Two Terror Suspects Confirmed Dead in Belgian Anti-Terror Raids – Officials Concerned “Imminent” Attacks In Europe

Belgium (AP) – Two people were killed when Belgian police halted what local officials are calling “a second Paris,” a reference to last week’s terror attacks in the French capital.

The deaths occurred Thursday evening as anti-terror police carried out an anti-terror operation in the small city of Verviers, about 80 miles east of Brussels, officials confirmed in a Thursday evening press conference. Another person was seriously injured and has been detained.

The suspected terrorists are Arab-French, recently returned from Syria and are believed to have Islamic State ties, according to the Federal Prosecutor’s Office.

Multiple other searches were being carried out across the country, police said. Those were confirmed by newspaper La Libre to be taking place in both the capital Brussels and the city of Vanderlecht.

The Verviers terror cell was going to “imminently” carry out a massive terror attack, authorities said. It is believed they were planning to firebomb a police station before carrying out several other attacks.

The extremists opened fire on police as they closed in while serving a warrant, officials said.

“The suspects immediately and for several minutes opened fire with military weaponry and handguns on specials units of the federal police before they were neutralized,” said federal prosecutor Eric Van Der Sypt.

Belgian network VTM reported the raid occurred near the central Verviers train station. Video from the scene shows a raging fire, dozens of gunshot can be heard over the sound of several people shouting.  (read more)

They are at war. We are not. Obama thinks we should just “absorb’ it. PC is more important. They are only killing less than 1,000 at a time. Move along.

Let them be at war. I want to see for myself how these Europeans (that many elites in America believe we should imitate in all things) wage war. My memory is not that good, I recall America went to Europe to fight a war they were losing against the Germans.

I want to see what these cultures/societies have learned since then and are committed to achieve with these radical citizens who some think might be behaving in a terrorist manner…somewhat.

“opened fire with military weaponry and handguns”

Watch, and fight against, firearm control that will be pushed this year through legislation. Disarming us will, I believe, open the floodgates to citizenship attack on US soil.

The message the Moslems are sending isn’t quite what they want. It’s causing a massive, worldwide wake-up call to Islam’s real intent, and I think people aren’t buying the “extremist” line pushed by governments. At least I hope.

It is beyond insanity that European countries as well as the U.S. are allowing these scum to travel back and forth to Syria to fight/murder with ISIS. Can I say it? These leftist leaders are the spawn of satan. How can you even explain it??? Also if thry want to go let them go and hopefully get killed but do not allow them to return, revoke their citizenship immediatley!!

This brings up an interesting point… is counterterrorism (CT) a MILITARY function, or a POLICE function?
Serving a warrant on terrorists is borderline absurd, it buys into some naive notions.

That said, I am pleased that the Belgian Police were a success.

All the blather lately about militarization of police… it is not so much the kit (equipment) that makes a CT effort, it is the hard heart and willpower to use the capability. Anything else just looks like a gay pride/Village people parade meets Star Wars (the masks, the weaponry, the posturing…)

Seems to me that the military fights enemies and the police fight criminals.

But when criminals start uniting, at what point should the military become involved? Street gang? City gang? State gang? Interstate gang? International gang? “Gang” meaning gang, “family”, cartel, etc.

There are oaths to defend against all enemies, foreign and domestic. What is a domestic enemy? Would the Marines be called up to fight them?

It also seems to me that both criminals and enemies violate people’s rights to life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, and property.

Both criminals and enemies can perhaps learn the error of their ways and turn around and become upstanding, sometimes by their own observation and reasoning (e.g. Whittaker Chambers), but often by overwhelming force to degrade their evil capabilities. Regrettably, they often do not survive the required force. God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Where the hell is Lindsey Graham, who stated after the Bergdahl fiasco that any more releases from Gitmo would be an impeachable offense? Why does no one ever call him on this, or did it only refer to prisoner swaps?

Well, I hope against hope and all the odds, that maybe Rutte, Hollande, and all the rest of the prancers and dancers who put on their oh-so-fashionable “JE SUIS CHARLIE” bandanas as they sip coffee in Paris and then march bravely for the cameras, might cogitate on the wise words of USMC General James Mattis, “No war is over until the enemy says it’s over. We may think it over, we may declare it over, but, in fact, the enemy gets a vote.”

Our enemy, please note, has cast his vote for war.

“The enemy gets a vote.” Were wiser words ever uttered by a mere mortal? They, at least, are right up there in rank with another of the General’s remarks, “I come in peace . . . I’m pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you f**k with me, I’ll kill you all.”
