Here is where absolutism goes wrong — even for a very, very good cause. Rape and incest should not be included within the ban if the pregnancy can be ended by the first quarter.

The rape and incest provisions are red herrings. Abortions done because of rape or incest amount to less than 1% of all abortions. They are used as a cudgel to paint all laws against abortion as heartless. Don’t fall for it. Similar with “for the health of the mother”. Yes, sometimes a birth is accelerated to save a woman’s life, but the life of the baby is preserved whenever possible. There is rarely a reason to intentionally kill the baby to save the mother. I would say “no reason”, but I can’t rule out some obscure and unusual reason why it would be necessary.

On a moral level you are absolutely correct, 100% and I totally agree. Yet, in a legal sense this sets the Alabama law directly against the “moralizing rationale” used to supplement the “equal access” legal rationale used to support Roe v Wade. So, this one is destined for the courts and will be starting at a legal disadvantage.

The legal battle over this law will end up on the desk of Justice Roberts and I hope he does not use these inclusions against putting this case on the docket of the Supreme Court.

The baby should not be executed because his mother was raped or his father was related to his mother. The mother should be helped through the pregnancy (and many, many people are willing to help mothers in this situation) and then the baby born and if the mother cannot keep the baby, then the baby can be adopted (by the many, many willing parents out there who want to adopt). No baby should be executed for crimes they did not commit. Choose life.

A woman who is raped can still get a morning after pill so she will not be forced to carry the baby. A good thing is it will encourage women who are raped to seek immediate medical care.

In this law, it does not seem like a good idea to only allow for a rape exemption as it would provide a huge incentive for a desperate girl, past the point of a morning after pill to falsely accuse someone of rape. With DNA, it’s an easy conviction.

      • I believe this bill was written this way on purpose because the Alabama legislature wants it to go all the way to the Supreme court.

Alabama wrote this bill as a “civil rights bill” to give the right to life to the child in the womb.

Either the child is protected as a human being from conception or it is not.

The Supreme Court will soon be in the uncomfortable position as to declaring the unborn as “not human” and Alabama is betting that they will not do so.

Alabama is saying there are no half measures no killing the child if any of the following rape, incest, the mother does not want the child, the fetus is under three months etc.

An unborn human has rights or an unborn human does not.

Victims of rape and incest shouldn’t be forced to carry through with pregnancies. Terminations could be performed at the earliest stage. Let’s not punish real victims. Please remember that some of these victims are very young. Let’s just prevent lazy/careless women from using abortion as birth control. That could cut down abortions to a tiny fraction of the number that are performed currently.

You can safely bet this state law issue will go to the U.S. Surpreme Court to be decided there once again. I’d like to see SCOTUS decide in favor of States’ Rights and send it back to the lower courts.
If a woman living in Alabama wants a surgical abortion, she can simply travel to another state that allows it.
I think the abortion issue should be left up to each state to decide.

We have no right to take an innocent human life, no matter how it came to be. I watched a film about a young woman conceived thru rape; THEIR lives are the issue. She was adopted, and travels the country telling her story. And it is so powerful.

            • PInky, how many of us here are old enough to remember the arguments that surrounded the original Roe vs Wade court case.

I do, way way back then the emotional case was made very well for the victims of an unwanted pregnancy due to rape, incest or just wanting to have a good time without the consequences “like the guys can have”.

You know how Feminism was on the rise back then, “no one had a right to tell another woman what to do with HER body”.

All of the emphasis was on the human woman and her rights, the child had no one to speak for him/her.

Way, way back in the dark ages (1970’s) when birth control was expensive and difficult to obtain.

              Abortion became birth control.

Now birth control is handed out in junior high schools like candy but we are told that abortion must still be made free and easy.

Now the human infant in the womb has someone speaking for him/her and the abortion lobby is terrified.

They have very successfully turned the human infant into a non-human devoid of rights.

They will pull out all the stops and rage far, far into their Night of Hell to keep their propaganda machine going.

You can be right all you want, but you’re insuring, with that stand about rape, that abortions will continue to be legal for all reasons in almost every state in the union, forever.

You can be right but unpersuasive. Being unpersuasive means being unsuccessful in your campaign.

Rapists are violent men. I am not talking about young women who cry “rape” because they had too much to drink at a party, let a guy sweet talk them or take advantage of them and then cry “rape” out of embarrassment. I am talking rape.

You are trying to impose absolutism in this matter as if human beings were all logic and no emotion when we know the brain is an organ that functions in both ways.

So, let me lay some LOGIC on you if you feel your absolutism is the only conclusion one can reach logically, keeping in mind the whole time the violent nature of a rapist. Logic says it would be repulsive to be forced to carry that which was born of violence. Logic says the offspring of the rapist, who genes will be half that of the rapist, has a significant chance of carrying the traits that the father to perform rape.

Biological reality is such that yes, offspring DO INDEED have behavioral traits of both their father and mother.

And one thing the absolutists are forgetting in the case of rape is many unwanted pregnancies are the result of incest. Unfortunately it does happen and it happens way too often, considering it shouldn’t happen at all. But it does.
I think forcing a young daughter to carry a baby conceived by incestuous rape (all underage sex is a form of rape) is cruel. If the morning after pill doesn’t work, then she should have the right to have an abortion in the first trimester. After that, all bets are off and she can just carry it to term and adopt the baby out if she desires. Three months should be plenty of time to decide what to do, IMO.

“Trump also threatened to place tariffs on the other Chinese goods being imported each year into the United States. This gives the U.S. leverage that China can’t match. As a result of its mercantilist strategy, China exported $540 billion worth of goods to the U.S. but only let $121 billion worth of U.S. goods into China in 2018. I like how you specifically included/linked Biden into the Bush/Clinton/Bush/Obama trade policies. Correct and needed. People need to vote with their eyes wide open, completely “red pilled”. Romney & Ryan belong in the same camp as is proven by Ryan rumored/reported to be the next COC president. DiFi subscribes to the same policies and her husband has become wealthy by them, from my understanding.

I would find it interesting to chart or venn diagram the policies and their supporters. I think this would show the Uniparty is all on one side and it doesn’t favor the US workers!

Think of Romney for what he was at the height o0f his business career. Think Bain Capital and the vulture strategy to purchase a large and struggling company. Mittens would then strip the company of any cash and assets for personal gain. “Creative destruction” was the buzz word of the day. The shell would then be forced into bankruptcy to “reorganize” or more accurately disavow any previous debt before re emerging as a new business.

Mittens basically accepted the hollowing out of large companies by globalist predators and became a scavenger. Cayman Island bank accounts and no loss of jobs and capital for companies and employees and cities.

Contrast POTUS Trump’s efforts to re structure the international business environment so entrepreneurs at the start up level can reconstitute USA business. The stark difference between the vulture Mittens and Trump providing a structure for business to bloom anew becomes apparent.

However, the DM has become a Trump-HATING, LGBTQqueer, rag. Every day … there are FAKE news stories about how awful MY President is. For ex. today’s FAKE Trump story is about how residents are selling their Trump Tower condos at a LOSS … because the Trump name and location has harmed their value. Of course, the article FAILED to reveal the overall NYC tax flight which is depressing the prices of ALL high end real estate. Typical make-believe DM anti-Trump tripe.

And I was permanently banned from making comments because I questioned why a lesbian kiss between Abby Wambach and her wife was more newsworthy than a kiss between Alex Morgan and her boyfriend. The DM is run by the Gaysteppo.

And starting with the 2016 election, the comments became overrun by Soros-funded bots flooding the comments with literally 10,000 comments supporting HER and mocking Trump. Having read the comments for years … this pattern was laughingly FAKE based on long experience. But the DM did NOTHING to purge thes bot-comments. It didn’t work. The People still elected Trump. And now we have all the social media GIANTS doing the same thing … attempting to drown out pro-Trump, pro-Consrvative, pro-America voices on their platforms. Pro tip: killing Free Speech won’t work.

FTA – Going back to the Humphrey-Mondale tradition represented by Klobuchar (also a senator from Minnesota), or the Clinton-Obama Democrats without the Clintons or Obamas, Biden will avoid a disaster at the polls: All good Democrats and the bipartisan Trump-haters could vote for either, but they won’t be a majority. Answering the sirens on the left and nominating Sanders or a kindred leftist spirit, however, would enable Trump to surpass Richard Nixon’s record plurality of 18 million in 1972 (in an electorate of 77 million, against next year’s likely 140 million). Apart from working out where the party is and what it seeks, the Democrats are going to have to come to grips with three facts that, combined, should make this president insuperable in 2020.

The first is that he will have the comparative moral high ground once the investigation of the Clinton campaign gets going.

The second important fact to consider in the electoral equation is that this president is a fierce combatant.

The last fact that the Democrats have not begun to deal with in the effort to unseat the president is his extraordinary success.

The only logical thing I can think of, is when he went to visit the FBI and they changed his mind originally, they may have fed him doctored portions of the information at the time. So in his professional opinion, at that time, he may have thought they did the right thing.

At least that’s the only logical explanation I can think of. Either that or they black mailed him like Roberts, Nap and Romney…

Only if they sense that the election is winnable. Otherwise, they will save her for 2024 where Donald Trump will no longer be on the ballot. Instead, they will use the 2020 election for manipulating their internal housekeeping.

The (currently in-power) Dems have two goals at present: winning the Presidency is something they’d like to do, but suppressing their internal hard-left revolt is something they must do, even at the cost of not winning the Presidency. I believe that all of their decisions will be viewed through that lens.

That internal revolt is the result of two things Cankles did. She used Bernie to lift up and support these far lefties. And she totally controlled the DNC, appropriating their donations.

The latter effectively destroyed the DNC’s ability to help candidates, so now they can’t control them. Remember, all the post 2016 elections have had the RNC vastly out raising the DNC, but the candidates do well because the past DNC donors gained independence and directly funded Dem candidates. And those candidates vastly outraised the Republican candidates.

So these lefties joined the crowd and formed their own group, found their own donors, and got a bunch of total idiots elected. AOC, Omar and Talib are the front group for the idiots.

And Nancy needed them all to assert any power.

Biden was in NH yesterday. I follow a number of people on FB, many who have high hopes that that Democrats can win over Trump in 2020. I went digging after I read some stuff that wasn’t to nice about Joe. That his time is past, he seemed unprepared and wandered and couldn’t/wouldn’t go in depth on anything. Several said the less he’s seen the better he’ll do compared to some of the younger firebrands.

This is a quote from a story that sums up many people’s feeling about how Biden did:

In Nashua, John Mara, a 65-year-old retired management consultant, was even more critical, characterizing Biden’s 15-minute speech and 25-minute Q&A as meandering. Mara said Biden, though “superb” at retail politics, didn’t seem up to the job.

“I think he’s too late,” Mara said. “Frankly, I didn’t think he was that cogent.”

NH is a interesting place. It’s the one place where candidates flock and get lots of face to face contact with voters from now until the Primary. Many people who are really into politics may see 5,6 or even 10+ candidates and interact with them.

Just read the comments after any political New York Times or Washington Post article these Democrats are deranged! Like the woman who told Joe Biden yesterday “He won the election by 70,000 votes in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan. He won it because he had help by the Russians. I don’t want to live in a country run by Vladimir Putin. To avoid officially revealing IN COURT their known use of “parallel construction” to allow desired prosecution results from evidence illegally obtained or obtained by sensitive methods like Five Eyes countries being used in a “you spy on my citizens and I’ll spy on yours” deal to bypass national laws as revealed by Snowden leaks that 99% of people never paid any attention to. FTA – Following the disclosure that US Attorney John Durham has been tasked with investigating and prosecuting potential crimes in the origin of the Russia Hoax, we learned some very encouraging facts that suggest the Russia Hoax will be fully aired and miscreants brought to justice. Like Howie Carr, who had a front-row seat when John Durham went after corruption in the FBI Boston office, I am “cautiously optimistic” (Howie’s term) that Durham and his boss AG Barr want to get to the bottom of the hoax and put those who may have committed crimes in prison.

In Boston, Durham faced a gigantic scandal that was very damaging to the FBI and did not blink. He got John Connelly, Whitey Bulger’s protector, sentenced to 40 years in prison. This does not sound like a prosecutor who can be persuaded to lay off getting to the truth in order to protect the reputations of important people and institutions.
But we must concede that there are plenty of reasons to worry that that the biggest political scandal in American history – the political weaponization of both the federal intelligence and law enforcement communities to spy on political opponents of the sitting president and remove a duly elected president from office – would be swept under the rug. Chandler Worley is a sixth generation farmer in Cerro Gordo. He sells soybeans and corn to China, and said his prices have been slashed in half.
A few years ago he made $16 per bushel of soybeans; now, he makes $8. Worley is also still feeling the effects of last year’s tariffs, and a crop failure thanks to Hurricane Florence.
“I can’t farm another year to break even or lose money,” he said. “I lost enough money last year and I am just scraping things back together to make sure I could go again this year. To be able to get out there and do a really good job, you have to feel like you’re going to make some money, and right now, I see I’m going to work for nothing.”
Despite losing money, Worley said he supports Trump’s goal to get a better trade deal with China. He said the country’s future depends on the best possible trade deal.
“I hope they work out something pretty soon, but I have got a little bit of faith in the president,” Worley said. “He is a businessman. He’s not a politician, so he’s going to get us the best deal possible.”
