Raising the rates is fine (just a little to much to soon), it actually shows that the FED believes the US economy is doing TRUMPRIFIC and will do much better! The raised rates are partly a reflection of that. I understand why Trump is mad as the US is to much in debt so even a 1 percent raise cost the government some serous mula, and it is one month before the midterms. The US economy very strong and getting better, a lot of what makes up the NY stock market and particular th 30 companies in Dow Jones average is foreign based.

The “technical” (chart followers) people just want to sell so when this happen they did, in the long run the “fundamentalist” (balance sheet people) will win out and the market as a whole will continue to rise, If you compare the broader market indexes you will see they never went down as far, and now are recovering better. Like I said on Wednesday, the market will be up Friday;still thinking that, despite some let downs today.

I’m a “chart person” and the indicators that I use were saying it was just about time for a upward swing when the market went down hard.

That being said, the indicators only work for me about 80% of the time.

Market internals have been deteriorating for weeks, so personally, I don’t think the pullback is a surprise. And so far at least, the downside action has been “orderly”. If/when that changes, then things will get interesting.

There are target growths rates, and tolerances for inflation. The FED is better then giving a crazy man close to a trillion dollars to spend each year (failed fiscal policy) like what did happen during the last administration.

One could easily predicted that the FED was going to raise it’s interest rate when VSG got in office. It because the election was an indication that the economy was going to get much better; not that they hate him. What we need is a stable 3 to 5 percent GDP growth for a decade, not less or more, for the finances of the Federal Government to get health. By realign our trade, lowering the cost of doing business, being optimizes (It does help) among many other things our President is setting up to do just that. The financial markets are just markets; I believe of the 30 Dow Jones industry stocks, that make the average, Goldman Sachs will go down the most this week; will check on Sat. Why is it and the likes of PMorgan Chase in the average?

There are real problems in how the FED administers and their ability to run monetary policy, but they are better then the drunken sailors who had run the fiscal policy.

MOST IMPORTANT MIDTERMS IN U.S. HISTORY (VOTE)

I live in CA …you could see what will happen to the rest of the country if this coup isn’t stopped now. CA voters are now seeing we are seconds away from becoming a 3rd world state and millions of Republicans will be voting; we are almost at the point of no return. I hope there is still enough voters with common sense to vote republicans into office in CA…depending on how many illegal aliens will be voting.

    California Taxes;
If you live in CA and are doing better than the average citizen; your Fed/St tax plus all the other direct/indirect taxes will bring your tax rate to be around 51% (or higher). Think about this; you work everyday from January 1 through June 30 for free; sometime after July 1 you go to work and you now get to keep what you earned. Therefore, every morning you wake up and go to work; a good portion of working 6 months for free is to support illegal aliens, protect rich countries with our military, much waste, etc. As PDJT would say; so sad.

    Home Owners at risk;
CA liberals wants to take away proposition 13; property tax protection to homeowners to give a better life to millions of illegal aliens etc…imagine supporting a billion illegal aliens in CA as the liberals want; as PDJT stated.

CA Example of unfair/unjust Business Environment:
If you own rental property in a conservative non-rent control area in CA; your area is at risk of being controlled by liberals if Republicans do not win the midterms. If you own rental property in CA in a liberal rent-controlled area they control yearly rent increases. One example, if you write in the rental agreement, no dogs allowed and the tenant brings 2 dogs into an apartment, Judges in CA are starting to rule in favor of tenants (Ignoring the Agreement) and allowing dogs in certain areas, ruling against the rental agreement. If the dog bites another tenant the landlord/owner is named in the civil lawsuit even though it is stated clearly in the rental agreement; dogs are not allowed. In the future it would not surprise me if the dog caused a dead of a tenant; landlord would be criminally charged even though a Judge allowed the tenant to have a dog while ruling against the rental agreement. The liberals would justify this by stating; sorry, business risk of owning apartments. NO COMMON-SENSE RULE OF LAW. Just like Chief Justice Kavanaugh; you are guilty until you prove you are innocent (3rd world country). I do have a dog and love all animals which is easy when you own your home. Tenants sometimes should not be allowed to have a dog in certain apartments for obvious reasons.

In certain rent-controlled areas, when the landlord takes the tenant to court; the tenant who qualify is given free city attorneys to represent them. If the landlord gets a liberal judge and if you lose the case; they send the landlord an attorney bill for the city attorney representing the tenant and instead of being the normal rate of around $5,000; they send the landlord/owner an unthinkable attorney bill between $30,000 and $50,000 and you have to fight to get it reduced to about $15,000. Time consuming and a frustrating process…

God help all of us if we lose the midterms…

    Future (10 years) Globalism example;
    1. Call your internet service provider, bank, utility company, retailer for any problem; the automatic recording will always state, as a result of an unusual high number of calls, your wait time will be longer than normal. You could receive a call back in 62 days or you could just wait on the phone for 62 days. When finally speaking to a customer service representative in 62 days, you are not able to understand them and if your tone or demeanor is not perfect the customer service representative will hang up on you, especially if they know you are calling from the United States. They have over 7 billion customers; globalist/elitist just do not care for customer service or citizens; especially if you are a citizen of the United States.
    2. You could see this in CA high technology areas already; they (Elitist) build big walls around their companies and homes and created a 3rd world country being CA for the rest of the population. This is Globalism/Elitism and they want to spread this throughout the entire country.
    3. Crime will increase 1,000% and it will be acceptable/normal including dead of family members as a result of crime. When citizens of the U.S. complain; they will be ignored and the elitist will say there is nothing that can be done and just accept your new way of life. They will justify doing nothing by stating the crime rate is equal to a 3rd world country like Mexico, and welcome to your new way of life. Now just think of Hillary Clinton (elitist) sitting laughing in her homes around the world surrounded by walls.

    Future Globalism Dating
If you are going to college and dating a female student and invited her over for dinner; I would highly recommend to have cameras placed in every inch of the home. I would have a contract for her to sign giving you permission to hold her hand, to be forgiven from any liability if you accidently touch her, and definitely have a 10-page agreement for just kissing…

If the democrats don’t get their way; they would rather destroy this country, burn it down…even though their policies will surely destroy this country anyway. We must “ALL” be involved in making sure everyone we know votes.

Common sense Rule of Law as written throughout history must be fully enforced and the Constitution must be protected as written.

God Bless PDJT; he will win this civil war and many prayers are needed to protect him and our way of life. Everyone must vote or our lives will be changed forever.

All I saw was an area that had become overrun by people who basically didn’t believe in the freedoms that was afforded to us by the sacred document signed over 230 yrs ago! Please don’t take this the wrong way but conservatives in the state have become too beaten down. I attended Republican meetings & their hearts were in the right place but nowhere did I see the enthusiasm I see in other states. It’s like they just gave up the fight! I’ve asked people why they just don’t move out & they give similar responses like you. Just don’t get it but I think you understand your choices.

I tend to agree. I totally respect Greg’s choice. But if working folks leave these areas and take their tax dollars with them, won’t the state implode? If employers in these states are left with illegals and homeless as employees, won’t they leave as well? And won’t the elite, when businesses and taxpayers leave and their taxes rise to 90% to account for it, leave? And so on…

I am in CA-45 (Orange County), Walters v. Porter. Polls say this is a very possible flip for the democrats. Walters, the republican incumbent, is an ineffectual GOPe toadie. I was following her closely in one of the past continuing resolution sell outs. She was trying to get some Federal pork for a local water district, but she didn’t have enough pull. She couldn’t even bring home the bacon but voted for the trillion dollar monstrosity anyway. She doesn’t even live in the district. She lives in Laguna Beach (with the gays, hippies, artists and gay hippie artists). She is a worthless P.O.S.

However, Porter is a hideous looking pear-shaped communist law professor. Imagine Elizabeth Warren, plus 150 lbs, plus cheekbones made of putty.

Don’t be a landlord in CA. Eventually an activist tenant will destroy you financially in the courts. The Judges and laws are totally biased in favor of tenants. As pointed out Greg above, there is financial assistance for the tenants to sue you. They can deliberately break a faucet or toilet in the rental and take you to court for inhabitability without notifying you of the breakage. No written notice to the landlord required – law says verbal notice is sufficient, so courts assume that landlord is notified, even when they are not. Even if you win in court you may end up losing your rental to the lawyer who takes the tenants case on contingency.

In all evictions the tenant can demand a jury trial in CA. Most new lawyers in CA are going into tenant law. It is a huge growth industry. The ambulance chaser legal legal factories are all opening tenant law divisions in CA.

If you are a small landlord in CA, you need to either sell your rental or prepare for the inevitable legal attack by a tenant. The lawyers are contacting tenants, coaching them on how to instigate a lawsuit and representing them on contingency. If a tenant is having trouble making the rent, they can often be easily persuaded to to accept the offer, since it means they can typically remain in the rental rent free for several years, while the case makes its way through the courts. There is a huge backlog for eviction jury trials, the lawyers know this and try to go for a jury trial, if you don’t pay them off. They start by demanding a financial sum to make the case go away. Most corporate landlords are just paying them off, since it is usually cheaper than fighting them in court.

    The Washington Post
    Obituaries
David Wise, author and CIA expert who exposed ‘invisible government,’ dies at 88

    By Matt Schudel October 10

David Wise, a journalist and author who became one of the country’s foremost authorities on espionage, writing books on the CIA, turncoat spies and whether intelligence agencies had become an unaccountable “invisible government,” died Oct. 8 at a Washington hospital. He was 88.

The cause was pancreatic cancer, said his wife, Joan Wise.

Mr. Wise was a reporter for the old New York Herald Tribune newspaper, which assigned him to its Washington bureau in 1958. He became best known for his coverage of the world of spycraft, writing more than 10 nonfiction books about the Cold War era and beyond, as well as three novels.

In one of his first books, the best-selling “The Invisible Government,” written with journalist Thomas B. Ross in 1964, Mr. Wise wrote about the excesses of intelligence agencies, including the CIA and its role in orchestrated coups in Iran and Guatemala in the 1950s.

“We felt very strongly that there were two governments in the United States: one in the civics texts and the other in the real world,” Mr. Wise told the New York Times in 1988. “We thought the intelligence agencies were important to our security. But we were troubled about a system based on the consent of the governed when the governed didn’t know to what they have consented.”

Before “The Invisible Government” was published, the CIA surreptitiously acquired a copy of the galleys and summoned the authors to a meeting with the agency’s director, John A. McCone. Ross and Mr. Wise were told their book was a breach of national security. They were handed a list of 10 items stamped “Top Secret” and were told the information was not allowed outside CIA headquarters.

The authors said that all the information in the book came from unclassified sources and that they intended to publish their book without any changes. After some hesitation, one of McCone’s assistants then took a pair of scissors and cut the words “Top Secret” from the page, and Ross and Mr. Wise were free to go.

“I later obtained part of my file under the Freedom of Information Act, and learned that a whole ‘task force’ had been assigned to me,” Mr. Wise told The Washington Post in 1981. “One phrase stated that the agency ‘should contact such assets as it has in the press to try to secure unfavorable book reviews, and so discredit author.’ They also ran a legal study to see if they could lawfully buy up the entire first printing.”

He also noted that the CIA’s legal counsel had called the book “uncannily accurate” — in large part, Mr. Wise later said, because one of his primary sources was Allen W. Dulles, the CIA’s former director.

For more than 40 years, Mr. Wise continued to write books — including three novels — that exposed the tactics, blunders and dangers of a security state. He was “generally described,” as journalist Evan Thomas wrote in the Times, “as the best-sourced, most knowledgeable author of books on espionage.”

During the 1970s, Mr. Wise warned of the erosion of personal liberties and public accountability in his books “The Politics of Lying: Government Deception, Secrecy, and Power” and “The American Police State: The Government Against the People.”

IMHO this just perpetuates a two party system that divides us.

Agree Paul. I agree we need to hold congress, but do not see any significant changes by having a few more seats. That is not a change at all.

Right now, Candace and Kanye seem to get the culture war better than most, but limited to the racial divide, at this point. Hubby just told me that one of his regular sites, Uncle Sam’s misguided children, was taken down from FB yesterday along with 800 other conservative sites. No need to post our frustrations with our leaders’ lack of response to our forced disarmament. They are allowing it.

This is the beginning of the Trump Administration & Congress exposing them and taking action. They will either self police or they will be categorized as utilities or broken up like Bell. There is no way under rule of law to stop something like this on a dime but it will happen and they will pay a price for politicizing their platforms.

Yes dawg! Also, yes, winning a “few more seats” would, on the contrary to the statement above, bring about an extremely significant change. The Kavanaugh nightmare was precipitated by having just a few RINOs in a position to hold the entire process hostage. The end of ObamaScare was prevented by one turncoat jerk.

A few seats would make a yuuuuuge difference. This is why VSGPDJT is asking for them. A few seats that are no longer the worst of the RINO obstructionists but are the best of the new MAGA voices springing up.

And yes, winning the culture war is just as important. But we can walk and chew gum at the same time. We need to complete the takeover of the Republican party.

So the Fed lowered the reserve rate from .50% to .25% (effectively zero) right after Obama won the election in December 2008.

They kept it there for 7 years until December 2015, when they raised it to .50%.

    7 years of no-interest money.

    7.
    Years.

Its kept at .5% from 12/15 to 12/16 with no change despite 4 opportunites to do so.

Then Trump wins in 2016, and they raise it a quarter percentage point in December 2016.

They then proceed to raise it .25% every three months from then until now. Now its at 2.25%. And then they announce they are going to keep raising it in December 2018, half point in 2019 and another half point in 2020.

For the stock market to climb as it did under Obama with 0% interest is not surprising. For it to climb even faster under Trump with constant rate hikes and announcements of more rate hikes is astounding.

The other thing Obama’s monetary policy did was essentially wipe out bonds and other more conservative savings instruments. That forced everybody into equities, which helped the markets but put everybody at the mercy of the major financial institutions, hedge funds and very rich wo now control the global stock markets.

That is why I am skeptical of the any major whip-saw actions in the stock markets, because those actions can be used to influence any voters who now are reliant of those markets for retirement income and retirement savings.

What it’s done here in Europe, (no) thanks to the EZB (European Central Bank) and “Druggie” (Maria Draghi) having reduced interest rates to ZERO and, in some cases, NEGATIVE interest, is robbing those of us who have scrimped and saved for years, and rewarding the globalist fatcats, who are now the only ones who can “qualify” for a loan (even though they don’t need a loand). And of course the negative interest rates are the icing on top; the fatcats can borrow money they don’t need, and be paid for the privilege…

        Hell almost ain’t hot enough…

    RCP Generic Congressional Vote Spread

Compare the actual results vs the RCP average spread for Republicans:
    https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/generic_congressional_vote-2170.html

    Estimated Actual Delta
    2002 1.7 4.6 2.9
    2006 -11.5 -7.9 3.6
    2010 9.4 6.8 -2.6
    2014 2.4 5.7 3.3

    2018 -6.9 -5.1 1.8

The RCP is off by 1.8, on average, in terms of how well the GOP performs in their average vs the actual results. With the exception of 2010, the GOP always did better than what the RCP average came out to.

With an average error of 1.8, the estimated difference would be -5.1 as of today. However, things are moving in favor of GOP and there is always the unknown Trump factor.

Probably one of the best educational videos thus far for the general public who have never experienced the core winds/surge around the eye wall of a hurricane.. especially the east southeast side..

This is where the real thing happens.. No mercy.. You are not in control.. You are completely overwhelmed and dominated by the forces of Nature.. An instinctual primal fear takes its grip.. You resign yourself to a basic life or death struggle.. And just try to hold on to Life..

Many of you may have seen this.. The storm surge.. The whole video in the page link is worth watching.. (The actual five minute posted video is the storm surge arriving). The storm chasers left their truck for higher ground and the camera kept running.. Around the two minute mark the truck goes into buoy mode and moves around with debris bumping into things.. You may think it is not such a big deal watching this while sitting comfortably in your home.. It’s a whole different ballgame when it really is happening.. There is no help.. Nobody to save you.. The patrons you happen to be with are of no help – they are in their own primal struggle to hold onto life.. Just like you..

Think through thoroughly a decision to stay.. It’s a gamble.. The real thing isn’t fun.. It’s life or death..

So here in Durham NC in the house where I’m currently staying: this area got hit by the “remnants” of Hurricane Michael. Translation: sustained winds 30mph gusting to 50+mph; torrential rains; rivers and flood prone areas going nuts; roads washed out/covered with fallen trees; power, cable, internet out and still out for over 100,000 people; trees bending at 45 degrees in every direction from the winds before they either righted themselves or broke.
I was sheltering in place, hunkered down in the interior hallway for hours. The sound of the wind shearing through the trees was loud. Battery powered radio had a new alert from Durham County Emergency Alert System broadcast every 15 minutes. Nothing really calmed down until about 10PM and the darkness because of so many houses without power was immense. You could hear the occasional generator going.
All the above it NOT to denigrate in any way the dreadful and life-altering effects of Hurricane Michael in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina. My account is how powerful the storm was even in its final bands as it headed out to coastal Virginia and then to the Atlantic.

Trump defies DiFi and Kamala, nominating 3 Federalist Society members for Ninth Circuit
By Thomas Lifson October 12, 2018….

“The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals is about to become about ten percent less crazy. President Trump has nominated three new judges for the 29-seat circuit court, over the objections of the two senators representing their home state of California. Until Trump discarded the practice, home state senators were allowed to veto judicial nominations for courts in their states, a custom known as the “blue slip…”

As a result, President Trump and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell are filling the federal bench with judges and justices who read and apply the Constitution instead of deciding which outcome they want ideologically and then finding a rationalization for it.”

    • This article is inaccurate. Senator Grassley is the one who decides how much weight to put on blue slips. The White House consults with the Senators in the home states but they have never been bound to act on the basis of those Senators input.

      https://www.judiciary.senate.gov/grassley-to-maintain-historical-blue-slip-courtesy
“As I explained earlier this week, the blue slip courtesy is just that—a courtesy. For 100 years, Judiciary Committee chairmen have asked for the views of home-state senators on judicial nominees via the blue slip.
The blue slip is meant to solicit insights into nominees and ensure that the White House is adequately consulting with home-state senators. Let me be clear: I will maintain the blue slip courtesy.
But some of my Democratic colleagues and left-wing outside groups mistakenly assert that the blue slip affords a home-state senator veto power over a nominee. That is not true. Only two out of eighteen of the previous Chairmen in the last 100 years allowed a single senator to wield veto power over a nominee.”

      http://congressionalresearch.com/RL32013/document.php
“The blue-slip process had its genesis in the Senate tradition of senatorial
courtesy. Under this informal custom, the Senate would refuse to confirm a
nomination unless the nominee had been approved by the home-state Senators of the
President’s party. The Senate Committee on the Judiciary created the blue slip (so
called because of its color) out of this practice in the early 1900s.”
