A rare but solid piece of reporting from the New York Times connects and outlines an issue that CTH 2.0 has been reviewing for several years with increased attention.
Essentially the U.S. security apparatus uses private sector data on cell phone users; purchasing as if they were commercial consumers of data; as part of their investigative and monitoring processes for Americans. This is a big privacy issue that has been the subject of several hours of backroom discussion amid the CTH 2.0 tech team.
WASHINGTON — A military arm of the intelligence community buys commercially available databases containing location data from smartphone apps and searches it for Americans’ past movements without a warrant, according to an unclassified memo obtained by The New York Times.
Defense Intelligence Agency analysts have searched for the movements of Americans within a commercial database in five investigations over the past two and a half years, agency officials disclosed in a memo they wrote for Senator Ron Wyden, Democrat of Oregon.
[…] The disclosure sheds light on an emerging loophole in privacy law during the digital age: In a landmark 2018 ruling known as the Carpenter decision, the Supreme Court held that the Constitution requires the government to obtain a warrant to compel phone companies to turn over location data about their customers. But the government can instead buy similar data from a broker — and does not believe it needs a warrant to do so.
[…] The government’s use of commercial databases of location information has come under increasing scrutiny. Many smartphone apps log their users’ locations, and the app makers can aggregate the data and sell it to brokers, who can then resell it — including to the government.
It has been known that the government sometimes uses such data for law enforcement purposes on domestic soil. (more)
On the whole this issue has been the subject of much research and discussion amid our archives. When CTH was deplatformed by WordPress/Automattic; and anticipating a new regime in the White House would/could weaponize user data for political targeting; we began an exhaustive review of how to secure the CTH community and create a place where the rebel alliance could assemble without concern of metadata exploitation. That effort is ongoing and more information will available soon with updates to the CTH optimization process currently underway.
Knowing the objectives of a JoeBama administration and aligned with the ideological intents of Big Tech we can easily see how “contractors” within the U.S. intelligence apparatus would likely operate as brokers to retrieve private sector information from big tech suppliers of user data. This process allows U.S. intel organizations like the DIA to purchase information without search warrants exactly as described in the New York Times article.
When you overlay the intent of the JoeBama team to identify subversive voices, and then accept they will assign the “domestic terrorist” label to those who stand against the totalitarian policy of the regime, you can see how the privacy issue can be weaponized.
From our perspective…. Why would the government need a warrant if the information is available to anyone who wants it, for a fee or otherwise? The real solution would be to prohibit collection in the first place; anything else is chaff and countermeasures.
The Rebel Alliance is currently formulating anti-fragile technology platforms that block this intrusive exploitation. CTH is leading this process.
Yes, there are more of us than them…. and we are smart. Stay small, live Bigly.
Its the script from MI-5 Season 5. Only its real.
okay..so lemme get this straight.
scotus says no…but okay to get it from a third party. it’s really incredible.
so two things:
who has standing to file suit against DIA/USG?
CALLING MRS SIDNEY POWELL. !!!
SECOND…and I think we all need to carefully consider this…how about WE THE PEOPLE POOL OUR MONEY AND BUY SOME DATA..CREATE A THIRD PARTY EVEN… THEN BEGIN A DATABASE THAT SELECTS/TARGETS SPECIFIC PEOPLE AND ORGANIZATIONS.
THEN PUBLISH?
YOU CAN CALL IT PATRIOT WIKI.
THIS
THIS
THIS
WILL HELP ENCOURAGE THE FORMING OF THE PATRIOT PARTY.
NOTE: I JUST FIRED OFF AN MESSAGE TO OUR PRESIDENT TRUMP AND HAVE ASKED HIM TO CONSIDER TAKING PART AND RECRUITING SOME OF HIS PATRIOTS WHO ARE INITIATED.
SUNDANCE:. I ENCOURAGE YOU..YOU TO MAKE THIS A KEY PART OF YOUR REPERTOIRE!!
make it so.
this is going to to be so much fun!
God Bless America
Creating and building the Patriot database would be awesome. Beat thee bastards at their own game.
Where pray tell did you contact President Trump since he’s banned from all social media? I hope it wasn’t WH.gov:):)
Yeah, don’t know where that message went but it was not to Trump.
Intelligently, he never really used email.
Our Pres email account was also closed down
https://trumpnewscenter.com/home
there is a “contact us” tab 😉
https://trumpnewscenter.com/contact-us
That website has a disclaimer at the bottom that says it is not owned by Trump or the Trump organization. It says it is owned by one of Trump’s 76 million followers. It is not a direct connection to President Trump.
President Trump publicly revealed his personal phone number while on live tv a few years back.
I am NOT going to publish it on this website.
it’s easy to find. I recommend it.
you are going to talk to him, but you can send a message and if it’s important you will get a response..make sure to leave an email address in your text for contact.
been doing this for quite a long time.
be respectful…I MUST suggest this…I am sure he receives alot of BS…especially now.
God Bless America
“not going to talk to him” (edit)….
It’s a given that Conservatives are Patriots. But the word Patriot now seems to mean domestic terrorist. With the Newspeak opposition controlling thought and speech now the name of a new political party should be clear to all what the beliefs and goals are. Conservatives revere the Constitution. They desire Liberty for their children. Why not The Constitutional Liberty Party? With the Tree of Liberty as its symbol. The commies will have a difficult time countering that message. Time to reclaim the language and beat them over the head with it. I’m getting tired of the lies. Truth is on life support.
Does DJT have a different email address? Please share.
Unless its VPN protected or Proton mail, I doubt it
The DeepState scum read all the emails
We can assume from this they are also tracking and listening to SCOTUS calls
Glad I can live just fine without a cellphone. If you can’t, then learn to leave the phone home when you run out to the store or on other errands. The higher the population density where you live the less likely you are to really need a cellphone.
The Amish lifestyle gets more appealing every day.
Problem today is they can track your vehicles.
not a vintage volvo….. mwhaaa haaa haaa..
Just got back from our local fantastic Amish bakery MH.
We have many Amish neighbors who run 21st century businesses.
They all use smart phones, electricity and have indoor plumbing.
They are not a disconnected from the world as many think, it is very hard to live separate from the world now days.
Perhaps they are Mennonites, and not traditional Amish?
We note that the Amish may have voted for President Trump this year!

I gave up a smart phone years ago. I love computers…just don’t want to carry one around with me. Use an old school flip with no locate on it. Don’t think they are interested in me enough to ping a cell tower for my flip. Retiring soon, so going to try and get rid of the flip. It can be done. People say “Plane, what if you need 911” I say “this is my 911 , (holding up the .357 mag) actually it is a 357 not 911” I say to them. “Plane what if your car breaks down” I say “just hold up my hand wave and someone with a phone will stop”. Plane “what if someone wants to get ahold of you” I tell them “I don’t want anyone to call me”. It is all doable.
I really hate to be that guy, but if you have a mobile phone that uses cell towers, then your location is known…it’s the basic principle of how cell towers and providers “connect” to your phone seemlessly as you move about. It is also quite precise. Particularly if you are in or near a dense city with many towers. Think radio DF (triangulation on steriods). Also most providers SELL metadata to the big data centers (amazon, microsoft, apple, google, walmart, target, as USG!)….the use of AI and machine learning applies to this BIG DATA allows for predictive models about your routine movements, and ALL operating modes of your mobile phone.
now if you really want to go as dark as possible and still be a mobile phone user, then you must do several things:
a. Get a “burner” phone….no registration…cash only…and have a third party do the buying.
b. DO NOT link any personal identifiable information about YOU NOR ANYONE that you KNOW.
c.. DO NOT CALL ANYONE THAT YOU KNOW and DO NOT GO TO WEBSITES that you normally visit.
d. do not put the service into autopay…cash only…get one of those pay as you go cash cards.
e. DO NOT use the phone at or near your residence NOR any other place YOU normally visit.
f. do not call anyone that YOU KNOW. Only other burner phones.
so the watchers will see metadata on a phone not linked to YOU. And yes, they will be able to see the movement of the phone via cell tower connections…Establishing that this phone belongs to you will require a vast amount of data crunching and that gets expensive in terms of resources…so as long as there isn’t something suspicious you are doing with it, the odds that the watchers are interested is near zero.
now step back and think about this state of the secret police spy state. If you really want to protect your privacy and your security, the only way to do that is to basically own a burner phone but not actually use it for daily useful practical purposes….so it becomes moot for most people.
the reality is that the drug traffickers who are professionals no longer use burner phones for more than a day or two max. And opsec is very good, using encrypted apps, not voice..no website visits..no checking tik tok…bookface…etc…even more secure, is the principle: if you really want to protect a secret…no device ever…face to face…period.
sorry to be “that guy”…but the reality is that there is no such thing as privacy on mobile phones and still be useful and practicable. It’s the reality. It’s been this way for over 25 years..maybe more.
and note: same thing with “house” and business phones.
and on that note, there IS a great interest in the segment of burner phones..it’s a red flag…so they ARE tracked with lots of eyes on the metadata..looking for connections, who is calling who, etc.
You make a lot of good points here regitiger.
It is very very hard to stay off the grid.
We have a few people who live up in the mountains here who have wood stoves for heating and cooking and solar panels for limited power and some have wells for their water or haul it in.
It is a very hard life not one I want to go to.
It can sound very romantic and pionieerish but really living that way for very long is not for me.
We are stuck with Big Brother looking over our shoulder and do not need to put up with it but spending huge amounts of energy putting phones in tinfoil or switching them out for burner phones will not solve the real problem in the long run.
Big Brother can tap into our bank accounts in a heart beat or our electric company accounts or our phone land line accounts if it really want to or feels just like taking a peek.
We have big big problems that need to be fixed.
I forgot to mention the camera…need to place a blocking material over it…BOTH CAMERAS!
and never use BIOMETRIC security….not fingers…no matter if you are using a burner for high privacy or even a regular phone, it IS NOT WISE to record your actual fingerprints on a phone. Eventually, biometric data WILL be the target for some rather sophisticated hacking and fraud. It’s just a matter of time as the entire technology direction seems to be going toward ease of use, but with few guards against encrypting this biometric data.
and yes, biometric data IS sold ..there IS a market for it.
nothing says targeted advertising like fingerprints …
and note, same thing with voice…ok google…hell no!
hello siri…never.
Convenience always sacrifices security and privacy. always.
I am not paranoid. I just know that over time,as history has proven out, that these technologies will get pwned and the outcomes will be harmful…and we can’t count on big government to do much about it.
I mean if big government refuses to stop robocalls..?
I regret having to make this analogy, but the citizens in soviet block countries used to all go out at night to walk their dogs. It always coincided with nightly national news hour and allowed useful communication and realization of their vast majority. It wasn’t that much after that the USSR flatlined
We ALL used to only use a home phone. ..How did we survive ??? Do it again. Don’t need no electronoic leash. MAGAdammit
I agree. There is rarely a need to carry around a cell phone. On the very rare occasions when I have to, it’s not a smart phone, and it’s stuffed away in a faraday bag.
impedie:
Ae Regitiger clearly laid out there is almost zero electronic communications that can’t be easily and routinely monitored except some form of short-duration,single-mission phones.
Your “home phone” is likely VOIP over cable or vintage copper wiring and it gets converted fairly quickly to optical fiber interconnects and it’s just data at that point, including the voice, and very mineable.
It’s been almost 10 years for me w/o the transponder. I don’t miss it for a minute. I think I am much more intelligent than I was 10 years ago. I just tell people that I am not that popular anymore. 🙂 What are they gonna’ say?
Listen, I gave my offspring a computer once, along with software and hardware to video chat when I moved away for a job. They gave it all away in less than a year in their drugged induced stupor, or whatever it was. I just remind them of that when they B & moan.
IMO this is impossible to stop. Foreign governments can also purchase this information, and certainly do, though I suspect the Chinese government just steals it. And the US government can then obtain it from the foreign governments, including covertly by espionage/electronic intelligence.
This is another instance of technological developments humbugging the US Constitution and American law.
Tom Holsinger: Actually, the Constitution holds up just fine with advances in technology. However, plenty of people ignore what the Constitution plainly states.
Totally agree. An awesome, timeless document that those in power don’t want to adhere to.
Much like the Bible.
Obviously, this electronic information needs statutory control just as all electronic surveillance under the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968.
We need a law firm politically polar opposite of the Lawfare firm, but with the same mission. They’ve done a helluva job being a pain in the rear of DJT and all conservatives. Time to turn the table on the Dems and their apparati.
they are hired mercenaries..be careful what you ask for. there is ZERO honor or principle among this class of legal jackwagons. They are paid enormous fees to accomplish a mission. That IS ALL THEY ARE ABOUT..and frankly, to be blunt, I would never even consider getting in bed with this class of reprobates. No sooner that you believe trust is established, in no time at all, they WILL do an about face and sell you out. In fact, my informed opinion, is that the LEFT (the corruptors) are in many ways compromised by lawfare types…they KNOW EVERYTHING..that’s extraordinary power. I have no doubt, they use it to push specific agendas to the very clients they “represent”.
What works is well known, high profile attorneys with exemplary records, who are not members of any large legal firms. Independent patriotic christian righteous legal types..aka, Sidney Powell types!
sadly, and this is a testament to the reality, the number of honorable faithful attorneys who are actually very good at what they do, are far and few between…seriously outgunned and outnumbered by the corrupt heathens.
I LOVE you idea, just be careful in the selection and go into this understanding the reality.
also bear in mind that is would appear nearly all significant courts are compromised to a radical agenda, so it’s hardly plausible that even a demonstrable powerful argument is going to sway the courts..
we have seen that, have we not.
reason number 3,493,956,425 why the usual typical means to accomplish justice is decidedly favorable to agendas far away and opposed to the conservative christian political cause.
this is the state we are in.
finding a path forward will require enormous power and energy and creativity..and tons of hard work over a very long period of time. This corruption did not happen overnight..it’s the result of decades of hard work by the corruptors. Eating the elephant will require one bite at a time.
long game.
long soldier.
God Bless America
Edward Snowden told us that the government was hiring contractors to spy on everyone in 2013. That is why he should have been pardoned, despite his leftist stance. He informed the people that the government is violating their right against unreasonable search and seizure, intruding into everything and becoming all-knowing through contractors.
Yes, he and Assange.
SNOWDEN WAS AN ACTUAL WHISTLEBLOWER WHICH IS WHY HIS NAME IS KNOWN while the perfect call liar was protected.
AND Assange made government transparent and did the job any REAL journalist should be doing.
I am very angry they weren’t pardoned but I’m sure a lot of threats were coming Trump’s way about it and given the things we know they did to him like take away his banks I’d say there could be more to it than we know.
Falana, For sure. When General Flynn said President Trump would be the 46th President I had high hopes and I was at the Capitol on 1/6/2020 supporting our President and ALL AMERICA who believe in a LEGAL election.
I’ve read Snowden’s books and they both lay out the truth about the CIA. I was so pissed at people who called him a traitor because they could not see the forest for the trees.
Kinda like the folks who hide behind masks because the MSM said CHINESE VIRUS will kill you! But alas the scum of the scum, Frau Whitbitch now saying restaurants can open?
When the CV is emerging as a mutated MF’er? /sarc
I know there are tens of millions of American Patriots out there who know all this is BS because I saw a small and I say small percentage of them who traveled, spent their hard earned cash to fly, drive or get on a bus to show the ELITE (Politicians, etc, etc) that we will NOT be controlled.
I said SMALL because millions of them could not take off work or afford to travel but it really showed me (although I was already convinced) that PRESIDENT TRUMP had more support than any other president in history including Kennedy and maybe George Washington(although he had a tough row to how).
And now here we are……watching everything we hoped and prayed for being dismantled by an ILLEGAL BAND OF HOOLIGANS!
So the DEEP STATE can just threaten a sitting President who has fought for almost everything AMERICA stands for and we just let that go?……I rest my case.
My own suggestion for the problem that all of our data is for sale is to enact legislation that radically changes the way Big Tech collects and sells our data. Face it, when you’re in a hurry and a “routine update” to your software has occurred, but requires you to check “I agree,” you seldom grasp what it is you’ve agreed to. But the courts treat that as a contract.
So maybe a law should provide that no one may collect and sell personal data about anyone without either sharing 2% of the revenue generated from its sale with the user, or offering that user a private (no data collected) option for a reasonable fee.
free, but no as in free beer.
understand how the model works for tech..
it’s very very smart…
big tech will never go back and they have enormous influence on lawmakers even down to the local level…see SuckerBerg for example…half a billion dollars in this election alone…some people got very rich…all legal mind you! that’s power.
sadly, I am not convinced that this congress has any serious agenda to roll back S230 (sp?) nor do they desire to address or restrict big data industry. after all, USG is the NUMBER ONE CUSTOMER of data! Why would they want to alter that relationship?
Agreed. Everyone in office currently is a vote stealing bribed crook though so that’s down the road.
We have banana republic law now. A joke.

We always let them do us in.
They WANT people to die is my take on that
Please flag the psy ops troll.
Either you need depression services or you’re Eeyore psy ops trolling but I did not see a response where I tried to help. Now you’re just relentlessly trying to create contagious learned helplessness.
Stay small, live Bigly.
Great motto.
Military Intelligence Agency Says It Monitored U.S. Cellphone Movements Without WarrantDIA says it buys commercially available geolocation data and has used it five times in recent years for authorized investigations
https://www.wsj.com/articles/military-intelligence-agency-says-it-monitored-u-s-cellphone-movements-without-warrant-11611350374
We will never learn of the unauthorized “investigations” though, n’est-ce pas?
Bet there’s more than five of those. . .
Zuckerberg became a multi-billionaire by selling advertising?
Facebook is the best source of intelligence ever devised. Phone taps are labor-intensive. With Facebook, the target lays it all out, like an all-you-can-eat buffet.
I told my friend to buy FB stock at it’s low, it has never been close to that price since. It’s a datamining operation, along with AWS, once I figure out in 2012 they were constantly pinging computers all over the world, I knew AMZN was a good investment as well.
Not too mention DIA is DOD organization and is prohibited under Intelligence Oversite laws from collecting intelligence or spying on U.S. citizens.
New Facebook alternative
Is this true?
MeWe’s “Privacy Bill of Rights” prevents the company from collecting data and censoring any content that does not violate the site’s rules
https://bit.ly/39XWEYn
MeWe censors. They are shutting down Stop the Steal and other groups like that. They are no better. Gab is great as a Twatter alternative. Fakebook has no direct competition, yet. BUT, I’ve never joined Fakebook and have been able to live without it.
Andrew Torba, GAB CEO, warned of using MeWe. He claims they are not to be trusted. Granted, they are competitors. However, it is troublesome for him the say this and he seems pretty credible to me.
New patriot party would be awesome, I’m in,
So what? It is commercially available.
Leave your phone at home if this sort of thing worries you.
It’s been a long process, about 20 years since the Patriot Act, but now we are beginning to see what our Uni-Party planners have in mind for us; the recent stolen election, the D.C. dust-up on 01/06, and the JoeBama Inauguration are just the beginning after the coup; now we know what Biden meant when he said that he sees “darkness” for the Country.
They are using OUR tax dollars to pay THEIR friends for YOUR data and they are not concerned addressing the legality of their actions. The Russians must be jealous.
Some people want them to know their location, or data. I like to give them falsified data…. they seem to have a problem filtering the truth from untruth… which is what got Comey into hot water. Once you know they are spying on you, or everybody for that matter just give them a load of Crap…. They don’t know what is right, or wrong, up, or down. Let other people carry your phone, etc. Lol. The data is only as good as the facts allow for. The wannabe KGB Stasi can go to hell for all I care.
Additionally, use privacy options to turn off location services; power the phone off when done with it/not in use. Get off the digital crack!
Recall 4-5 years ago when military services cautioned the troops to turn off location services in their mobile devoices?
If they are going to get the data anyway, why not make it useless data. Call it swap phones. A group of people would agree to purchase burners and periodically swap them with other group members. Make the group large enough with almost random swaps and the data would be useless. When shopping membership cards first came out a few years ago there were people that would swap cards at checkout just for the fun of it. I knew guys in college that would coupons for disposable diapers and feminine products. Swap phones would work similarly.
This might even be a good business model. I would join and pay a periodic fee and supply a fresh burner phone for the system. Every so often I would get a new phone and mail in the old one. When due, I might even be able to include my membership fee in cash. The central mailer would only know the members by postal address which could be a PO Box. The data collected would still be a mess even if all of the phones were known.
Information can be encrypted. It’s the end-to-end metadata and other sources (e.g., photographs) that can be used for machine learning/AI purposes
Get a good Zero RF bag and put your phone in it when on the move. Good ones are not cheap but they really work. No emmisions means zero tracking. And you still have it with you for emergencies. Turning the phone off will not work. It’s always on even if it’s off.
Make sure your credit cards have EMV chips on them. and put them in the bag too. They can be tracked.
Disable tracking on your vehicle. That can be done by any mechanic with a computer that plugs into your vehicle for diagnostics.
When at home use trackless search engines and browsers on your computers. On your phone use anonymous search engines like Xayn, available on the app stores. Go through the settings on you phone and disable all tracking that you don’t use.
Encrypt all your hard drives. And your backups. It’s free and included from Microsoft and Apple.
And NEVER, NEVER join social media!
That’s a start.
Per other posts: complicate the pattern building with false behaviors.
Meet the machines that steal your phone’s dataKeeping tabs on civilian phones? There’s more than one way to skin that cat.
https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2013/09/meet-the-machines-that-steal-your-phones-data/2/
Remember the bomber in Nashville. He seemed to be after that AT&T switching station. Maybe that’s how nsa gets all their data from.
Level 3, or L-3 Technologies is another branch of the domestic spying operation.
Even if you don’t have a Google Account, Google can identify your location of your PC/laptop traffic based on your phone.
Time to pick up some old flip phones, and or throw-aways that do not have GPS, or other monitoring features….
They still track you, triangulating your position using cell towers and wifi hotspots. It’s even more accurate than GPS. If you want to have a cell phone and not be tracked you have to put it in a zero RF bag.
Texas HHSC has been purchasing information from databrokers for years to verify info for those applying for social services.
On the whole privacy issue, I have been divorced from Firefox now for a bit over a week. I’m using Brave for a browser, which seems to be much faster and I don’t think it has crashed once, and for the search engine I was using Startpage.
I was totally unimpressed with Startpage, NO DEEP DIVE, DEEP DIG MUSCLE, so today we separated ways, and I have already moved on with Swiss Cows. I can already tell the difference, but I am holding out for more WOW.
I am undecided on Brave as well. It is not as intuitive as Firefox in many ways. I am having to teach myself the new way to do many functions. I also really miss my screenshot clipper tool. I am having withdrawals. 🙂
Sorry, I meant to include this:
https://company.swisscows.ch/en
Swisscows has a mobile app. They also have an Instant Messenger app called Teleguard.
I am surprised Amazon has not put cameras on top of all their delivery trucks and sold that data to the gubt. USPS, FedEx, DHS and UPS too.
That’s why we still use flip phones.
Turn your cell phone location off or get your portable Faraday cage out (aluminum foil). You won’t be getting many calls this way but again neither will the DIA.
When connected use a VPN or an application like signal.
One last thing, buy stock in signal and cell phone VPN companies. I think their stock will be going up.
You know, I’m just not feeling the love from our government these days.
