TYLER HILL, Pa. (AP) — The lawyer for a 10-year-old Pennsylvania boy accused of killing a 90-year-old woman says he’ll try to get the youth released on bail and put into his father’s care.
Attorney Bernard Brown said Tuesday that he will also seek a competency hearing for the boy, who is charged as an adult with criminal homicide.
Brown says the boy may have mental health issues. He says those issues could indicate he is not competent to stand trial and also may support his case being transferred to juvenile court.
Prosecutors say the victim was in the care of the boy’s grandfather.
According to police, the boy told his mother he lost his temper after the woman yelled at him. They say he pulled her onto a bed and beat her while holding a cane against her throat. (link)
