Friday Open Thread – March 2nd

In Memoriam 1969 – 2012

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

“Americans routinely accept excesses of control, and a lazy degeneration of culture, that would have provoked outrage only a few generations ago. Conservatives must pick that edifice apart, by asking the Left questions it cannot answer. Watching Breitbart in action was like watching Captain James T. Kirk talk a godlike super-computer into self-destructing. The difference is that Breitbart could do it while roller-skating.”

      Bravo, Doc!

“…At the press conference, WND journalist Dr. Jerome Corsi reported that he had arranged on the evening prior, a private conference between the sheriff and conservative media champion Andrew Breitbart, and Corsi wondered whether it might have been Breitbart’s last interview. As we mourn Breitbart’s passing, we hope that his colleagues continue to pursue his inspiring legacy of boldness in uncovering and reporting the truth. At CPAC, Breitbart had assured attendees: “This election, we’re going to vet [Obama].”

I gotta share…the death of Andrew Breitbart has really affected me. I wish I could say “I don’t know why” but I can’t. I know why. I just feel like “who is going to fight for me now…who is going to fight for my kids now…who do I look to as an example of what to say to someone who calls me or my kids ‘RACCCCIST?”.

Plus, I just watched the Red Eye tribute that Gutfeld did last night (I DVR’d it) and he was just such a great guy. So funny and and interesting. I just wish I once got to talk to him.

I had a very vivid dream last night that I saw him in a restaurant and he looked at me like “what?” and talked to him as if we were long lost friends and yelled at him for pretending to be dead. Then I just grabbed him and hugged him so tightly and said “Please don’t go…we need you.”. I woke up almost half thinking I wasn’t dreaming.

But I was. I’m just so sad.

I feel the same way, G8rmom. I’ve been thinking about something that Tilda wrote on one of the Breitbart threads:
“And I feel like I need to fight. Really fight. And then Andrew, who was a true lion among us, has left us and I feel like it’s a sign, a call to take up the mantle. I don’t know how just yet, but I can’t shake the feeling that there is something more I could be doing.

I need to fight, too. I don’t really know what I skills I have to bring to the table though. I have a difficult time confronting people; I’m reeeeally not a “people person.” I prefer to work behind the scenes. KWIM? The only time I speak up is when I’m REALLY PISSED and I get nasty. Profanity flies out of my mouth; it really bothers me but I have a hard time restraining myself when I get REALLY PISSED. So what can I do? I can’t stay REALLY PISSED all the time, it’s not healthy. *sigh*

Gator, yes we need heros like Andrew Breitbart. They inspire us, they lead by example and are often the first to fall in battle. But we also need heros like yourself who hold sacred the value of Mr. Brietbart’s morals and conviction. Heros that are willing to pick up the flag and rally the rest of us to what must be victory.

    • James O’Keefe penned a brilliant consideration in memoriam of his mentor and friend. The last paragraph hits upon what you are feeling.

…I’ve gotten messages from people this morning asking, “What are you going to do now?” Certainly, it would have taken an army to stop him and just as certainly it is going to take an army to replace him. But in my head I can hear the response come from Andrew: “What are *you* going to do about it now?” What we need are just a few good citizens with both courage and willpower. The courage to ‪act with conscience and conviction, consequences and misconceptions be damned”……

God bless you, Andrew Breitbart; thank you for all you’ve taught me and all that you’ve given to us all.

There is a role for each of us to play. We all have different personalities, different talents, and different ways of fighting. We are not all leaders, we are not all speakers for the movement. In other words, we are not all Palin or Breitbart, but, and this is incredibly important, they have no role without us. They cannot accomplish anything at all on their own, and that is no slam, it is something they knew, and therefore utilized all their talents to get people to move and do. We have to keep doing every thing we can to get our message out, to sway opinion, to speak the undeniable truth. We have to be a loud and cacophonous voice in the ears of congress. We have to keep the Tea Party alive and strong. We have to watch for voter fraud. We have to make phone calls, write letters, speak out. I was horribly disturbed by the video Puddy posted of the Michelle Malkin event. It was appalling and scary and repulsive. We have to oppose such terrible behavior and demand better of our society. We have to shine the light on this. We are letting the liberals, the democrats control the presentation, and therefore the thinking, of most of America, and that is why we needed Breitbart. He didn’t do anything complex, or secret, or anything we cannot do. He stood in the face of this and shined a light on the most heinous deeds and words, and that was enough. Most people who see these actions will be appalled and we have to force this recognition. Because we sure as hell do not have a Republican leader who will do it, with the possible exception of Gingrich.

I have a game I play with one of my sons. We call each other when one of the songs the other hates comes on the radio, and serenade each other with our most disliked songs. I started it by playing El Paso for him (I know – he has no taste, right?). My husband laughs because when he calls me with some goofy rap song I never heard of, I tell him he isn’t playing by the rules, and he totally didn’t score. Point is, so far, I have made the rules to the stupid game, therefore I am winning big. This is what we are doing with the dems. Trying to play by rules that do not exist! Why do we not just go out and telllllll the truth on our terms. No, we won’t convince everyone, but we will sound so much better than what we sound like when we try to “explain” and be on defense.

This is a great point…stop playing by their rules….and my husband and i do that to each other all the time too…only it’s strictly just to annoy each other…no game or winning or losing. He lately turns off everything when “Man or Muppet” comes on the Disney Channel (which is every 15 minutes). I actually like that movie and song, but DC has WAY overstayed their welcome with it and I’m over it. I will call him from the car and pray it goes to voice mail so I can record some 80’s song like “It’s Raining Men” or some other song he hates will be recorded for him when he checks it. LOL

Our warriors are here and endure because of the rank and file who follow them, are inspired by them, and elaborate on their words and deeds. We were blessed to have Andrew Breitbart with us for as long as we did. Let us now honor his memory by continuing to be inspired by and elaborate on his words and deeds.

PM Netanyahu understands his neighborhood and we should defer to a former Israeli Commando on matters such as this instead of a community organizer. I appreciate President Obama’s desire to seem tough but so far it has only resulted in the expansion of radical Islamist dominance in the middle east. 21. Take a few minutes and listen to how Bill Whittle describes Breitbart. Whittle was not the least surprised at Breitbarts death, and he talks about the much unknown heart attack that Breitbart suffered several months ago. (*note* due to the potential financial impact on the Breitbart empire, and their being a private company it was kept on the down low). The entire video tribute is 20 mins, but Whittle hits the key points in the first 3 mins. Worth a watch.

    Well, it’s Friday night now, and I feel like re-posting it… 🙂

Apologetix is a band that does Christian parodies of popular songs. Think Weird Al meets Billy Graham.

If you are familiar with the music of the 80′s, I think you’ll enjoy this medley:

    Read Acts
Parody of “Relax” performed by Frankie Goes to Hollywood and written by Peter Gill, Holly Johnson, Brian Nash & Mark O’Toole

    Bartimaeus Eyes
Parody of “Bette Davis Eyes” performed by Kim Carnes and written by Donna Weiss & Jackie DeShannon

    Sweet Jesus Made a Whip
Parody of “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” performed by Eurhythmics and written by Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart

    Psalm Passage at Night
Parody of “Sunglasses at Night” performed and written by Corey Hart

    Hundred Nineteenth Psalm
Parody of “Hungry Like the Wolf” performed and written by Duran Duran

    They Blindly Speak of Science
Parody of “She Blinded Me With Science” performed by Thomas Dolby and written by Thomas Dolby and Jo Kerr

One Thing Leads to the Father
Parody of “One Thing Leads to Another” performed by The Fixx and written by Cy Curnin, Adam Woods, Jamie West-Oram, Rupert Greenall & Alfie Agius

I Can’t Grow From That (Nor Can You)
Parody of “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)” performed by Darryl Hall & John Oates and written by Darryl Hall, John Oates & Sara Allen

    James 1:3
Parody of “Take on Me” performed by A-ha and written by Magne Furuholmen
    Morten Harket & Pål Waaktaar

    Wicked
Parody of “Whip It” performed by Devo and written by Gerald Casale & Mark Mothersbaugh

And finally, here’s the video (the video clips used are not of Apologetix the band… they are from music videos of the original 80′s songs… a YouTube user just matched up the original videos to the Apologetix audio…)

You can find the lyrics here: 80’s Medley: Octagon But Not Forgotten
