I doubt you could find a more apropos example of the current state of the 2016 republican presidential race than to look at the contrast today between Donald Trump and Ted Cruz.
Candidate Trump heads to Indiana and Maryland for campaign rallies with voters; while candidate Cruz rushes to Hollywood Florida to meet with RNC officers, party insiders and GOPe officials.   Trump rallies people – Cruz relies on party bosses.

The party officials who met with Team Cruz today are the same party leaders who have presided over the past decade’s exodus from the Republican Party.  The GOPe has dropped 17% of it’s base, now around 30% registration “Republican”, and prior to candidate Donald Trump held less than a third of all registered U.S. voters.
Donald Trump has brought in massive numbers of new voters to the Republican party:  ♦ Over 100,000 people switched or registered ‘republican’ in Pennsylvania; ♦ more than 20,000 Massachusetts democrats changed party to republican prior to the primary; ♦ in California tens of thousands of voters are switching, or registering for the first time, all to support Donald Trump.
Despite this, or perhaps because of this, the milquetoast Vichy Republican party is doing everything within their elitist power to stop their tent of exclusivity from expanding.
As ridiculous as it sounds, THAT is the current insufferable reality within the modern GOP(E).  The bizarre world of “private party politics” now reduced to senator Cruz meeting with the RNC rules committee today in an effort to win a nomination despite the will of the people.

Stop Trump” means “Stop The Voters

Having been mathematically eliminated from winning the nomination by vote, Senator Ted Cruz makes his pitch to the RNC to appoint him as the nominee despite the will of the people voting against him.

Senator Ted Cruz can only win the nomination if the delegates at the July RNC Convention deny the will of the people and give their vote to him regardless of the votes from their hometown voters.  This is the current state of the race.  This is the current ‘system’ manipulation Cruz supporters are relying upon to get their candidate a nomination.
Meanwhile, the only candidate who can capture enough delegates to win the nomination outright, Donald Trump, is rallying his voters in Indiana and Maryland:

The Blue-Collar Billionaire, Donald Trump, is currently 2.4 million votes ahead of second place candidate Ted Cruz.  Trump is also 300+ delegates ahead of Cruz, and there are not enough delegates left for Cruz to close the gap.
Candidate Ted Cruz is now only in the race in an attempt to deny Donald Trump the remaining 389 delegates needed to win the nomination ahead of a convention.  However, Ted Cruz is also bleeding support from an awakened electorate who are watching the manipulative efforts and schemes unfold.
Senator Cruz is fully inside a republican party apparatus which is trying earnestly to disenfranchise voters in a vain effort to retain their own relevance and grip on power.
Anyone who stands in the sunlight and points this out, including the media, now becomes a threat to the Old Guard as evidenced in this press conference presser with Senator Cruz earlier today in Florida:
