crybabyFirst the FAIL –  TALLAHASSEE,  Fla. —Florida’s Republican-controlled Legislature is coming out solidly  against a special session to repeal the state’s “stand your ground” law.
The Department of State on  Wednesday released a list that showed more than half of the state’s 160-member  Legislature has already voted against the idea.
The vote was triggered  earlier after 33 legislators asked for a special session in writing. They were  urged to do so by the Dream Defenders group, which is upset with the July  verdict in the George Zimmerman case.
Under an obscure state  law, the written requests required an official poll. A yes vote by three-fifths  of the Legislature would have resulted in a special session.  (more)

TALLAHASSEE – Protesters who began a sit-in July 16 after the acquittal of George Zimmerman announced Thursday afternoon they will leave the Capitol.
The announcement comes amid reports that the Dream Defenders protesters and other critics of Florida’s “stand your ground” law don’t have enough political support to call lawmakers to Tallahassee for a special session on the topic.
Special-session supporters are losing by a more than 2-to-1 margin along party lines.
“No” votes are leading “yes” votes 55-25, according to results released Tuesday night by the Department of State, the Tampa Tribune reported.
Tuesday’s count suggests they won’t reach the three-fifths supermajority needed out of all 159 sitting legislators.
