Sunday August 18th – Open Thread

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

  1. Rick Steves……….. Anyone see his latest screed paid for in part by our tax $$$$$ ?
He all but calls our VSGPDJT a facist and misnames our country as a “Democracy ”
The libs think they are so clever and O so much smarter than us President Trump supporters that they can mask the true goal they have to march on towards communism without our noticing.
I used to like his show and have used his travel advice in the past as Mrs. Coveyouthband does food tours in Italy, but check this out. It is scary and appalling he would go out on this limb. His series and book is “Traveling with politics” or something along those lines.
They really think we are stupid.

Steves is one of the many hundreds of celebrities and wannabes we’ll be hearing from every day until President Trump wins again on November 3, 2020.

Much cash will be floating around from various hate-filled groups, TDS Never-Trumpers, and leftie individuals. They’ll give out with every sort of misinformation, disinformation and lies they think will influence the brainwashed and gullible to vote for one of the losers running on the Dem side.

They may think we’re stupid, but that won’t stop us from working hard to win a second term for our President. We will, indeed, KEEP AMERICA GREAT!

    The Forgiveness Of Sins

Some three thousand years ago, and about one thousand years before Christ, the Psalmist said:

“If Thou, Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with Thee…” (Psa. 130:3,4).

The Psalmist did not explain, however, upon what basis a just and holy God could forgive a guilty sinner. This was to be proclaimed one thousand years later by the Apostle Paul, himself once “a blasphemer, and a persecutor and injurious”; the “chief” of sinners, but forgiven and saved by the infinite grace of God (Tim. 1:13-15).

Preaching Christ at Antioch, in the province of Pisidia, Paul declared:

But even this does not fully answer our question, for we must still ask: On what basis does God forgive sins through “this Man”? The answer is: on the basis of His payment for our sins on Calvary’s cross. Thus the Apostle wrote to the Romans, explaining how we may be…

“…justified freely by His [God’s] grace, THROUGH THE REDEMPTION THAT IS IN CHRIST JESUS” (Rom. 3:24).

Now, thank God, through Christ’s finished work, there is not a sinner who needs to remain unforgiven, for:

“In [Christ] we have redemption, through His blood, THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS ACCORDING TO THE RICHES OF HIS GRACE” (Eph. 1:7).

    By Pastor Cornelius R. Stam

Psalm 130:3 If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?
4 But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.

1 Timothy 1:13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
14 And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

Acts13:38 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:
39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

Romans 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

    1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

The left-wing nuts are still pushing for ‘forgiving college debt’ … wonder who is going to be first in line to have their college debts forgiven?

‘The Student Debt You Willing Took On Is Not My Problem’
    — The size of student debt provides the jolt necessary to peddle their plans to the American Populace. “I got $100,000 in student debt myself,” California Rep. Eric Swalwell bemoaned. “College affordability is personal for us,” South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg shared, noting that his household has “six-figure student debt.” So, sure, “I believe in reducing student debt,” Buttigieg announced.

‘Buttigieg’s High College Debt Draws Attention To The Issue – Student Loan Debt’
–Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg knows first hand the burden of six-figure student loan debt. He and his husband, Chasten, are far from alone, though, and their personal college indebtedness is helping to keep the issue on the national stage.
    — With loans totaling more than $130,000, they are among the 43 million people in the United States who owe federal student loan debt.

And what about those who actually worked their way through college?
And the even more foolish parents who paid for their kids?
And why compete to earn scholarships or fellowships?

Mine was a combination of all three.
ROTC scholarship with parents paying rent.
Dropped out and worked, building up savings.
Used savings and lived at home, working summers.
And lived in dorm the final year, working during year.
Then graduate school started off with initial scholarship and fellowship in lieu of a teaching assistantship, and moved to research assistantship.

I escaped without big debt. But then I foolishly married and divorced, finding myself mired in debt by the end. But not 12 years worth of student loan debt.

Funny thing, after never getting a student loan, I still get harrassed by loan collectors for student loan debt. Once, even had to prove I never had a loan. Still have to constantly hang up on the bums.

As my father was in the Air Force and I wasn’t scholarship material I paid for most of my undergrad with Vietnam though I did have some loans – all of which I paid back. My MBA I paid for be being back on active duty – government paid for my tuition, I paid for books and agreed to stay on active duty for a prescribed time.

It seems that paying for education, even the heavily dumbed-down excuse for it we have now, is out of fashion. Now everyone, irrespective of the ability to compete in a university environment, seems to have an unwritten ‘right’ to a free (i.e., they don’t pay for it, we do) shot at wasting a seat in a university.

Hmmm, didn’t folks accuse President Trump of illegal profits? Case thrown out as complete BS. All hopes and projections and misinterpretation and false accusations.

Yet, isn’t getting a reduction in debt a personal benefit for a politician while in office, which would make any politician voting for a personal windfall unethical and in many cases illegal. ?!

So, Lily White Boys ain’t so clean underneath?

    How to get humbled.

Busy day today so instead of cooking I went to a small. rural, local catfish restaurant to pick up some take home dinners. There was a small crowd of us there waiting, takeout is popular, and I couldn’t help but notice a young man about 15. His skin had a washed-out pallor and he was completely bald except for a few very light wisps of hair. He screamed cancer patient.

It was spitting rain so before I left the house I put on my ’18th Airborne Corps’ ball cap and was wearing it while I was standing in the crowd. The young man noticed me, said something to his dad, then walked over to me, shook my hand and said “thank you for your service”. Now here’s a kid going through more than I ever did and he’s thanking me. I said ‘thanks’ but it just didn’t seem to be enough.

I was telling my nephew about William Manchester’s brilliant biography of the great Winston Churchill, “The Last Lion.” If you love history, and Western civilization, this is a Must Read.

Here, Manchester writes about the eve of World War II, and Churchill, 67 years old, about to take the helm of the ship of state:

“England’s new leader…would have to be a passionate Manichaean who saw the world as a medieval struggle to the death between the powers of good and the powers of evil, who held that individuals are responsible for their actions and that the German dictator was therefore wicked.

“A believer in martial glory was required, one who saw splendor in the ancient parades of victorious legions through Persepolis and could rally the nation to brave the coming German fury.

“An embodiment of fading Victorian standards was wanted: a tribune for honor, loyalty, duty, and the supreme virtue of action; one who would never compromise with iniquity, who could create a sublime mood and thus give men heroic visions of what they were and might become.

“Like Adolf Hitler he would have to be a leader of intuitive genius, a born demagogue in the original sense of the word, a believer in the supremacy of his race and his national destiny, an artist who knew how to gather the blazing light of history into his prism and then distort it to his ends, an embodiment of inflexible resolution who could impose his will and his imagination on his people…

“Such a man, if he existed, would be England’s last chance…”

Posted on August 10, 2019 by Scott Johnson

The Hoover Institution’s Peter Robinson convened an all-star panel of historians to discuss something like the grand strategy of the allies in World War II. Included on the panel ore Stalin biographer Stephen Kotkin, Roosevelt expert David Kennedy, and Churchill biographer Andrew Roberts. This is an exhilarating discussion from beginning to end. Having now taken it in its entirety, I recommend it for the sheer pleasure of the thing — although it is certainly pertinent to current events, as comes through especially in the last ten minutes or so of the discussion.

American friends. News from Israel that you won’t see Internationally. So today Hamas fired rockets at the south of Israel and Iron Dome defense system intercepted the rockets. Yet this was a distraction because at the same time a relatively a large unit of terrorist of Hamas and Islamic Jihad emerged from a tunnel (I think 13 terrorists) dressed in Israeli Defense Forces uniforms. Israel’s young female soldiers on the monitors detected them and sent an alert to the Golani Unit of The IDF (Israel Defense Force). The number is not clear yet but about five terrorists were killed and the rest fled back into the tunnel back to Gaza. This happened also earlier this month and the same Golani unit now killed a total of about 13 terrorists this month with no casualties to themselves. This is an explosive situation because it’s election time and Netanyahu can’t look weak. I am posting here a video about this Golani unit. Golani is a large brigade and the video is about their scout unit that are their best.

Great news! Bad potential, the evil purpose, thwarted by good people.

Even as some are fooled by slick words and altered photos, many more people are beginning to see through the deception and vast majority of Americans support Israel against its attackers. Be careful about CNN manipulation of news and interference in Israel elections: yesterday they were making specific calls, in guise of ‘news’ for Americans to call on Israelis to oppose Netanyahu and President Trump. They have no problem with violating laws and ethics and distorting headlines and news. Do you have any government watchdog to prevent foreign interference in your elections and use of false news as propaganda?
The Sharia Squad in Congress is out to turn the Democratic Party against Israel- instead it’s time for Jews and other supporters of Israel to leave the Democrat Party in US as it becomes like the Labour Party.

Thank you for the love and understanding. Israelis know about CNN and their BBC friends from the UK.
Israel has its own Liberal networks who are bad enough. It is a Liberal way of operation to take over media, legal, education. Israel has now been Conservative for more than a decade and it’s gradually changing but it’s not easy to break the Socialist liberal grip.
The good news is that by surveys it shows the young generation to be even more conservative. Israelis detect and reject left wing media articles.
The Jewish population has about a 70/30 ratio between conservative to liberals but the Arab population goes with the liberals. Still the conservatives are usually winning. Obama had election professionals and money interfere in the elections. This is known and there was a law that demands transparency of election finances. Right now the main opposing party has employed also a Democrat expert for elections.
This elections will be tight. We will see. The opposition party pretends to be not Liberal and have some non liberals but they are still liberals overall.
        Take care.

“And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.” Luke xviii. 23

The rich young ruler went away expressionless with sorrow; he had not a word to say. He had no doubt as to what Jesus said, no debate as to what it meant, and it produced in him a sorrow that had not any words. Have you ever been there? Has God’s word come to you about something you are very rich in – temperament, personal affinity, relationships of heart and mind? Then you have often been expressionless with sorrow. The Lord will not go after you, He will not plead, but every time He meets you on that point He will simply repeat – If you mean what you say, those are the conditions.

“Sell all that thou hast,” undress yourself morally before God of everything that might be a possession until you are a mere conscious human being, and then give God that. That is where the battle is fought – in the domain of the will before God. Are you more devoted to your idea of what Jesus wants than to Himself? If so, you are likely to hear one of His hard sayings that will produce sorrow in you. What Jesus says is hard, it is only easy when it is heard by those who have His disposition. Beware of allowing anything to soften a hard word of Jesus Christ’s.

I can be so rich in poverty, so rich in the consciousness that I am nobody, that I shall never be a disciple of Jesus; and I can be so rich in the consciousness that I am somebody that I shall never be a disciple. Am I willing to be destitute of the sense that I am destitute? This is where discouragement comes in. Discouragement is disenchanted self-love, and self-love may be love of my devotion to Jesus.
