Sunday October 25th – Open Thread

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

    Peace With God, Access To God And The Hope Of Glory

    By Pastor Cornelius R. Stam

    According to Rom. 4:25, Christ was delivered to death for our sins and then raised from the dead because He had fully settled our debt. The results of this mighty work of redemption are marvelous indeed to ponder over.

    First, it means for every believer in Christ, that “being justified by faith we have peace with God” (Rom. 5:1). If Christ has paid for our sins and the barrier between God and us has been removed, why should we not enjoy peace with God? Why should we not rise in the morning, go about our work during the day and retire at night with complete confidence that all is well; that we are at peace with God and that He loves us as His very own?

    But more: Verse 2 goes on to say that by Christ we also have “access by faith into this grace wherein we stand.” If the barrier of sin has been removed and we are at peace with God, what is there to keep us out of His presence, especially when He Himself bids us to “come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need”? (Heb.4:16). How wonderful to have a standing before God in grace! to be at peace with Him and to enjoy free access into His presence by faith!

    But there is still more. Not only does the believer in Christ enjoy peace with God and access to God, but, as this same verse says: “We rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” “Hope” in the Bible is, of course, more than a wish. It is an eager anticipation of wonderful things to come. Heb. 6:19 says: “Which hope we have as an anchor to the soul, both sure and stedfast.” Man has always been afraid of the glory of God. When the glory of the Lord shone round about the Judaean shepherds “they were sore afraid.” This was because “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23). But the simplest believer in Christ may rejoice in the anticipation of sharing God’s glory some day.

    Romans 4:25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

    Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
    2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

    Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

    Hebrews 6:19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;

    Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

      Here’s a good one to go with the above;

      “35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.“

        I’m not knowledgable enough to say, you’d need a computer geek – maybe you’ve got a friend? If not, ask at a computer store.

        If set up properly, I suspect the wi-fi software keeps internal log files of connections, disconnections and would note a device ID or number for each different device.

        I know that when I call up a simple wi-fi window on my laptop, it searches for wi fi networks and lists a couple

        If you read your wi-fi manual, it might tell you what kind of display panel to pull up that would show you who’s logged on to your network – kinda what I just described but in reverse – people instead of networks.

        So try to find a knowledgable person to advise you is what I’d do

          Of note, there is a possibility that information has been accessed by someone in this aprt bldg; I just don’t have any way of finding out if that is true or not. I think I read before where people can gain access but you’d think the Internet company would know that had happened and alert their legitimate customer of that taking place. Spectrum said no one was on my wi-fi when I talked to them about a year ago, but I’ve remained uneasy.

          I hope my grandson will be able to help me understand better if he comes to town for the holidays. And I must fight the sin of unbelief and rely on God to expose whatever wrong may or may not be going on. He is in control of everything and will work it to our good.

          TY so much for your kindness in replying.

      We are so blessed to have lived in these times . . . Sadly, we now face the possibility that the kind of liberty and freedom that allowed music like this to flourish may be coming to an end. While I’ve always enjoyed the music of Crosby, Stills, Nash (and, occasionally, Young) I’ve also found their politics to be both under-informed and repugnant. Having to listen to someone who can create such great songs repeatedly make political comments that are more rooted in convenience and superficiality than intellectual content is tiring beyond belief. It is just this kind of convenient twaddle that has led us to where we are today.

      After all this time, these guys stil don’t understand that creativity dies when socialism flourishes.

        Garrison yours is a profound statement about the music and entertainment industries blind attraction to the Left.

        So many performing artists have been easily indoctrinated into a “resistance” culture (thinking that it’s “cool”) , but were and still are unaware that they have been “resisting” the very elements of a unique society that protected their freedom of expression.

        Of course this applies to so many on the Left today; like moths helping to build the fire that attracts them and that will ultimately consume them.

          Not that having a good education is a be-all-end-all (which is surely isn’t) but I have found that may popular musician’s are just not well-enough educated to understand that the persuasions of leftest ideology are just empty promises that won’t be met. Regardless of who you are or how well educated, you still have to dig a little to reach any kind of understanding about “left” and “right” actually mean. Then you have to figure out where liberty and freedom fit in. Most musicians (and far too many “regular” people, too) are just too self-absorbed to do the spade work to reach that kind of understanding. I say this because I started out hard left.

    “I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.” 1 Cor. ix. 22

    A Christian worker has to learn how to be God’s noble man or woman amid a crowd of ignoble things. Never make this plea – If only I were somewhere else! All God’s men are ordinary men made extraordinary by the matter He has given them. Unless we have the right matter in our minds intellectually and in our hearts affectionately, we will be hustled out of usefulness to God. We are not workers for God by choice. Many people deliberately choose to be workers, but they have no matter in them of God’s almighty grace, no matter of His mighty word. Paul’s whole heart and mind and soul were taken up with the great matter of what Jesus Christ came to do, he never lost sight of that one thing. We have to face ourselves with the one central fact – Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

    “I have chosen you.” Keep that note of greatness in your creed. It is not that you have got God but that He has got you. Here, in this College, God is at work, bending, breaking, moulding, doing just as He chooses. Why He is doing it, we do not know; He is doing it for one purpose only – that He may be able to say, This is My man, My woman. We have to be in God’s hand so that He can plant men of the Rock as He has planted us.

    Never choose to be a worker, but when God has put His call on you, woe be to you if you turn to the right hand or to the left. He will do with you what He never did with you before the call came; He will do with you what He is not doing with other people. Let Him have His way.

    Recent Colorado wildfires have been very bad. A major reason has been not clearing the massive amount of dead trees due to beetle kill in the state over the last decades. But there are always good stories to be found – check out the smile on Ennis the donkey’s face (toward end of article) after being reunited with his owner-since-birth,Travis. Also, Ennis is best pals with horse pal Adam, and this quote from Travis made me smile too – “I can’t imagine if they were alone, because Adam is very nervous. ”If he didn’t have Ennis with him, he would be really stressed out.”

    I have never been good a discerning when God is giving me guidance and when He just wants me to hear his advise. But today, I believe I understand what he will do for all of us willing to help ourselves. If we will just do the simple thing God gave us to protect our freedom for all time, he will see to the outcome that will give us back our free country.
    I just wanted to say that to all Treepers because I know he has told me not to fret and to hold my head up and do may part.
