 1:8).
If we’re going to focus further on timelines, Peter in Acts 10 and 15 had plenty to say via revelation from above that related to salvation. With the Gentiles, the message of the cross / tree etc. was shared with those without knowledge of what was prophesied about belief and forgiveness (cf. Acts 10:39-42).
As far as remission of sins, the means of salvation were affirmed at the Jerusalem Council where Paul, Barnabas, Peter and others were present: “But we believe ourselves to be saved by the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same manner as they also are” (Acts 15:11). This goes along with all of the Scripture that indicates that the “we“ in which Peter includes himself related to the same manner of salvation that has always been distinct from works and physical acts, so that no one may boast (cf. Eph. 2:8-10, Galatians 3:6, Romans 4:2-3, Titus 2:11-14, 3:4-8 etc.)
Paul’s words later to those from a largely Gentile congregation correspond with that, as he recalled “earnestly testifying both to the Jewish and to Greeks repentance in God and faith in our Lord Jesus” (Acts 20:21).
“Peter’s words at the post-resurrection Pentecost:”
Peter and the twelve apostles of Israel preached the cross… as bad news.
The Cross as Bad News
By Justin Johnson
Have you ever heard the cross preached as bad news?
It happens. A lot.
I can remember attending church meetings where pictures of a bloody British man posing as Jesus were shown so that the viewers would feel guilty about what Christ suffered on our behalf.
That was bad.
The explanations of pain, suffering, and the nail piercing the Lord went through were excruciating to my soul, and were all used to make me feel the burden of rejecting Christ, and putting him on that cross.
This is the bad news of the cross.
An altar call and a petition to “receive Jesus” always followed. (Receiving Jesus is not the gospel that saves.) After all, he went through so much suffering, why wouldn’t I become a “follower of Jesus“?
Would I be the one yelling, “crucify him!”, or would I be with Mary at the foot of the cross weeping that he was put to death.
Tears of regret and sorrow always accompany the preaching of the cross as bad news. The bad news of the cross is not a gospel message (remember, gospel means good news). It is a guilt message.
Bad News of Isaiah 53
The bad news of the cross is commonplace in churches that fail to rightly divide. Why?
Outside of Paul (where the good news of the cross is found) the cross is taught as bad news often.
Isaiah 53 is one example that prophecies a suffering servant who dies innocently because of the sins of Israel.
How is an innocent man being put to death because of the sins of others good news? Of course, Isaiah says that God rewards the suffering servant, but who wouldn’t? He was innocent! He deserves reparations!
Isaiah 53 is an obvious prophecy of the death of Christ, but it does not contain the good news of the cross. It contains the bad news that Christ died at the hands of Israel because of their transgressions.
Peter’s Bad News / Good News
Peter and the twelve apostles of Israel preached the cross… as bad news.
“…ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:” – Acts 2:23
“God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye crucified, both Lord and Christ.”- Acts 2:36
“…Pilate was determined to let him go, but ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer…and [ye] killed the Prince of Life…” – Acts 3:13-15
“…Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.” – Acts 5:30
All of this was intended to place the responsibility for the death of Jesus on the hands of unbelieving Israel (Acts 5:28). This was bad news for them.
The good news Peter preached was that Jesus was Christ and King, he was resurrected, and he would return with his kingdom. Israel had a chance to be forgiven for their sin of killing Christ if they would repent (Acts 2:38, 3:17-21).
They were blamed and burdened with the cross which they should have regretted in order to compel them to ask God for forgiveness. According to Peter’s preaching, it was a mistake that they crucified the Lord, but God is willing to forgiven them, and so it is in so many Christian churches today.
Why did the Lord die? For many so-called Christians who do not know the gospel, they think it was a shame and mistake that he died.
The Mystery of Good News
It was not until the mystery of the gospel was revealed to the apostle Paul that the preaching of the cross was heard as good news.
“…God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ,…” – Gal 6:14
The cross itself was no longer a burden, but the means through which all men could be saved by grace through faith (1 Cor 1:18; 1 Cor 1:21).
Why was it now good news? What had changed about it? It was still an innocent man dying because of sins. Only now the cross of Christ would be preached as a means of salvation.
The cross was a means to separate us from the world, and the world from us (Gal 6:14). Through the cross, we can be crucified and yet live!
“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me:…” – Gal 2:20
The Good News of the Cross
Why would it be good news that we can be crucified in Christ? We are all sinners deserving of death and through the gospel preaching of the cross, God counts us dead in Christ with our sins forgiven when we trust the cross of Christ as good news.
Now, what a glorious thing that Christ died for us!
It is no longer the source of shame or guilt, but the shame remover and guilt reliever. We are reckoned dead, and the body of sin destroyed, by the glorious good news of the cross of Christ (Rom 6:1-5).
The cross is no longer a condemnation, but should be preached as the means to justify all men. It is a sin payment, an offer of substitution, an imputation of righteousness by faith alone (2 Cor 5:21).
It is not Christ getting what he didn’t deserve, it is now Christ doing for us what we didn’t deserve!
Right division affects how we preach the cross of Christ. Nobody before Paul knew the mystery good news of the cross of Christ, and if we make ourselves the covenant people with Isaiah 53 and Acts 2 as our pattern, we may think the cross is bad news.
The bad news of the cross was replaced by the good news of the cross when the mystery of Christ was revealed. Now the cross is good news for all, and it’s a shame if any church is caught teaching it otherwise.

Thomas Newman’s music always reminds me of solace. It reminds me of those moments when the world, or at least your part of it, is unnaturally still. It’s still out there, of course, but for just a fleeting, brief time we’re not completely “of” it any more. At least for a few moments, anyway. Here’s a comment from one of the posters on the Youtube thread:
“This song is like a lost memory. Engraved in your mind, soul and heart. Summer breeze, chilled water and being suspended in air. This man is a genius along with all of the Newman family. This is music is undescribale and nobody can explain it. Even if it has no story or history it still brings the same feeling you recieve behind your eyes as you are about to cry. God bless this piece.”
Yes, exactly. It’s like you’re outside taking sunset photos and suddenly, clouds come … and yet, you can feel the precise moment of sunset at twilight, along with the birds, who become suddenly hushed. Then the moment passes, leaving the feeling that day has decidedly passed into night. Now you can look back on it, or forwards to the next sunrise.
Exactly. We’ve all been “in” those moments amd they are very special but only to us. Sharing them with ohters requires some philosophical and psychological work that most peope—and who can blame them?—-aren’t all that interested in. You have to ask: Is this what Newman was communicating to us or is that what we’re communicating to him about his music? It’s been my experience that most composers don’t like to get into the “deep-woo-woo” of why they wrote what they wrote. It’s probably just as well. They deserve they’re secrets.
And all too often, the explanations of why it was written detract from the work itself. As Carl Sandburb said about his poetry and why he never would give an explanation of what any poem meant or why he wrote it.. “doing that would forever limit it’s meaning to my own. Others will read my work and provide meaning to it, which I could never have imagined.”
“the explanation of why…detracts from the work itself.”
Funny, that’s exactly what I was thinking when I saw a pic of the Lincoln emancipation statue they’re removing in Boston.
I’m not a music theorist but it sounds like the composer uses the concept of unresolved chords in his composition to leave the listener continually suspended and never arriving at the anticipated destination.
“Sounds” like it. 🙂

Long one of my favorite pieces of music. And so brilliantly used in American Beauty.
Found a better clip….can’t seem to edit posts anymore….
And yes, I know it has Kevin Spacey in it…..and he is a bad man (his exploits ruined this film for me)…..but the scene is beautiful.
Question for anyone here.
I see on the DC website that they say you have to have the covid test within 72 hrs of visiting.
How do they check?
Does anyone know?
They don’t have checkpoints going into the city, and haven’t heard about anybody taking in the train that’s been the subject of checks either.
Thanks you.
I’m flying in from Seattle and would hate to get stopped before the rally.
Just don’t let any DC Commies (officials) know you’re a visitor. ?
Thanks. ?
I’ll be there if I have to sneak in under cover of darkness.
. . . but deliver us from the Evil One.

The Holy Prophet Daniel and the Three Children: Ananias, Azarias, and Misael
From 14th The Prologue: “According to Saint Cyril of Alexandria, Daniel and the Three Children lived to great old age in Babylon, and were beheaded with the sword for the true Faith. When Ananias was beheaded, Azarias held out his robe and caught his head, then Misael caught Azarias’s head, and Daniel Misael’s. An angel of God carried their bodies to Judea, to Mount Gebal, and placed them under a rock. According to tradition, these four men arose at the time of the death of the Lord and appeared to many, then fell asleep again. Daniel is counted as one of the four Great Prophets (with Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel). He lived and prophesied half-way through the thousand years before Christ.”
The Holy Prophet Daniel and the Three Children are among the Saints who are commemorated today, December 17th on the traditional Calendar of the Orthodox Christian Church and December 30th on the civil calendar.
Thank you so much for these posts Sepp. As a child, some of my relatives were Orthodox Christians and your posts bring many fond memories as well as teachings. God bless you and yours as you soon celebrate what we called “Little Christmas”
Understanding that Our Rights, among which are Life, Liberty[Freedom] and the pursuit of Happiness, are endowed by Our Creator[God] is paramount. If Rights could be granted by man [like some in Government seems to believe], they can just as easily be denied. Separate but equal Rights are the foundation of the civil society. Walter Williams was fond of pointing out the fact that Government cannot ‘give’ anything [rights, money, etc.] to anyone without denying the same to someone else. Newton’s 3rd Law, action = opposite reaction. God does not respect one person over another.
In God We Trust.
If you have read and understood the info I have given you, you should be able to rationally and logically deduce that the way to unlimited economic opportunity [pure equity] for all People is presently upon us. The world looks to us to lead.
If you do understand, honestly, ask yourself, as do I, what are people waiting for ? We’re not waiting on God [Christ already died and rose again for the forgiveness of ALL sin]. Nobody’s waiting on me for anything. I’ve delivered [the way and the truth]. It’s your life. Are people waiting on the Government or the President ? News flash. They work for us!!!
The kids deserve better. God’s word tells us that parents are to provide for the children, not the children providing for parents. We can free them from this current bondage[debt] in no time at all. Unlimited blessings, that’s God.
Mal 3:10 ‘Test me now in this and see if I don’t open the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing that there won’t be room enough to contain it.’ Remember, this was before the Cross, under the law, when tithing was mandatory.
But now, under grace, not law, we are without excuse;
Heb 2:3 ‘How shall we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation’
Oh, but they are such cute little things.

“AND EVERY VIRTUE WE POSSESS”
“All my fresh springs shall be in Thee.” Psalm lxxxvii. 7 P.B.V.
Our Lord never patches up our natural virtues, He re-makes the whole man on the inside. “Put on the new man,” i.e., see that your natural human life puts on the garb that is in keeping with the new life. The life God plants in us develops its own virtues, not the virtues of Adam but of Jesus Christ. Watch how God will wither up your confidence in natural virtues after sanctification, and in any power you have, until you learn to draw your life from the reservoir of the resurrection life of Jesus. Thank God if you are going through a drying-up experience!
The sign that God is at work in us is that He corrupts confidence in the natural virtues, because they are not promises of what we are going to be, but remnants of what God created man to be. We will cling to the natural virtues, while all the time God is trying to get us into contact with the life of Jesus Christ which can never be described in terms of the natural virtues. It is the saddest thing to see people in the service of God depending on that which the grace of God never gave them, depending on what they have by the accident of heredity. God does not build up our natural virtues and transfigure them, because our natural virtues can never come anywhere near what Jesus Christ wants. No natural love, no natural patience, no natural purity can ever come up to His demands. But as we bring every bit of our bodily life into harmony with the new life which God has put in us, He will exhibit in us the virtues that were characteristic of the Lord Jesus.
“AND EVERY VIRTUE WE POSSESS IS HIS ALONE.”

I have been extremely skeptical of the news/protocols for COVID. I know it is a real virus, and people do die from it, but it is difficult to take all the societal hype, fear, and upheavals seriously after my family’s recent experience. I thought I would share it with you all for what it is worth. Skip to the last paragraph if you want the short version.
My father is 87, a diabetic, but otherwise of sound mind and body. Yesterday, he woke with a fever of 101, tightness in his chest, and a productive cough. Our first thought was not COVID, but bronchitis or perhaps pneumonia. We tried to get him in to see his general doc, but they wanted to send him to an urgent care 30 miles away (because every doctor is part of a network now and they want to keep the $ in the family despite any inconvenience to the patient).
Instead, we took him to a local urgent care where they swabbed for COVID, did an EKG, and took a chest X-ray. He tested positive and they were concerned enough to ask him to go the ER at the local hospital. So, off we went.
At the hospital, we were shooed out – can’t stay with him, because you know COVID. After an hour of no news, my husband went back in to see what was happening. He found Dad sitting in the hallway by himself. We were told not to worry, someone was checking on him periodically – Dad laughed and said the receptionist would turn around to glance at him once in a while. They tried to shoo him out again, but my husband refused to leave.
Several more hours later, Dad was finally taken to an ER room where an actual doctor would review his workup. We were again shooed out with a promise that we would be able to talk to the doctor. Dad called a half hour later. The doctor had come and gone and he was being sent home. The doctor told him his vitals were good, he was fighting the virus naturally. He would probably have a couple of bad days ahead, but come back if things are worse.
He was given no medication, no prophylactic, no advice on treating symptoms, no quarantine protocol, nothing. I repeat – after 7 hours – he was given absolutely NOTHING. Now, you might be thinking that this a small town hospital, it’s not. It’s the finest hospital network in the Chicagoland area, one of the best in the nation (or so they say).
When an 87 year old diabetic with a COVID positive test and breathing symptoms gets sent home with a smile and a ‘good luck’, it reaffirms that our trust belongs only in the Lord and not in man.
Great story, MamaEagle. Prayers for you and your dad. He sounds like a great guy, and so does your husband.
Interesting article on melatonin as a possible Covid treatment. It seems there are a LOT of options.

I am sorry for your ordeal. I’ve been having cough since Christmas Eve. Later I had body aches, cramps, started feeling extremely tired, no appetite. At first we blamed it on the cedar fever but yesterday afternoon I went to my primary doctor who is a friend from church. Tested positive. Got a Rx for a Z-pack. But miracle of miracles, on the NIH site both HCQ and Ivermectin are approved treatments, now that the election is over. Because the Z-pack in combination with HCQ prolong slightly the Q-T interval and I am taking an anti arrhythmic drug I opted for the Ivermectin.
So get your Dad in the Z-pack and decide which way to go with the other drugs. My personal preference would be the Ivermectin. One dose now and may need a second dose a week later if the person is still hospitalized. That’s what the NIH say.
Prayers for your Dad’s speedy recovery. And don’t let the Chiraq doctors bully you.
And one more thing, the dose for Ivermectin is 200 mcg/kg. That’s micrograms, or 0.2 mg/kg. aThe human preparation comes in 3 mg tablets.
Thank you for recommendation, We asked about Ivermectin, Z-pak, and HCQ and were told that hospital does not prescribe any of them. I guess we will go doctor shopping in order to be prepared should we need it. I hope you are feeling better soon too!
Just say’n… 😉
“perhaps pneumonia” = penicillin 500 mg;
3 week treatment = 42 tablets, 2 per day;
start with double dosage.
Flu season, still. Some forms
contain bacterial pneumonia.
Get a “second opinion” and have
his vitamin C and D levels check.
Have him wash them down with
Chaga mushroom extract = powder
form (add to hot water) for “tea” in
case of COVID = avoid sugar.

Thank you for the advice.
He was treated in the exactly appropriate way IMO. No decent doctor normally writes meds for a patient if their numbers are good. Meds incur risks, and the first admonition of the Hippocrates Oath is to “Do no harm…”
Yes, by history the man is in high-risk categories. But if his entire collection of symptoms aren’t far outside normal range, his body is already doing the work and should be left to do it. Unlike the PCR test, a chest x-ray doesn’t lie. (I was an imaging tech.) If you started medicating him before necessity, it could weaken his own immune system capability. All good doctors proceed from less invasive/more conservative treatments toward more proactive involvement – on a risk vs. benefit basis.
The reason he was left alone and only monitored intermittently is because of the rules of triage. He was generally “okay”, just not feeling well. Back in the exam rooms where you couldn’t see would be patients with actively bleeding wounds, acute breathing distress, chest pains etc. All the stuff that simply can’t wait. It’s not “first come first served” at any clinic. Staff are trained to re-organize patients by acute need.
Mikey- I would agree with everything you said.
It was the fact that urgent care sent him to the ER that raised the expectation that further treatment would be given. I didn’t mention that urgent care wanted to take him by ambulance. So, either the waiting in the hallway improved his condition considerably or he should never have been sent to the ER in the first place.

Re: Congressman elect Luke Letlow’s death from ‘Covid’:
LSU Health Shreveport Chancellor G.E. Ghali said Letlow died from a heart attack ➜following a procedure related to the infection.⬅︎ Ghali said. “It was just COVID.”
Um, it sounds more to me like it was the procedure, Dr.
That’s an assumption based on incomplete data. None of us have seen his chart. COVID produces more clotting in younger patients. The clots were there (wherever) BEFORE the procedure, they were caused by the disease, and a thrombus can be “thrown” toward the heart from anywhere, though they usually congregate in the lower legs, extremities and lung tissue. We don’t know what the procedure was either. It may have been a surgical attempt to remove clots from a lung, where the patient could additionally be at risk of a pulmonary embolism if invasive intervention was not attempted.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You. Also, we pray for Angels to protect and support our Sundance as he works for justice and peace.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
Amen.
Amen.

Rousing anti-lockdown speech (short) by a business owner.
Anyone have an idea when we will be able to see the names of those who “liked” a post as well as being notified when someone has “replied” to a post?
Open your mind and except the truth. This man would not be throwing MOABs like this without concrete proof.
