Thursday December 5th – Open Thread

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Anyone else see the movie The Irishman? Worst movie I have seen in years. Completely mis-cast with 75 year old De Niro trying to play a 35 year old tough guy, and Irish at that. Nothing about the movie was believable. Don’t waste your time.

BF finished watching it tonight. I was listening from the next room – it sounded like a bad takeoff on a Scorsese movie. Just awful. Fascinating characters and story waiting for the right storyteller. Perhaps the people who did the superb “Black Mass” (co-produced by Steve Mnuchin!).

Agree. It was a poorly acted, directed, and produced film. It almost looked to me as if Frank Sheehan’s disaffected daughter wrote the screenplay because she believes her dad killed her sugar daddy . . .

Happy Cursday, Treepers! This is a perfect Cursday story, I think. Pit Bulls are unfairly maligned and irrationally feared by too many people. Tonight I was at a friend’s house. They have a Pit Bull foundling. Although she came for a very rough background where she was both neglected and mistreated, with a little love from my friends she transformed into the sweetest, most loving dog you could ever imagine. Pit Bulls are not dumb and, given half a chance can become perfect companions. Sadly, they are the most frequently euthanized shelter dogs. This story, however, is about a tiny little girl who, on her own, connected with a scared and lonely abandoned Pit Bull. The result is a wonderful love story . . .

    Alienation And Reconciliation

    By Pastor Cornelius R. Stam

It is impossible, and unnecessary, to reconcile friends. Reconciliation postulates alienation. It is only after men become alienated that we may try to reconcile them. Thus the reconciliation of Jews and Gentiles to God “in one body” could not begin until Israel, along with the Gentiles, had been alienated from God. This is why the Apostle Paul declares in Rom. 11:15 that “the casting away of them is,” or opens the way for, “the reconciling of the world.” Thus “God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that He might have mercy upon all” (Rom. 11:32). Little wonder the Apostle goes on to exclaim:

“O, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out!” (Ver. 33).

So now the wonderful message from God to a lost world is one of grace and peace, and it is with these words that the Apostle Paul opens all of his epistles signed by his name. In Ephesians 2, where he declares that we were all “the children of disobedience,” and therefore “by nature the children of wrath,” he goes on to tell of the riches of God’s mercy and love and grace, and says:

“And [He] came and preached peace to you [Gentiles] which were afar off, and to them [Israelites] that were nigh” (Ver. 17).

What a blessing to enjoy peace with God, to be reconciled to Him! But this is possible only as we commit ourselves to Him who was “delivered for our offences and raised again for our justification.” Indeed, Paul follows these words in Romans 4:25 with the declaration:

“Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Rom. 5:1).

This video of the “Tusk” band rehearsal was show on another Treepers thread. At about the 1.14 or so point in the video we’ll see Stevie Nicks doing some pretty doggone good baton twirling. So was Stevie a cheerleader? Dunno about that, but her performance deserves another viewing.

GH, I think you really meant to ask “Was Stevie Nicks a Majorette?” 🙂

I don’t know whether she was – but she’s obviously had lessons.

I will tell you that back in my high school days, I took baton twirling lessons, including marching, twirling fire batons, etc. – hoping to make it as a majorette (they wore the cutest uniforms).

But unfortunately, I didn’t do too well at majorette tryouts. So, I tried out for cheerleading, instead (had the right skills for cheerleading) and I did make the cheerleading team, instead.

I don’t know about Stevie Nicks – maybe she took baton lessons (sure looks like it) – but never actually made it as a Majorette? Maybe that’s why we don’t hear about her being a Majorette? But yes, she looked really, really good!

So, I don’t know whether she ever was a majorette or a cheerleader – but you don’t have to know how to twirl a baton to be a cheerleader – you need a different set of skills – more gymnastics-oriented.

“Only in the throne will I be greater than thou.” Genesis xli. 40

I have to account to God for the way in which I rule my body under His domination. Paul said he did not “frustrate the grace of God” – make it of no effect. The grace of God is absolute, the salvation of Jesus is perfect, it is done forever. I am not being saved, I am saved; salvation is as eternal as God’s throne; the thing for me to do is to work out what God works in. “Work out your own salvation,” I am responsible for doing it. It means that I have to manifest in this body the life of the Lord Jesus, not mystically, but really and emphatically. “I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection.” Every saint can have this body under absolute control for God. God has made us to have government over all the temple of the Holy Spirit, over imaginations and affections. We are responsible for these, and we must never give way to inordinate affections. Most of us are much sterner with others than we are in regard to ourselves; we make excuses for things in ourselves whilst we condemn in others things to which we are not naturally inclined.

“I beseech you,” says Paul, “present your bodies a living sacrifice.” The point to decide is this – ‘Do I agree with my Lord and Master that my body shall be His temple?’ If so, then for me the whole of the law for the body is summed up in this revelation, that my body is the temple of the Holy Ghost.

Half a brain, half a brain, half a brain onward.

They could see the guns, that day on Oct. 25th 1854. The Dragoons must have wondered as they spurred their horses into a frontal assault what their leaders were thinking. Miscommunication between Lord Raglan in the chain of command and the brigade, that was supposed to hit a soft objective and recover guns, was sent into withering fire and destroyed.

Over the last 4 weeks, Democrat leadership in the House Of Representatives seem to be on a suicide mission. At least the English made mistakes in the heat of battle. The strategy worked out by the big thinkers in the House, over the last month is astonishing in it’s seemingly self destructive intent.

Today’s hearings, will be interpreted by both sides as a win. No doubt, those in the Silo on the Left, will remain convinced of the President’s perfidy and malfeasance, while those in the Silo on the Right, will disagree.

What about the middle, the unconvinced, or, those whose cursory knowledge of current events is superseded by every day exigencies?

There is no clear winner at this point in what is categorically an effort to win over public opinion and damage, or remove the President. What could change this?

    1) A Senate Trial. Even if you are as obtuse as Eric Swalwell, you have to admit, that the reversal of the process that just took place, in the House, in a “Trial” in the Senate, with Mitch McConnell in charge, will be devastating. Adam Schiff will be a witness. The Bidens will have to testify. The list of witnesses, with culpability relating to activities over the last 3 years should terrify the House Leadership as they cruise over the cliff, ala Thelma Pelosi and Louise Schiff.

    2) In conjunction with this nightmare, the IG Report on the illegal criminality of the FBI, CIA, State Department etc. is due out and will be an ongoing discussion in the media and, on the floor of the Senate, DURING THE TRIAL. Again, remember, this is an effort, not only to unseat the President, but, barring that, damage the President prior to next year’s election.

    3) In conjunction with the previous 2 nightmares, Prosecutor Durham in my opinion, will indict, over the next 3 to 6 months, during the Trial, Deep State Actors who are neck deep in premeditated criminality. This will, in no way, damage the President and in fact, will make him unbeatable in the coming election.

Obviously, I support President Trump and, as a Trump supporter I really, really hope, The House votes to Impeach him.
    Think about that.

Any indictments will only work if Trump and Republicans win in November. There’s enough time, and Obama appointed judges, to delay any substantive legal actions until after November and if the Democrats do win the WH those trials will evaporate like alcohol on a hotplate.

Then again if the Rats take the WH the Swamp trials will be the least of our problems.

    To Ponder

Let me ponder on the wondrous creation of the world (Genesis 1):

    1. How God planted a garden in Eden in the east, and placed man in it.
    2. How God made trees that are pleasant to the sight and good for food.
    3. How God brought all the animals before man, and he named them.

I just saw Pelosi’s answer to the reporter asking about hating Trump. Has she had a stroke? Slurred speech and only using one arm. RARELY do people who get animated only use one arm to talk! Or am I missing something?

    • TheLastDemocrat says:

Wow. That is weird. Ol’ Bob-Dole-Arm, people are gonna start calling her.

Even when she does flop her left arm up, to the right, to adjust the bracelets, that go right back to where they were, and she flops her left arm on the podium where it remains like a smoked-cheese log waiting for the guests to arrive, it is weird – she holds her right hand out like she is checking her watch to see what time it is.

[On top of that: there is plenty of criticism and questioning about whether Trump is genuinely a Christian – hey we may never know about anyone – but Trump does not quite have the ugly anti-Christian record that Peligrosi has – abortion, and who can get married, etc. Yet she wraps herself in the “Catholic” banner pretty quickly.]

    • TheLastDemocrat says:

Things may be a bit odd on the actual podium press announcement video – posted here. She gets to the podium and folds her hands straight out. But you cannot see them. At 1’42” she folds her hands, and there is almost no movement for the rest of the clip. You can see her left thumb. At about 1’55” and a few seconds after that you can see her right thumb move (moving into the frame of the camera view ) like most people do when speaking. But the left thumb does not move. Weird.

Also – I looked on you tubes – I could find no versions where her hands are visible. Fox and this clip from WaPo show thumbs; others have the frame even higher, although they may be from the same feed – frame of view may have been adjusted. Are they all covering for her disability?

      • Phil says:

Okay, so now you have aroused my curiosity. I went back and looked at a couple clips of her also. Clapping at the State of the Union, a meeting at the Oval Office and a Georgetown video. Definitely has changed. Interestingly enough she use to wear her watch on her left arm. Now it is on her right!!! Who does that later in life? The clip above from Dogsmaw shows her fideling with her ring (sort of hiding a disability)? Interesting. Just out of curiosity – what are the prerequisites to determine if you are competent to be the House leader? Oh never mind, I am sure there aren’t any. Who is next in line to be Speaker?

      • TheLastDemocrat says:

This is a more complete video. She uses right arm, with left being still, then has 2 distinct minutes of using her left arm, then goes back to right. It looks purposeful to avoid anyone noting that the left is unused. ]Also, you cannot see what the left hand is doing much of the time because the CNN logo covers it.]

You ain’t gonna find anything like this from the USDA, it’s more politically than user driven and has been ignoring the plight of border farmers/ranchers for decades.
