Dr. Carson is a distinguished national leader who overcame his troubled youth in the inner city of Detroit to become a renowned neurosurgeon who served as the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland.

“I am thrilled to nominate Dr. Ben Carson as our next Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development,” said President-elect Trump. “Ben Carson has a brilliant mind and is passionate about strengthening communities and families within those communities”.

“We have talked at length about my urban renewal agenda and our message of economic revival, very much including our inner cities. Ben shares my optimism about the future of our country and is part of ensuring that this is a Presidency representing all Americans. He is a tough competitor and never gives up.”

Trump and Carson“I am honored to accept the opportunity to serve our country in the Trump administration,” said Dr. Carson. “I feel that I can make a significant contribution particularly by strengthening communities that are most in need. We have much work to do in enhancing every aspect of our nation and ensuring that our nation’s housing needs are met.”

Ben Carson was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 18, 1951. While his mother lacked access to a quality education, she encouraged her sons in their scholastic pursuits and instilled the value of hard work. Carson graduated with honors from Southwestern High School, where he also became a senior commander in the school’s ROTC program. He earned a full scholarship to Yale University and graduated in 1973 with a B.A. degree in psychology.  (read more)

I am glad Dr. Carson was selected for a position like this. Of all of Trump’s former opponents, Dr. Carson was the classiest. And when it became apparent that he had no path forward, he graciously bowed out of the race and then endorsed President Elect Trump. And he never looked back. He has been a loyal supporter of Trump ever since.

Carson is the type of man I want in government. I do hope he is up to the task however. Trump’s vision is bold, and HUD will play a major part in making that vision happen. Another important position that seems to have flown under the radar so far is Secretary of Energy. I have a feeling Trump is going to want to completely revamp the energy industry in the US and remove our reliance on foreign sources of energy for good.

I share the pleasure seeing Dr. Carson appointed to HUD. (Which I recall, as a kid, hearing someone call “Hell Upon Detroit.” Apparently still true!)

He’s a brilliant man but this will be a very new type of challenge for him. Separating conjoined twins is very different from managing a bureaucracy full of careerists who hate everything you stand for. If anyone can make such a dramatic shift in job description, it’s him. He’ll have the backing of POTUS-45, for certain. I wish him every success.

Dr. Carson will have all the help he needs. Carson has had a fantastic foundation for years, extremely well managed.

There’s no way Trump put him in this position to fail. If help is needed administratively I’m sure Trump and maybe Carson also has good people in mind. If anyone can reach out to inner cities and especially black churches for support for Trump projects it’s Carson. I think Carson will go directly to the people and bypass the press as much as possible just like Trump has.

Sounds like he had actual experience with some of those inner city programs which would give him personal data on what worked and what didn’t. I’m so tired of wasting money on programs that don’t work. Actual solutions, I’ll wager, don’t cost a lot but do require creativity and a willingness to realize that not every community needs or wants the same things.

Has some issues Democrats will attack him for, especially if he is going to head up HUD.

Also, his close, personal and business relationship with Armstrong Williams will be scrutinized because of Williams advocacy of using NOI members to police Chicago and inner cities. “Desperate times call for desperate measures.” But Farrakhan’s NOI has beeen in chicago for almost 4 decades and no good has come of it.

“Ben Carson: ‘We cannot have a strong nation if we have weak inner cities.’”
Finally, the inner cities will have a great example of what determination, high standards, hard work, and applying oneself can yield. No whining, no social justice warrioring, no holding out the hand for welfare, no drugs. And no focus on being held down by another race. Carson wasn’t held back, and no one else will be, either.

God bless you Ben Carson, you are needed there. Sadly, you will be disappointed with the culture you find at that department but be of good cheer knowing that you will be as close to “ground zero” in “draining the swamp” as one can get in the federal government. IMO, it is at the bottom of all the agencies or departments for work culture, efficiency, productivity, you name it. Thank you for what you are taking upon yourself.

Another brilliant Trump move. At Education or Healthcare Carson would have been an easy media target as an “anti-science” creationist. Here he can put to good use his empathy and ability to connect with people reducing friction, plus some direct user experience of the problems, minus the toxic political insider experience of those programs.
