NEW YORK – Last year really went out with a bang, according to police statistics obtained by The Post on Monday.
The NYPD data showed a 55 percent spike in homicides during the final weeks of 2014, which were marked by turmoil including anti-cop protests in the wake of the Eric Garner and Michael Brown cases that boiled over with the assassination of two officers on patrol.
A total of 31 people were slain between Dec. 8 and Sunday, compared with 20 people killed during the same time period a year earlier.
In addition, the city tallied 102 shooting victims during the 28-day period, up 13 percent from the 90 people who shot in the previous year’s period. (read more)
