Tuesday May 30th – Open Thread

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

For some inexplicable reason, Tony Bennett, keeps popping up in my mind (he’s 90, hope he is well) and in particular this one song which I love. I know his iconic tune, “I Left My Heart In San Francisco” is the favorite of many but this is among my favorites:

If you’ve ever heard the story, Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys when he was ‘trippin’ in the 60’s wrote this big album called “SMiLE”, and he linked all the songs on it together in a big song cycle.

Anyways, the Beach Boys covered that great song, on that album, but it was never released!

Brian never finished recording the vocals for it… 40 years later, however, he went back and finished it.

Of course not as good as the Tony Bennett version… but he was such a fan of it that he worked on it for 40 years 🙂

That’s one of the tamer ones 🙂 He’s a fascinating musician, capable of really poppy, cool commercial music like the Beach Boys were known for, and then weird stuff like this that doesn’t make much sense but is beautiful in it’s own way.

I heard his name mentioned 2-3 days ago on the radio. I believe they said he had a minor health issue recently but has recovered and is performing somewhere. Probably just a one nighter.
Big H. Clinton supporter. No surprise there.

nwtex, seems nearly all of the entertainment industry are Hellery supporters. You’re right, no surprise there. It’s a shame all their conservatives have to hide in the closet for fear of ruining their careers. It appears the only ones brave enough to go public are older (James Woods, Clint Eastwood, etc.). They’ve established their chops and are a breath of fresh air out of that fetid atmosphere.

Ain’t that the truth. Even Scott Baio (not of the caliber you mentioned, but) has received so much dirt thrown at him that it makes the stomach turn….look at his twitter. And dozens more…. they are a click remaining in the shadows if they want to work. Occasionally one will come fwd but generally mention they are putting their career in jeopardy in doing so. Really disgusting stuff from the “understanding” left. And it speaks volumes.

There is a church in the San Fernando Valley, CA pastored by Jack Hayford that alot of celeb types belong to. It is wonderful to see so many of them worshiping The Lord. It does the heart good.

Please forgive me for reposting this, I posted it late yesterday in the other thread and I don’t think very many people saw it… I want to see if I’m missing something here if you’ll indulge me.

Am I the only one who finds the new KFC commercials where they’re making fun of Colonel Sanders in poor taste? He was a great man, a great entrepreneur, a veteran, was named a Kentucky Colonel, Kentucky’s highest honor… and then set up a charity with the profits from his restaurants that is still going strong and helping people to this day, 40 years after his death.

The stupid commercials aren’t even funny.

It’s stunning to me that they’re so willing to mock such a great man, who was the founder of their company! He was a good man and I think some reverently respectful commercials would go much farther for them. Show a piece of an interview with him, and talk about how you’re keeping the legend alive and have the best chicken on the planet, or something. Much more effective.

I agree, Ron. No respect for an iconic figure or product. My life-long love affair for fried chicken was initiated by my first visit to KFC when I was a very young child living in Salt Lake City in the mid-50’s. I just found this over at Wikipedia: “…the first “Kentucky Fried Chicken” franchise opened in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1952.” It was meant to be. 😍

That particular KFC, also known as Harmon’s serves the very best of every dish, the chicken, the sides, the desserts.
Every other KFC is either chicken too greasy, chicken too salty, slaw too watery, cold potatoes, or some other flaw.
That KFC takes real pride in what it serves.

NannyG, then I was very lucky to have made my initiation into fried chicken heaven at that restaurant. However, even with their coupons, KFC is expensive.
I live in IL now and we have a chain of Jewel grocery stores and every Monday, the one near me has a “Cheep Chicken” deal – 8 pieces fried or grilled for $5.99 or $6.99 and the sides are very reasonable. That is where I go these days.
A couple of times, I’ve lucked out and gotten it fresh out of their fryer.

That they would do this seems to be expected. Col. Sanders invokes visions of the Old South, etc. and he is a white guy. And, for some inexplicable reason, black people do not like the generalization about black people liking watermelon and fried chicken. Which is so totally ridiculous, because if you ask most any one of them, they will say they do. SMH

Disclaimer: I also like watermelon and fried chicken and you can’t get any whiter than I am.

Men without chests, c.s Lewis. They have no appreciation for him, or his life.

As I get older I see why society keeps destroying itself. Summed up, less God. This last few years seem to be “accelerated time”. Everything matters, every decision you make matters. People want to skip the hard stuff more and more and what is lost is important. Some days satans hand is almost visible, twisting the minds of those who have ” dipped their feet” in his hell. That stuff don’t wash off. God says “cut it off if it offends you” , strong words. Most where it like a badge kinda like this tattoo fad. Rebellion against god, psalms 2. He is laughing at it.
As we go from 1900 to the 2000’s our decline is obvious, strongholds have been established and to what end? Technology seems to advance us but, does it really. Do we love or appreciate anything more? Does truth expand through technology? Only “our” truth, and it is based on convenience. Love is not meant to be convenient, it is hard, and so worth the effort. It is what makes men men and women feel cherished, kids confident.
All is in Gods hands, i realize this more now, which makes me think ask? Is he leading , standing beside us or to the rear?
I guess making fun of an old man who did something with his time here is easier than actually “doing”.

NYC Bans Religious/Political Ads, Then Runs Religious/Political Ads Promoting Hijab

New York City has banned all political and religious ads (the Geller ban), so how is it that NYC can run these anti-freedom, political and pro-sharia religious ads?

Apart from NYC’s craven, conquered messaging in the ads how is the NYC can run ads they have banned?

    http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/philando-castile-case-who-are-the-key-figures-in-the-trial/ar-BBBFULx?li=AA4ZnC&ocid=spartanntp

Treehouse coverage (and the additional information provided by subscribers) of the Philando Castile case was exceptional and probably the only source of information where anyone could get relevant and important details of the circumstances as well as the actual event.

I would imagine with rules of evidence and legal shenanigans, that the convenience store robbery will probably be inadmissible and I have no confidence in the MSM to provide anything unfiltered.

I think this is an interesting story for the Treehouse to follow because it illustrates so vividly and blatantly how warped MSM coverage can be.  The convenience store robbery is a critical component of this story, but I think it will be obscured, blurred, and (best case scenario for the agenda driven) forgotten.

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

It’s a shame that Police get fired for political reasons and not for misconduct:

    https://www.theatlantic.com/news/archive/2017/05/tamir-rice-officer-fired/528522/

    >The Cleveland Division of Police announced Tuesday it had fired Officer Timothy Loehmann, who shot and killed 12-year-old Tamir Rice in 2014. Frank Garmback, the officer who was driving the patrol car at the time of the shooting, will be suspended for 10 days starting Wednesday.

Tamir Rice had a gun that looked real, and could cause harm. And he was using it to threaten other kids in a playground. These facts have never been disputed. Waving a gun in a playground could get you shot.
