Many people do not fully comprehend the scope of how critical this question is.
The post shooting events of the Big Mike Brown incident might just be one of the most captured timeframes in social media history. Virtually half of the community who walked out their front door recorded some aspect of the shooting. In addition to being a reflection of the new social media impact – those recordings can be key pieces of a puzzle.
By now everyone should be familiar with what we have labeled the “Black Canseco” video. [Again, the name is merely an identifier for the video recording, it does not signify anything beyond a convenient label].

And for a cognitive refresh here’s the video:

This video is a key element because it holds significant research value. We know the body of Big Mike Brown was covered at 12:17pm, so we are able to identify the start time of this video 10 minutes earlier, or around 12:07pm. A mere 5 minutes after the shooting itself which was at 12:02pm.
The background witness statements, who have really outlined the most significantly consistent account of what took place, are another key element of this video. There has not been one physical evidentiary contradiction to the mystery witness account. Everything stated matches up with the known and provable elements so far.
The ‘mystery witness’ is sharing what he saw less than 10 minutes post shooting. Remember the eye witness voice is not the camera operator; the eye witness is off camera explaining what transpired to another bystander.
The testimonial is raw, unguarded, unrehearsed, and being stated less than 10 minutes since the shots were fired; therefore it is considered highly reliable – and so far nothing has been contradicted.

WITNESS (6:05 – 6:08): They just walked right past me when I was going, coming out the house [inaudible].

WITNESS (6:10 – 6:12): [Inaudible] I mean [inaudible] I went back in –

QUESTIONER (6:12): That’s the one –

WITNESS (6:13 – 6:18): That’s the one that ran behind this right here, ‘cause he ran up there where we was at, where we live at.

WITNESS (6:19 – 6:20): Now I was, when I came back outside –

Key Element – It appears, as witness was coming out of his house, he saw Mike Brown and Dorian Johnson just walking, he then went back inside for a minute, and when he came back out the confrontation had begun.

WITNESS (6:20 – 6:26): – all I seen was the police in that truck right there. Dudes – I don’t know what happened [inaudible] –

QUESTIONER (6:26): So whose hat is that right there?

WITNESS (6:27 – 6:29): That’s his hat, I don’t know what happened –

QUESTIONER (6:29 – 6:30): How’d he get from there to here?

WITNESS (6:30 – 6:33): ‘Cause he ran. The police was still in the truck.

QUESTIONER (6:33): They came this way?

WITNESS (6:34 – 6:40): Naw, he was right there, the police was still in the truck. He’s like, I don’t know, he was kinda pushing with his hands [inaudible] he was in that truck.

QUESTIONER (6:38 – 6:40, crosstalk with last part of above): Running this way →? Why his body come this way ←though?

Key Element – the questioner is asking if Mike Brown was running East, why is his body facing West?

WITNESS (6:41 – 6:47): Him and the police, yeah him and the police, I mean the police was in the truck. He was like over the truck right, now.

WITNESS (6:47 – 6:51): But [“cause”] then he ran. Police got out and ran after him [inaudible].

Key Element – the Witness is stating Officer Wilson and Mike Brown both initially headed East

WITNESS (6:51 – 6:55): Then the next thing I know, he coming back towards the police. The police had his gun drawn already.

QUESTIONER (6:56 – 6:57): Oh, the police dropped the son?

Key Element – the witness is stating Mike Brown stopped, turned and began coming back toward officer Wilson who had his gun drawn.  *Note* No gun fire prior to Mike Brown turning around – no shots toward the back.

WITNESS (6:57 – 7:05): Yeah the police shot him. The police kept dumping him, and I’m thinking that the police missing like, he’s like, police was like this far from him.

WITNESS (7:06 – 7:12): And I’m thinking [inaudible], at least, at least 5 shots. Next thing I know, I think he’s missing.

Key Element – Witness implying Officer Wilson and Mike Brown close in proximity when he observes initial volley of gunfire.   Witness sounds incredulous because from his perspective officer Wilson should not be missing at the distance he’s observing.

QUESTIONER (7:12 – 7:14): The police shoot the dude?

WITNESS (7:14 – 7:17): The police shot him. Next thing I know, I think he’s missing.

WITNESS (7:18 – 7:21): He, then dude started running, kept coming toward the police.

Key Element –  Witness is stating *AFTER* first volley of shots, we know to be six, Mike Brown then started “running”, “coming toward” officer Wilson.

– Transcription skips to 08:17 –

QUESTIONER  (8:17 – 8:26): Because I’m tellin’ you, I heard like, I heard like 8 shots. It was like 4, and then it was like 4 more. It was like pop pop pop pop pop, and just stopped for a minute, pop pop pop.

WITNESS (8:27 -8:32): police officer, how many times you heard that?  The police was like, at least 10 yards away from him shooting

WITNESS (8:32 – 8:40): – and I’m thinking that – the dude was still standing – I’m thinking that he was missing him. Then he kept coming towards him [inaudible].

WITNESS (8:40 – 8:51): – he broke off running. Because I’m telling [inaudible] his partner ran through. His partner ran through here man, it looked to me [inaudible] that way.

What I want to focus attention toward is the statement within the eye witness account when the unknown witness says:

WITNESS (8:40 – 8:51): – he broke off running. Because I’m telling [inaudible] his partner ran through. His partner ran through here man, it looked to me [inaudible] that way.

So lets figure out what “that way” is.

When you eliminate the variable of what “that way” is not, it leads to very few possibilities.
The audio is picking up his voice. Therefore he must be within 10′ of the recording device which we know is a cell phone.
The video was captured in portrait mode. So we know the phone was turned toward the scene imaged.
This means the microphone was directed back toward the person holding the phone.

The sounds are therefore most likely behind the camera holder.
So, the audio capture is within 10 feet, and it’s behind the camera holder.
This is the location of the camera holder and the most likely location of the mystery witness.

WITNESS (8:40 – 8:51): – he broke off running. Because I’m telling [inaudible] his partner ran through. His partner ran through here man, it looked to me [inaudible] that way.

Combining the witnesses general location when he is saying those words we can now add a few more “knowns”.
Known #1) We know Dorian Johnson lives two buildings behind the audio/video recording.
Known #2) We know Dorian Johnson “claimed” to have gone home and “thrown up”.
Known #3) We generally know Dorian was hiding behind a “two-door white vehicle” which was located near the fire hydrant and partially on the sidewalk on the North Side of Canfield Drive, to the rear of Officer Wilson’s SUV. (Michael Brady witness statement and Dorian Statement)
Known #4) At a point prior to Big Mike being shot, he told Dorian to “Run”. (Dorian statement)
Known #5) The second officer arrives on the scene between 12:03:00 and 12:04:00
Known #6) Witness Michael Brady begins his recording around 12:04:00 because you can see the 2nd unit discussion and the 2nd unit move into position on the East side of Mike Brown’s body.
Known #7) Dorian is NOT visible in Michael Brady’s video. Nor is the White 2-door vehicle originally noticed by Brady.
Known #8) Doran and the White Vehicle both moved between 12:02 and 12:04.
Known #9) There is only one road OUT of the entire complex and back on to West Flourissant.

Occam’s Razor Assumptions:

#1) Dorian would not run toward Officer Wilson (Southeast).
#2) Dorian would not run toward BigMike Brown. (East)
#3) Dorian would seek to avoid detection wherever he would run.
#4) Dorian would not run due WEST down the middle of the street into oncoming police.
This generally only leaves Dorian with two options.
Option ONE – Head North West toward the Grassy Knoll and Michael Brady.

Or

Option TWO – Head North East around Wilson SUV, toward the back of the apartment across the street – and loop around the back way in the general direction of his apartment.

(*Coincidentally noting – the same direction that might have been taken by a white 2-door Monte Carlo noted in the Western parking lot of the apartment building)

Which ever route was taken, due to the rapid influx of arriving police vehicles – Dorian would not have been safe crossing Canfield Drive to get back to his apartment if he stayed on the North side.
Within minutes the police had an initial perimeter established.
So which direction did he go?

WITNESS (8:40 – 8:51): – he broke off running. Because I’m telling [inaudible] his partner ran through. His partner ran through here man, it looked to me [inaudible] that way.

My theory is that Dorian did indeed use the cover of the White Car and Officer Wilson’s vehicle to cross the street and take off behind the apartment building on the South side of Canfield Drive.
This would take him behind the building, perhaps cutting through the trees, and directly toward his apartment.

WITNESS (8:40 – 8:51): – he broke off running. Because I’m telling [inaudible] his partner ran through. His partner ran through here man, it looked to me [inaudible] that way.

This would indicate the mystery witness was pointing South toward that back lot area, the fields, and ultimately to Dorian’s apartment.
This has profound implications regarding how Officer Darren Wilson would have evaluated the situation as both Big Mike and Dorian Johnson represented a threat.

Also – Could the mystery witness be “STEVE”? (@12:00 in the video above) The caller to the show who identifies himself as “Steve”.
There is a similar name “hey, Steve whassup” in the Black Canseco Video.
Blog Talk Radio “Steve” was on his porch and saw the whole thing. Black Canseco Video has a “Steve”, and then we hear the whole thing.
Coincidence ?
Also, regarding the previous considerations of the LA Times Video (aka BBQ grill in the trees, or Dorian in trees)
