Wednesday Open Thread – February 20th

Tomb of the Unknown ChristmasOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Sitting here today listening to the political talking heads in DC going on about how shocked they were – yes, SHOCKED!!!!! – at the Chinese PLA hacking into American IT systems and wholesale stealing American technological secrets. My old man’s phrase for these type folks was ‘they are as full of sh*t as a Christmas turkey’ and I have to agree 110%. If we slither back to the late 90s and the major joint military command I was stationed at our servers were taking hundreds of hacker hist a day, and if you sifted out the Russian and Chinese attacks you were left with just a teaspoon full from some pimple-faced kids living in their parents’ basements somewhere in California. Not that the Chinese military had to steal that much as the during the Clinton error – err, era – the US virtually projectile vomited strategic military technology into the Chinese’s outstretched hands. We gave them technology that moved their ICBMs from the Flintstones age to equal to current US missiles, we gave them GPS satellite technology as well as other technologies that would make their offensive ICBMs as accurate as ours, we gave them MIRV technology. We allowed them to buy US businesses that provided sensitive parts to national defense systems and allowed Chinese businesses to sell ICs to US defense companies that would be used in some of our most advanced weapons systems (that one is biting us in the ass big time). Ain’t the first time this sort of thing has happened – a few years back US defense contractors ended up buying huge loads of hi-strength fasteners (think grade-8 bolts) from ‘foreign’ (think China) firms that turned out to be so weak as to end up costing us millions to dig them out of our weapons systems. Then there was the incident of one of the government’s top agencies buying phony Cisco servers (guess where they were made???) and installing them in sensitive areas and facilities
Senator Foghorn Leghorn is quoted as saying: “SHOCKED! SHOCKED I tell you that such perfidious goings on could..well,.. go on…while my fellow Congresspersons and I are busy counting our leftover campaign contributions”. The Chinese have been playing us for fools for decades now; anyone out there got any ideas on what those 500-plus Slobovian vaudeville rejects are doing in Dc while the Republic crumbles?

    • What really frightens me is that I remember reading stuff like this during the Bush era. That means no matter who is in charge at the top, it will continue. There is a plan. I guess that would constitute a conspiracy theory. Sorry.

Yes, I watched it roll on from the 80s through my retirement in 2007. Part of it was those in power saw China as a military counterweight to the Russians, political thought was that the Russians would go broke faster if they saw both the Chinese and the US as strategic threats and had to spend $$$ to defend against both. That one came back to bite us big time as the Chinese saw themselves first as a regional power and now as an emerging global military power. They bought strategic lift and tanker aircraft from the Russians to become proficient at military power projection abroad while they develop their own line of strategic lift craft. They’ve been dogging our, Russian, French and British special operations folk around the world, stealing or buying as much information on their operations as they can to develop their own SpecOps tactics and counter operations. They’ve developed their own line of GPS and comms sats for their military and hold that attacking them is an act of war while openly developing and testing their own anti-satellite equipment. They have developed the manufacturing base that allowed the US to prevail over the Germans and Soviets while we have allowed our to slip away. Yes, we hop up and down about illegal Mexicans crossing our borders but ignore the Chinese because they make such good consumer junk. Sometime this spring the Pentagon will release its annual report on Chinese military strength and intentions and as usual the overwhelming majority of the US public – which includes Congress – will ignore it. What you don’t see is the classified version of the same report that’s a lot more detailed and much scarier. Expect the Chinese, sometime in the next 50 or so years, to have assumed the position on the world stage that the US has held for the last nearly 100 years. They will virtually control the UN as we did and call the shots. They will challenge us for supremacy of the sea as the ‘protectors’ of the international shipping lanes – after all they do most of the shipping – and adopt a Monroe Doctrine that has them as the primary force in the Pacific through the Indian oceans. They’ve already declared themselves primary protectors (owners) of the China Seas, a move that’s pushing Japan even closer to becoming a nuclear power. I know I obsess about them but I’m a firm believer in Douglas MacArthur’s warnings about them – predictions that are coming true. Teach your kids and grandkids to speak Chinese.

Sell outs. I believe that once the skells get elected to high office they cease to become American public servants and get carried away, morphing into greedy self-serving internationalist sh*ts.

I’m here in Phoenix Arizona and it actually SNOWED big time here today! Not 40 miles north by the mountains but like here IN TOWN and in most of the suburbs too (sadly the snow missed mine)! The streets were covered with snow where it made actual like snow tracks in the road? Not sure what to call it? My facebook was just filled with everyone’s Phoenix snow pics today. Lived here my whole life and it’s never snowed like this in town.

Wonder how “warm” Phoenix’s next winter will be hmmmmm?

Horse meat was considered a delicacy (may still be) in Italy at one time. I think it was because after WWII, that was all they had, beef being in short supply. They were pushing horse meat in England too after the war.

Seeing as how my palate is not very refined, I for one will take a pass on the equine protein. Ol’ Bessie, Bambi, Foghorn Leghorn or Charlie the Tuna for me!

Have you ever seen the British show, Supersizers? It was running on the Cooking Channel, and is available on Hulu, if you have it. The premise: They would take a period in history, then for a week would adopt the clothing, practices, and food of the period. One they did was WWII – all about substitutes, rationing etc. Meat and meat substitutes were particularly interesting. That’s where I learned about the horse meat in England. It’s a really good show – the woman is a comedian, and the man is a food critic.

They did the 20′s, 60′s, 80′s, WWII, Elizabethan, Roman Empire, Louis XVI France, and lots more.

I’ll even go with SPAM, but unless there is no alternative to horses, cats and dogs, I’m stickin’ with what I know. I’ll have to see if I can find that show. We don’t have Hulu. Maybe in 2017 or so, since we live about five years in the past. :)

I’ve been reading a lot about this over the last couple of years and it doesn’t seem to get much play anywhere. Fishing quota’s all along the eastern seaboard have been lowered and lowered since Teh Won came into being. You’re gonna see prices for fish start to spike pretty soon and a lot of the Gordon’s Fishermen will prolly be out of work.

Judges Life time Appointments? That’s not Fair ;-( That’s a Lifetime Sentence!
That’s Not Fair to the Supremes and to their families. How can anyone expect them to be impartial? You can’t. You would have to live in a bubble.

With the advance of our new technology, we should “Move On” “Forward,” and replace the Supremes with computers. A Constitution Original Intent Computer Program, can be written by Constitutional Scholars which would include the Declaration of Independence, and all the Founding Fathers’ documents. This will eliminate any bias. The Law minus the Emotion.

The cost of the “Original Intent Constitutional Program,” and the Computer Systems setup, will be paid by using the salaries from the dismissed judges. It’s a no brainer. It’s a win-win situation.

“Law enforcement has not said why the people were arrested nor who they are.”

Here’s another way to work around the lib media:

    http://cnsnews.com/news/article/times-square-billboards-it-s-time-liberal-media-stop-censoring-news

The Media Research Center (MRC), a conservative watchdog group that tracks liberal bias in the news, rented five large billboards in Times Square over the weekend as part of its “Stop Censoring the News” campaign to educate the public about how certain media outlets apparently are spinning their coverage or simply censoring news critical of the Obama administration to protect and promote a liberal agenda.

I visited with the staff of the local ambulance service this afternoon for awhile. She said they are already seeing significant impact in how they provide services and how obamacare is impacting their ability to continue with current services indefinitely.

Also on the regional news today–there’s a certain grouping of hospitals within the state that are limited in their billing/reimbursement/services options–probably something to do with Medicaid–and they are announcing tens of millions in “losses” and impacts already because of the regulations coming at them. They are projecting the known, additional reductions in reimbursements for services they are required to provide will, within a few years, make it impossible for them to operate.

We had a good conversation. I thought that her demeanor and willingness to talk plainly about the backbreaking regs and bank-breaking reimbursements/costs was quite different from what I’ve seen over the past few years. Maybe those who are “stuck inside the system” on the service end of things are going to realize there is a significant portion of the public that stands ready to support them and hopes they will speak up.

Since we fund planned parenthood does that mean we’re going to fund this lawsuit? BTW this is beyond horrible what they did to this woman and although nobody deserves what happened to her I have to say it bothers me that the only reason she wanted to back out was because she was not going to be given anesthesia. The poor baby was going to be ripped apart without nobody seeming to care about it’s pain. But just maybe people will wake up and realize pp doesn’t care about women, they care about killing babies and making money while doing so.
