Sunday Talks: CBS Attempts Rehabilitation of Virginia Governor Northam….

Everything you need to know about this propaganda is obvious in the first few seconds of the interview with Gayle King: “I know this has been a very difficult week for you and the state of Virginia, so where would you like to begin”…

Obviously there has been a great deal of planning and careful construct for this interview. CBS is openly attempting to rehabilitate Virginia Governor Ralph Northam.  It becomes more obvious as you listen to Northam speak that: (a) he’s an idiot; and, (b) whoever put him into office is not willing to lose their investment.

That was before the Lt. Gov and the AG got into the roil. These were the *1 and 2 positions in line for succession for the Gov job. #3 is a coin flip between leaders of the two Legislative chambers. Both are Republicans.
Do not think that the Dems will ever sack Northam when there is even a chance that the new Gov would be a Republican. Right now, they are working on Northam’s reputation to see if he is salvageable, an option the Republicans never have. They will take their lumps before they will turn the Virginia Gov job over to a Republican when the all important business of Congressional district re-drawing comes up in 2021.
Northam is an idiot, but his party has plans way beyond his tenure.

Historically, he is correct. Slavery was initially restricted to indentured servitude and was temporary ending at a predetermined time at which time the former slave was awarded land and livestock. Slaves were not only black and slavery was not exclusively black at that time. What’s more, the first chattel (complete ownership, no getting out of it legally) was owned by a black, former slave himself and freed after his contract was up, fought in court to keep his slave on a permanent basis and won. (Somehow his race mattered?)

Seems Northam simply likes to tell the truth about things. He told the truth about “making infants comfortable” while a decision is being make to kill it. And he was telling the truth about slavery in this land.

People have this really strange problem with not wanting to hear the truth and prefer to continue believing something other than the truth even when evidence is presented.

If someone here doesn’t believe me, just google search “the first slave owner” and the wikipedia page will pop right up to explain it all to you in detail.

I caught that too. I had to do research on the history of indentured servants for one of my college courses. However, my problem with his opening with the ‘400 years ago, 90 miles from here’ was a way to pander to blacks who don’t know history and have been indoctrinated about white privilege for 60 years. King jumping in with her ‘slavery’ substitute is a perfect example of how ignorant the public is when it comes to history.

      Hey Mikey,
No, because he is a rabid abortionist, and was pushing infanticide; after-birth abortions, here in Virginia. Actually, I consider infanticide to be the killing of any baby in utero, but especially heinous is the killing of the viable infants. Also horrific, is the torture the baby suffers during an abortion. Where’s SCOTUS regarding “cruel and unusual punishment?” They’re too busy adjusting their nice black robes, and under Roberts’ Court, they’re pretending to not be political.

Oh, and Northam’s racial rehab? The “prank” of 25 years ago is a squirrel story, but his racism was alive and well in 2013, when he refused to shake his Black opponent’s hand, and ignored him throughout the Lt. Gov. debate. He’s old school white Democrat, and racist.

There needs to be more than shouting. Otherwise, your shouts of the same would suffice. Voting used to be a very restricted right — moreso than the right to bear arms. It was exclusively only land owning men who were citizens of the country. That was guaranteed the country would not be run by people voting their own raises and kept in office by people being promised free stuff from the government.

Now idiots vastly outnumbering the best of us have changed this country in what can only be stated as predictable ways. There were reasons voting rights were restricted as they were in the first place. Make changes to that and those reasons soon became visible for all to see.

What is needed is more people like Trump to run. And because of WHO votes, and not because of who runs, it necessarily must be someone not just of talent and ability, but someone extraordinaly talent and ability as well as one who is capable of defeating the political-media complex at their own game.

If only it were so simple as saying “enough.”

Meanwhile, decent men and women are, understandably, hesitant to run for public office unless they toe the left’s line — because they know they will have all the cover they need (e.g., media, etc.).

Sorry, my faith for the future of our Nation isn’t found at the polls or through the hope of an individual(s); that’s why I pray to God that he will open enough eyes and touch enough hearts to get us back on track.

I agree with SD that it is the “investors” who wanted to flip both houses of the Virginia legislature behind this move. They include Bloomberg and Soros. I was informed by someone very near the Virginia capital that Northam was bragging recently about all the money coming into the dem races from Soros et. al.
That said, I’m rethinking my earlier conjecture that the Clintons were behind the Northam yearbook page release, the women’s allegations against Fairfax and Herring’s confession. There may be something much larger happening.

Yeah, he called the first slaves “indentured servants from Africa”, his exact words. And he said that to a black female reporter! LOL!

Here’s Google’s answer to the question of indentured servants vs slaves:

“What is the difference between slaves and indentured servants?
Key points: (Servants agreed to work for 4-7 years in exchange for transportation to the colonies. Many different types of people became indentured servants. Slaves were brought to America against their will. Many different types of people were forced into slavery.”

Does he really think slaves from Africa signed contracts? HAHAHAHA!

      Liked by 1 person

      • Daniel says:

No. The contract was made between the slaver and the seller. The law among the colonies prohibited chattel slavery at that time. It was a former black slave who was freed according to the terms of his own agreement who had that changed. He also owned a slave and did not want to release him when his time was up. He fought in court and won permanent ownership of his slave. And since precedent is law, he managed to create a massive industry in this country where it was once effectively limited.

        • andyocoregon says:

Sure, there was a contract between the African slave seller and the slave transporter. But, that’s slavery, pure and simple. Indentured servitude is between those who wanted to come to America and the business owner who used them under contract to do their labor. One is involuntary and the other is voluntary. Huge difference no matter how you wish to spin it.

Instead of pouring into France and Belgium with guns ablazing, they should have sneaked through the woods and begged for asylum in France and Belgium, then once inside, started voting for the Vichy French and Belgians who didn’t mind their being there so long as they personally were safe. It is all about staying in power – so, the guy they were going to throw under the bus last week has suddenly become more palatable than the guy who was supposed to replace him and therefore must now be resurrected as a “good” guy who made a “bad” decision a long time ago.

There is zero consistency in their positions – it’s a herd mentality and Justin Fairfax just found out that he is NOT actually indispensable at all. However it is dumb of him to go down into the intellectual weeds as very few people know the difference between being indentured servants of the 1600’s to mid 1700’s and the slavery of late 1700’s to mid 1800’s.

Depends on who we are talking about.

African slaves and Servants mostly came from Portuguese controlled African ports and the contracts where generally made by ship captains who then sold the contracts to landowners in the colonies.

European indentured servants would generally do this with ship captains as well and depart out of the Dutch or English ports. Some Landowners would also set up contracts for indentured in Europe then pay for them to be sailed across the ocean.

Indentured servants is basically a leftover concept of Serfdom. It was used on Native Americans as well example of this being done more successfully would be the Spanish Colonies Mexico and Cuba.

You might want to check a site called “project1619.org” which says they were captured from a Spanish slave ship by an English privateer ship, and only a few were granted freedom after years of service at Point Comfort. Some of the freed were able to buy freedom for others. Most were never freed. “Never freed” is the definition of slavery, not “indentured service”.

You and me are talking about two different subjects.

What I was talking about is how indentured servitude worked vs slavery and that over time indentured servitude was supplanted by slavery in total.

What you are talking about is the specific first 20 Africans recorded in James Town in 1619. Which showcases the transition I am talking about some being slaves and other being indentured.

I rather end it here now as we are off topic to the thread.

What is the difference between slaves and indentured servants?
Key points: (Servants agreed to work for 4-7 years in exchange for transportation to the colonies. Many different types of people became indentured servants. Slaves were brought to America against their will. Many different types of people were forced into slavery.

The key factor you are missing is that it did NOT require agreement on the part of the slave. That standard was the law of the land at that time. The contract only mattered insomuch as the fact that it established and transferred ownership.

This sort of law-of-the-land limitations on contracts exist today. For example, depending on the state in which you live, the parties who own the debt you owe can do all manner of terrible things to you such as seize everything you own and have your pay garnished. Some states limit this greatly. It does not matter what the contract says. The state has the power to limit such contracts and enforce those limits.

That should reconcile your concern about whether the party was a consenting participant or not. The fact was, it didn’t matter until it hit these shores and at the time, all manner of debt related horrors were possible including “debtors prisons.”

Northam’s inartful “indentured servants from Africa” comment was—arguably—correct, but the guy cannot get out of his own way. It again highlights Northam’s loose connection with common sense.

      From Wikipedia:

“By 1650, there were about 300 Africans living in Virginia, about 1% of an estimated 30,000 population of people of English and European ancestry. They were not slaves but worked as indentured laborers, as did the approximately 4000 white indentured servants[4] working out their loans for passage money to Virginia. Many Africans had earned their freedom, and they were each granted 50 acres (200,000 m2) of land when freed from their indentures, so they could raise their own tobacco or other crops.”

So I’m not a fan of Northam’s but he is reciting basic history.

      • This is correct–the real growth of slavery came from the Caribbean and labor-intensive crops like cotton, indigo, etc.

Conflating indentured servitude with slavery is a mistake as is the typical leftist rewriting of history. There is surely a reason that Wortham is doing this–likely the reparations idea. (Remember my post yesterday about Wortham getting “enlightened” via reading, notably from the reparations advocate Te-Nahisi Coates).

I wonder who is backing him; he would not be still in office if he did not have someone with the bucks behind him. What the heck is wrong with the people of VA?

      Who cares.

I care. What Coonman did was offensive. The guy who dressed up as Kurtis Blow doesn’t bug me. But Coonman dressed up as an insulting caricature of a black person. And then he LIED about it! First he admitted he did it but then he said he didn’t. So not only is he a racist with very very poor judgement, he’s a liar on top of it. And now I think he’s a grifter because he won’t leave. He needs to go.

    • The blackface is eclipsed by posing with a Klansman, as well as the other clues that show Northam had a frat boy WTH approach to serious issues–even at age 25. C’mon, most folks have outgrown that by the time they are in mid-twenties. And Northam showed evidence of his fundamental lack of seriousness during his presser last weekend, when Northam was ready to demonstrate his moonwalk bonafides (until his wife nixed it)! Juvenile and TOTAL lack of judgment.
And of a piece with his lies about the picture, his nickname of “conman” and very very much worse, his advocacy of late term abortion/infanticide.

  44. Ralph Northam used to be a nice guy. I knew him casually in high school, Onancock H.S. 9th grade freshman , he is the younger son of a local retired judge, I believe his older brother attended OHS also and is a local lawyer, after 9th grade I seem to remember he went to military school. when he started into politics at first I thought , great a local boy running for state office, Onancock is on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, A VERY rural an isolated part of VA, and one of the oldest , it was settled in the early 1600s, we are proud of our heritage an are like a large family . It hurt for me to not be able to vote for Ralph , I really wanted to but his politics were too far left for my vote and a lot of the local population , he carried the 2 counties but not by a huge margin which I attribute to the influxe of northern liberals retiring down here, think of northern VA, DC area on a smaller scale. the 1st red flag was a D rating from the NRA, and then the more I read of him the less I liked and since he was elected GOV he has gone downhill. no doubt he fell under the spell of Clinton money/influence as he has been groomed by clinton backed former gov. McCauliff who was a northern VA resident who I read moved there to run for state office from up north with Clinton backing , Ralph I feel has betrayed our beloved state of VA , as well as the solemn oath he took as a physician , he has succumbed to the mistress of money and power an the blind obedience to those controlling him like a puppet. If he had any self respect left he would resign but he probably won’t , they won’t let him because if he did it would have a domino effect and VA would have REP leadership and in their twisted minds that can never happen . Myself an a lot of other TRUE VIRGINIANS have lost any respect we may have had for the top 3 in state gov and I for one am ashamed to say that Ralph Northam was an Eastern Shoreman, especially when I heard the infanticide interview , that made me both furious an sick to my stomach that someone I knew could think like that, absolutely disgusting. Pretty shore that VA will be a red st. in 2020, I know I’m praying for it, MAGA/KAG

    • Thanks Chris for this background. I know the Eastern Shore and have some friends there and from there. I too am a very longtime Virginian (though living outside of VA now, we still have a river house in VA) and am absolutely appalled by this entire scandal.

Yes the South (and all of the USA, fwiw) had had racism issues and some of my forebears did own slaves. I remember a memorable dinner with cousins where an elderly husband of a cousin said racist things when I was in high school; I was appalled and argued with him (which was highly unusual for me as I was raised to be first, respectful of my elders).

That said, my parents generation and my friends would NEVER have found posing with someone in a KKK outfit amusing. Blackface was, as I’ve said before, not considered amusing at all in the Virginia circles I ran in. Went out after the 50’s and massive resistance, I think.

Chris Ward – I commend your response, and though I don’t know Mr. Northam personally, I didn’t vote for him. I’m from the Shore as well, and I attended Northampton High; small world! Northam, like most politicians say every thing possible to get elected. Once in office, we witness the chameleon change it’s colors and usually not for the good of the people who put them in the position. I was extremely angry to learn that Northam is giving Amazon $750M to build a warehouse in Alexandria, VA, of all places. Alexandria, Va does NOT need the jobs as so many other parts of Virginia need. I used to live there and it’s only gotten bigger in population & opportunities. What about the Eastwrn Shore? What about Western Virginia? Northampton County is one of the poorest counties in Virginia with ONE hospital in your county of Accomack. Northampton County residents have to be ambulanced over to Virginia Beach and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel alone is 17.6 miles long. Anyone will be blessed to make it to a hospital over here and still be alive. When I learned of the infanticide bill he endorsed, I too was sick to my stomach – this decision does NOT represent Virginians. To find out next that the man is/was racist and is now thinking about giving reparations to the descendants of black slaves in Virginia to make him “look” better is disgusting. So, the rest of the citizens of Virginia are to pay for HIS racist actions? I am with you – 2020 will turn Virginia back to red representative of the morals & values of our great state & her citizens. #MAGA🇺🇸 #KAG🇺🇸
