Developments In Malheur Wildlife Refuge Standoff !
We’ve been following the story of the persecution of the Hammond family in Oregon from a position of trying to identify the real motive and real agenda behind the MSM headlines.

To aid the Hammond family Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy and his family appealed to Harney county Sheriff David Ward.
The request/expectation was that Sheriff Ward would be willing to stop federal agents from arresting “Dwight Lincoln Hammond, Jr., 73, and his son, Steven Dwight Hammond, 46. Unfortunately the exact opposite happened.
Sheriff to Oregon militants: ‘Go home‘
The sheriff of this small community has a short, unmistakable message for the militants occupying a complex of federal buildings southeast of town.
“Go home.”
During a news conference that lasted only about a minute Monday afternoon, Harney County Sheriff David Ward read from prepared statements condemning the group led by the sons of controversial Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy. (link)
Sheriff Ward took a highly adversarial position to the plight of the Hammonds, and continues to make a loud call for Aamon Bundy to step-down and discontinue the ongoing protest at the Malheur Wildlife Refuge.
By all accounts Harney County Sheriff Dave Ward wants this story out of public visibility ASAP.
We might have just discovered why.
A David Ward formerly worked for the Federal Bureau of Land Management and appears to have actually been a witness against the Hammond family in the ridiculous federal terrorism trial back in 2012.

Was current Sheriff David Ward the Federal Land Management employee who was witness #11 in the trial against the Hammond family? From the transcript:
“Before September 30, 1999, Ward worked with Steven and Dwight Hammond in Sections 15 and 16 with the intent to do a cooperative prescribed burn after preparing a plan and doing an environmental study. Ward thought a burn would improve the range conditions. Ward had not been provided notice that Steven and Dwight Hammond intended to do a“controlled” burn on Sunday, September 30, 2001. Ward learned of the burn on September 30, 2001.
Obviously,if that “Rangeland Specialist” Dave Ward is now Sheriff Dave Ward, he would not want the larger public to understand his complicity in the prosecution of the Hammond family. Nor would he have any motive or intent to protect Dwight or Steven Hammond from the appealed second set of sentences which were demanded by activist U.S. Attorney Amanda Marshall.
Why would he protect them, when he testified against them.
Two days ago:
CRANE — Harney County Sheriff Dave Ward, backed up by two other sheriffs, met face-to-face Thursday with protest leader Ammon Bundy to try to bring a peaceful end to a weeklong occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.
“I’m here to offer safe escort out,” the sheriff told Bundy. “Go back and kick it around with your folks.”
The sheriff initially said he planned to call Bundy on Friday to see what he and his group decided.
But later Bundy told reporters that the protesters won’t leave until federal land in the county is turned over to residents to manage on their own. (link)

The FBI and the Oregon State Police jointly reported five people were arrested and one unnamed person was killed in connection with an occupation at the Malheur National Wild Refuge. Here’s the full news release:
At approximately 4:25 p.m. (PST) on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Oregon State Police (OSP) began an enforcement action to bring into custody a number of individuals associated with the armed occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. During that arrest, there were shots fired.
One individual who was a subject of a federal probable cause arrest is deceased. We will not be releasing any information about that person pending identification by the medical examiner’s office.
One individual suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. He was arrested and is currently in custody.
The arrested individuals include:
•Ammon Edward Bundy, age 40, of Emmett, Idaho
•Ryan C. Bundy, age 43, of Bunkerville, Nevada
•Brian Cavalier, age 44, of Bunkerville, Nevada
•Shawna Cox, age 59, Kanab, Utah
•Ryan Waylen Payne, age 32, of Anaconda, Montana
These probable cause arrests occurred along Highway 235.
In a separate event in Burns, Oregon, at approximately 5:50 pm, Oregon State Police arrested the following individual:
•Joseph Donald O’Shaughnessy, age 45, Cottonwood, Arizona
All of the named defendants face a federal felony charge of conspiracy to impede officers of the United States from discharging their official duties through the use of force, intimidation, or threats, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 372.
We continue to work with Harney County Sheriff Dave Ward and his deputies; Oregon State Police; and the United States Attorney’s Office to address any further outstanding issues. As the investigation is ongoing, we cannot comment further at this time.
All defendants should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.

In the affidavit by Katerine Armstrong Finicum was seen, made statements, etc. but he was not listed as a defendant. This complaint and arrest was supposedly made on Jan. 26 or should have been before the arrest on probable cause. However the date stamp was 27 Jan*16 @ 15:35. Do you think this complaint was date stamped after the arrest and they knew LaVoy would not be around to arrest? Please read the Complaint and Affidavit very carefully. In my opinion it was mostly based on “local news”, “online videos and pictures”. What kind of investigation is that? Is it first hand knowledge of Katerine Armstrong? No address for the United States District for the District of Oregon? No seal on this document?

What murder? He was illegally taking over a federal building. I’m surprised they didn’t send in SWAT earlier. I personally am offended they took over a Wildlife Refuge spouting that they want the land to go back to the people. If they had free reign over BLM or protected federal land they would overgraze it. The Forest Service was established in the late 1800’s – early 1900’s in response to chronic over grazing and the need to protect the land. As a meat eater I understand the need for grazing land, but as an employed biologist I also see that these ranchers are not well educated on balanced grazing so that the land isn’t completely stripped. There is countless research to back up the destruction of overgrazing. And these ranchers get a good deal by paying for grazing permits. If they bought that land outright, 1) it would be financially prohibitive and 2) the cost of upkeep would be astronomical and everyone would be paying much more for meat.

Are you serious? Ranchers are not educated about grazing practices? They likely know more than you do, Ms. Biologist. My husband is a farmer and I can guarandamntee you that he knows more about farming than some of the idiot government drones he has to show his plans. Hate to say it but your post reminds me of Obama talking to us, his serfs, from his ivory tower. Education counts but hands on experience will teach you more.
Anyway, my heart is broken for these families. The BLM has become the Stasi. Remember back in school when we were taught that Russia and China treated their citizens ths way? Welcome to the USSA.

I don’t doubt that your husband knows much more than many government drones about farming and probably lots of other things as well. What I am referring to is that there is a major disconnect between researchers and ranchers (and farmers) on the best practices for using the land in a sustainable fashion. On one side you have people researching species and ecosystems and seeing and documenting how the lands are negatively impacted by overgrazing and impractical farming alike. On the other side you have ranchers feeding America and needing to also make an income to keep a ranch going and to make a living. Bridging the gap between research and ranching is a difficult task especially when there is so much push back to that change. It’s hard for ranchers to want to make a sustainable change if in the beginning that might impact profits and paying bills, I get that, but at some point a change will need to be made or we all lose. According to North Carolina State University, “nearly 30 percent of today’s farmers and ranchers have attended college, with over half of his group obtaining a degree.” That’s not a very high figure. Education doesn’t have to not be hands on, in fact I think hands on is the best practice for learning and teaching. Growing up on a ranch or farm is wonderful education, but so much more information and new and improved practices can be learned by going out and getting educated outside of the hands on experience on a ranch. And I realize college can be expensive, I myself am still paying back my degree, but there are workshops and seminars everywhere, and all the time, people just need to be open and to seek out new information for more viable options.
I’m not trying to speak from an ivory tower, I’m just trying to convey another perspective. I’m originally from Arizona and have seen first hand how the BLM can mismanage. Maybe As far as the death of Finicum, well it is sad, but it could have been avoided if the wildlife refuge hadn’t been illegally taken over in the first place. I can’t believe that anyone who takes over a facility illegally with firearms is continually thinking the whole time ‘I’m going to survive this.’ No, rationally if you do something like that you are taking a huge risk and putting your life on the line. Now we will have to see if the decisions he and the others have made were worth it, were worth someone dying.

Farmers, at least those like my husband, and ranchers, like my former FIL, have to take courses in order to stay up to date. My husband has an M.B.A. and most of the farmers in our area have at least a BS.
Rationally, the gov’t wouldn’t let gorillas like the BLM pee in land owners faces.

This was exposed in West Virginia by Thomas Deegan. His reward for exposing the whole government of WV was solitary confinement because the militia would not show up at the 12th hour. There was and still is a total news blackout on this event so he can be disposed of.

According to the 18yo girl in LaVoy’s truck, some of the men in the truck had their sidearms, but that was all, and they never reached for them.
Also, there are other reports that say LaVoy had left his gun behind at the refuge. They say he was unarmed.

Yep, and that’s exactly how they treated them – like terrorists. They lit into that truck after they’d shot LaVoy, just like LE did to the San Bernardino terrorists. Only this time, it was 2 unarmed women, and one man with one holstered sidearm that were down on the floorboards, with bullets flying everywhere.

This comes one day after the group leader Ammon Bundy was arrested during a traffic stop and shootout with police. A federal criminal complaint against eight people arrested for occupying a national wildlife refuge says that the armed group had explosives and night-vision goggles and was prepared to fight.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Stacie F. Beckerman in Portland unsealed the complaint Wednesday, which lists reasons for the arrests Tuesday night during a traffic stop that left one man dead.
The document says a source told authorities about the equipment on Jan. 2, when the group took over Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. It’s not clear if officials found explosives or if that’s the reason they moved to make the arrests.
The complaint says refuge employees were unable to report to work because of threats of violence from the group.
It includes photos of social media posts by the defendants during the occupation.

A “source” told authorities on January 2nd, 26 days ago, about the equipment, and that’s justification for ambushing them on their way to continue negotiations? They didn’t have explosives or night vision goggles in their vehicles, and the authorities have no proof that they had them at all.

Watched the news conference and the FBI guy looked pleased as punch. Made me sick. But the Sheriffs face said it all, clearly he was upset at what happened and his conscience is getting to him. He should have resigned if he knew what they were doing was wrong..Now he will have Lavoys blood on his hands

I barely slept last night, I am so sickened by the unaccountable evil which is allowed to reign over American lives playing God over our life, liberty and freedom. Here is the criminal complaint. I haven’t read it but the CfCF folks are all co-defendants, being tried as one.
The Bundy’s and those who have supported them in deed, have exposed the corrupt power play of the federal government to people outside of the community. LaVoy paid the ultimate price, those arrested will pay dearly for taking a stand against the tyranny of the BLM.

“The state police said it would investigate the officer-involved shooting, with help from the Deschutes County Major Incident Team and the Harney County District Attorney’s Office.” I see this ambush happened in Deshutes County I know the area well as my home was there for years. Very remote area, clearly did not want any witnesses. They were waiting for them and were ambushed. The whole operation staged and set to make it look like these folks are a bunch of terrorists. The govt. wants that land bad. For whatever reason you can be sure its ilegal!

Certainly were out to his sides far away from his body for most of it. I think he was startled by the agent who came at him from behind and through the woods and may have put his arms down when he pivoted.

His hands were definitely up or out for most of the time. Unfortunately, it looks like he used his left hand to pull his coat back and reached under with his right, like he was going for a cross draw holstered gun just before he was shot. 😦 Given that, it’s hard to say that it’s a totally unjustified shoot.
It’s hard to say for sure, but it does look like many shots were then fired at the pickup.

And walking in the snow is not easy to turn around, maybe lost his balance a bit and had to move his arms. Clearly he was surprised to see the man behind him and felt trapped. Interesting they are saying he had a gun in his pocket. Did they make that up?

Was he shot from behind and turned and maybe out of reflex went to reach in his pocket? Drudge has put out a new unedited version. I am going to watch it. It’s 27 minutes long.

If he did have one in his pocket, what he did is the hardest way of pulling it possible.
They had claimed that he was charging at the police. This video shows that he “charged” out of the truck, as much as someone can in such deep snow, then had stopped well before they shot him. So that much is clearly untrue.

@PNWBELLE @Madmarch1 A lot of people have jumped to the conclusion that the David Ward who is sheriff is the David Ward who works for the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. They are two separate people. That is confirmed information — the only kind we report at The Oregonian.
