The Event 201 pandemic exercise, conducted on October 18, 2019, vividly demonstrated a number of these important gaps in pandemic preparedness as well as some of the elements of the solutions between the public and private sectors that will be needed to fill them.
        Text
Event 201 simulates an outbreak of a novel zoonotic coronavirus transmitted from bats to pigs to people that eventually becomes efficiently transmissible from person to person, leading to a severe pandemic. The pathogen and the disease it causes are modeled largely on SARS, but it is more transmissible in the community setting by people with mild symptoms.

The disease starts in pig farms in Brazil, quietly and slowly at first, but then it starts to spread more rapidly in healthcare settings. When it starts to spread efficiently from person to person in the low-income, densely packed neighborhoods of some of the megacities in South America, the epidemic explodes. It is first exported by air travel to Portugal, the United States, and China and then to many other countries. Although at first some countries are able to control it, it continues to spread and be reintroduced, and eventually no country can maintain control.

There is no possibility of a vaccine being available in the first year. There is a fictional antiviral drug that can help the sick but not significantly limit spread of the disease.

Since the whole human population is susceptible, during the initial months of the pandemic, the cumulative number of cases increases exponentially, doubling every week. And as the cases and deaths accumulate, the economic and societal consequences become increasingly severe.

The scenario ends at the 18-month point, with 65 million deaths. The pandemic is beginning to slow due to the decreasing number of susceptible people. The pandemic will continue at some rate until there is an effective vaccine or until 80-90 % of the global population has been exposed. From that point on, it is likely to be an endemic childhood disease.

What if the entire reason we have a virus is April 1 was the date to release the Papa D transcripts that exonerated the entire “Russian collusion” narrative – the same one that cost Trump the house in 2018?

Conspiracy? Listen to this phone call – and realize they STILL went to a FISA court and spied on Trumps campaign – despite being denied with facts, several times….trillions at stake ?

Event 201 was a 3.5-hour pandemic tabletop exercise that simulated a series of dramatic, scenario-based facilitated discussions, confronting difficult, true-to-life dilemmas associated with response to a hypothetical, but scientifically plausible, pandemic. 15 global business, government, and public health leaders were players in the simulation exercise that highlighted unresolved real-world policy and economic issues that could be solved with sufficient political will, financial investment, and attention now and in the future.

The exercise consisted of pre-recorded news broadcasts, live “staff” briefings, and moderated discussions on specific topics. These issues were carefully designed in a compelling narrative that educated the participants and the audience.

The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, World Economic Forum, and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation jointly propose these recommendations.

        Purpose
In recent years, the world has seen a growing number of epidemic events, amounting to approximately 200 events annually. These events are increasing, and they are disruptive to health, economies, and society. Managing these events already strains global capacity, even absent a pandemic threat. Experts agree that it is only a matter of time before one of these epidemics becomes global—a pandemic with potentially catastrophic consequences. A severe pandemic, which becomes “Event 201,” would require reliable cooperation among several industries, national governments, and key international institutions.

Recent economic studies show that pandemics will be the cause of an average annual economic loss of 0.7% of global GDP—or $570 billion. The players’ responses to the scenario illuminated the need for cooperation among industry, national governments, key international institutions, and civil society, to avoid the catastrophic consequences that could arise from a large-scale pandemic.

Similar to the Center’s 3 previous exercises—Clade X, Dark Winter, and Atlantic Storm—Event 201 aimed to educate senior leaders at the highest level of US and international governments and leaders in global industries.

It is also a tool to inform members of the policy and preparedness communities and the general public. This is distinct from many other forms of simulation exercises that test protocols or technical policies of a specific organization. Exercises similar to Event 201 are a particularly effective way to help policymakers gain a fuller understanding of the urgent challenges they could face in a dynamic, real-world crisis.

        Scenario
Details about the scenario are available here.

        Recommendations
The next severe pandemic will not only cause great illness and loss of life but could also trigger major cascading economic and societal consequences that could contribute greatly to global impact and suffering. The Event 201 pandemic exercise, conducted on October 18, 2019, vividly demonstrated a number of these important gaps in pandemic preparedness as well as some of the elements of the solutions between the public and private sectors that will be needed to fill them. The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, World Economic Forum, and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation jointly propose these recommendations.

You still have it BACKWARDS. In fact, this entire thing has been handled 100% backwards by the Govt from the get go. If you are healthy and haven’t been sickened with COVID-19 you should hope to get it and develop immunity. Those at most risk (elderly, obese, diabetes, heart condition, etc.) may quarantine if they desire but not FORCED to. Reports are saying that once antibody testing is widely available “immunity certificates” may be given out to show who is immune and therefore eligible to return to the workplace. People will be lining up to catch the disease if that is the approach used. Herd immunity is the only thing that will prevent future outbreaks in the absence of a viable vaccine. Thanks to the national lock down we do not have it in this country.

The Dims and docs of doom set a trap. Many people have bought into it. The President is caught in it. HOW CAN WE OPEN BACK UP WITHOUT KILLING MILLIONS OF PEOPLE!! I see this reaction in the news, propaganda press pushes it, Dim leaders mantra it. All for the purpose of killing the economy and Trump.

The answer is EASY. Several have alluded to it or given examples. There are thousands of essential businesses operating every day, RIGHT NOW. We use social distancing guidelines at our company, at our customer counters for pick up of materials, etc. However, we touch things regularly, have discussions, pretty normal stuff. We wash hands far better than ever. Our people aren’t dropping, none diagnosed or even sick with anything to date.

OPEN THIS NATION UP MR. PRESIDENT. MAY 1ST! Take May Day away from the communists. Get Republican led states to get on board. Hopefully the people suffering under Dim states will see we are free and demand their own release from bondage.

I’m not sure exactly what you’re referring to, maybe flu deaths? They’re dropping because people are staying separated much more, kids aren’t in school, people aren’t in their workplaces, etc. The same would be true of any illness or injury that would drop because of these changes in behavior. There’s no mystery or conspiracy here. I’m on the road probably 1/3 normal, combined with fewer other people on the roads, it drops my accident risk significantly.

Total YTD deaths (all deaths, not just China Flu) in the 75+ age group vs. a normal year have been reduced by 30K, despite them being hit hardest by the virus. Last time I checked, they don’t travel much even in good times. Since months ago the numbers continue to not add up.

The H1N1 vaccine in 2009 helped to tamp down the spread of that virus and cause the infection rate to drop precipitously.

Also, it’s been proven that even if vaccines don’t provide 100% protection because viruses have mutated, they can still provide significant partial protection.

      Vaccines work.

Not one word of what you just wrote is accurate. Vaccines are not like an antibiotic. They can’t partially reduce the infection. Nor is that their purpose. They either prevent the host from becoming infected or they don’t. There is no in between. The flu vaccine has been very ineffective overall, according to the CDC’s own data.

Yes they can. If the virus mutates so the vaccine isn’t 100% effective, it can still provide some protection and lessen symptoms. This is because the mutations are often minimal and the antibodies you produce to fight off the virus in the vaccine are still good enough to help you fight the mutated virus. This has already been proven. Try to keep up.

The flu vaccine is NOT ineffective. It typically provides >50% protection. Some years more than that, some years less, it all depends on the mutations and whether or not the predicted viruses are the predominant ones the next season.

I swear a lot of you need better science education. The lack of it is a problem.

ALL of these agencies need to hire the tech people from Amazon, Ebay, Etsy and the other E-commerce sites asap.
Think about how complex the average Ebay transaction is for example- you can buy something from anywhere in the world, pay for it and arrange to have it delivered to your doorstep in less than 5 minutes.
Our Govt. agencies can’t even process a basic form that could be printed out and snail mailed in less time than it takes for them to deal with it online.

        • Are you kidding me? My 401k has taken a massive hit and much of the money in there is money that I contributed from MY paycheck. That is MY money and the gains that I had made off of MY money. I am 61 years old. How much time do you think that I have left in my working years to get that money back? So I am ecstatic to hear that the Stock Market is making gains again.
Not all of us working stiffs are just paycheck-to-paycheck types. Many of us have access to 401kl’s. Why the contempt for us? Why not be happy that maybe I won’t have to work until I am 75 to make up for what the ChiComs, MSM, and commie-dems have done for us?
I think that you have forgotten that the middle class has been stomped upon by the Globalists for the last 40 years. Most of my working life has been spent watching the wealth of this country being taken from the middle class and exported to anyone willing to bribe a member of Congress.
All the while the elites have allowed the Chinese to buy up the real estate in this country so that even housing is massively overpriced. They sold us out.
They kept all of the low paying jobs in this country. Just the good ones were stolen from us.

Utter garbage. We no longer have a free market if it’s never allowed to significantly drop. FED intervention is the only reason why the market is up, and in the long run this policy will be a disaster – but keep touting stock prices as a measure of success.

They aren’t investing in America, they are investing in shares of American-based multinationals at an artificially inflated price. Many of these companies should’ve been “allowed” to fail. Or are you telling me air travel would cease to exist if United went under?

When the patient has serious symptoms that are clearly turning into viral pneumonia, then “you can see the whites of their eyes.” That’s when you let go with the big guns.

If we carpeted the world with “prophylactic treatments” when there is nothing to treat, we could encourage the proliferation of viral strains which have naturally (and, randomly) acquired resistance to the treatment. Because the susceptible strains would be killed off, leaving the others. This is how we got MRSA – a staph aureus that right now only one antibiotic can kill.

It’s Bullshit they are being blocked by the States. Even Dr. faki finally said the right thing the other night at a briefing that any and all Medical Doctors have the authority to prescribe Hydroxychloroquine to their patients if they see fit to do so to treat corona virus. The States should be sued ASAP to change their disgusting “rules” which say only allowed to be prescribes in a hospital setting.

So to cover-up for their terrible decision making they are changing the rules…

I will maintain – maybe against my better cynicism – that the President’s advisors gave him the best available information, in good faith. Not only the USA but many nations around the world responded in this way, rightly or wrongly. (I think, “wrongly.”)

Early in the year, when these decisions were made, we did not and could not know what we know now. But, his advisors (and others throughout the world) felt very urgently that they had to be made. That time was of the essence. Rightly or wrongly.

PDJT then did what his Office requires him to do: he made an executive command decision. Rightly or wrongly. (I think, “wrongly.” But it was not my decision to make.)

His stock market Tweet earlier today was the worst, basically giving a middle finger to the 20,000,000 Americans newly unemployed. What’s up? Does he want to lose in November?

I find it extremely curious that any conservative or libertarian thinker familiar with actual real-world economics would imagine that concern for the stock market does not apply, and with great impact, to the “working men and women who put him (our President) in office.”

In fact it is a well-known leftist fallacy and lie that the stock market is “for billionaires.” That’s something that only they think and use to brainwash their foolish followers.

I therefore draw the obvious conclusion about this now-repeated comment. I leave it to others to draw their own.

      • Please stop it with your contempt for working people who have 401k’s. We also voted for candidate Trump and appreciate seeing our retirement plans going up in value. You are promoting a false stereotype that only billionaires have money in the stock market. I can only assume that you are repeated and purposely lying about who has money in the stock market in order to turn people against President Trump as if that would happen.

At least while I’m stuck at home and furloughed from my job I can make money in the stock market. That makes me feel better. Don’t you want those of us with 401k’s to feel better?

How does a “common cold” spread thru 190 countries so fast and all at once? If I heard correctly at yesterdays presser, President Trump is thinking about drawing COVID-19 titers for immunity/infection on the work force. Hep-C, Hep-B, HIV are all “Standard Precautions only” which mean gloves when working with body fluids. Most Americans are not required to have those titers pulled unless it is a rule out or again people in the healthcare industry. There is something about this, as others have called COVID-19, just a cold. President Trump is well connected and IMO have talked to other experts besides the 2 on his task force. VP Pence has looked very grim these last couple of pressers IMO. The more I read on the specific molecular structure of COVID-19 the more I think there is something different about it. (End of Rant)

Coronaviruses and rhinoviruses are very “virulent,” as we all have seen during “cold season.” The obvious concern was that a strain had developed which was also deadly. It certainly can – and did – spread through hundreds of countries and even to #10 Downing Street. But it didn’t consistently kill people.

There are those who suspect that there were several strains – COVID-19a, b, c, d – and that virulent and aggressive strains might not have truly originated in Wuhan Province, China.

So, the worldwide public health response, draconian though it was, might very-genuinely have been thought to be absolutely necessary. I choose to believe that both the President and his medical advisors acted in good faith, based on best available information and forecasts at that time. Had these predictions been correct, they would have been.

Epidemiology is not an exact science. There’s an awful lot that we still don’t know. And, testing is also not an exact science. We are actually looking for RNA strands that we think are distinctive. “Antibody tests” are even more vague.
