Saturday Open Thread – January 19th

Tomb of the Unknown ChristmasOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

A few of my favorite comments, “Obama should ban evaporation.”
The Martians destroyed their planet by driving SUVs and eating fast food.
          The guns killed the water.
John Kerry’s yacht is parked there, those progressives will do anything to avoid paying taxes.
They should have listened to Al Gore and their planet would have been saved.

Reading the comments, these people really are stupid. For instance one comment was there was a ban, why didn’t people freak out then? Well for one people did freak out and that was one of the reasons it ended up not being as bad as it could have been and most knew they dodged a bullet because they were so stupid they didn’t really ban anything other than cosmetic features. Second, people freaked out so much democrats lost in such huge numbers that they became scared to even say gun and spent the next 20 something years playing ads showing what a sportsman they were and how much they loved guns and doing their best to get good ratings with the NRA. Third, gun owners have read the Feinstein bill and they realize this is a ban on all of our guns. Fourth, they’ve educated themselves on Barack Obama and realize he’s a communist and unfortunately for them there are still enough who were taught history.

Another comment was I’m pro gun but I don’t understand this, there is no competition shooting that requires more than a 10 round clip. Can they not educate themselves and understand the 2nd amendment is not about competition or hunting?

I was looking for a Sousa march video to post, and found this instead. It’s the history of our National Anthem – a story we should all know and be proud of.

The story behind the National Anthem (Isaac Asimov):

      http://www.sodahead.com/fun/the-story-behind-the-national-anthem-by-isaac-asimov/blog-43048/#comments

The fourth stanza, a pious hope for the future,
should be sung more slowly than the other three and with even deeper
      feeling:

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war’s desolation,
Blest with vict’ry and peace, may the Heav’n – rescued land
Praise the Pow’r that hath made and preserved us a nation.

Then conquer we must, for our cause is just,
And this be our motto–“In God is our trust.”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

I hope you will look at the national anthem with new eyes.
Listen to it, the next time you have a chance, with
      new ears.

And don’t let them ever take it away.

This scares the beejeepers outta me. My youngest son is on a compound much like this one in …never mind, I’m too paranoid to even say where he is. I had typed out specifics by deleted it all.

Suffice it to say I’m terrified and want him home, NOW!

    http://www.thenewamerican.com/usnews/item/14270-barack-obama-and-woodrow-wilson-sharing-a-progressive-plan

A fact that still baffles observers is that Barack Obama served a scant four years in Washington before becoming the national harbinger of hope and change. Prior to his partial term in the U.S. Senate, Obama spent seven years in the Illinois State Senate, during which time he ran a failed campaign for Congress in 2000.

Wilson burst onto the scene quickly, as well. Before being elected governor of New Jersey in 1910, he never held elective office on any level. Somehow, the lack of experience didn’t keep him from winning the White House a mere two years later.

In addition to their belief in war as an effective tool for shaping the world according to their own progressive political views, Obama and Wilson perpetrated their progressive policies on domestic affairs, as well.

If we are able to sustain and survive until 2016 and get rid of obama, we will not have gotten rid of the national termites and international ideologues who want to destroy this nation. obama is a TOOL; he is NOT the problem.

The more I read, the more the documentation piles up that the exact methods and points of view that he has used have been actively at work for well over one hundred years: same goals, same desires, same guilt/intimidation tactics. There is nothing new about what’s happening. obama just hit a freshly fertilized political field with all the white guilt that had been sown since the 1960s, but the rest of it? Absolutely nothing new.

Whatever happens, let us not allow a fresh layer of deception (or accept it ourselves) that if we get rid of him and his immediate gang that we’ve solved the problem. Hatred of liberty and free people is as old as the hills, and that hatred will survive his sorry life and his destructive reign.

The greatest frustration: wonderful, secure, strong America was deceived with a compulsion to win friends and influence enemies.

America’s sworn ideological enemies from every corner of the globe made use of the ignorance, the overconfidence and the over-niceness–and is bringing her to the slaughterhouse now.

      A few good quotes:
“One loves to possess arms, though they hope never to have occasion for them.”
Thomas Jefferson Letter to George Washington, 1796

“When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.”
      Thomas Jefferson (attributed without source)

“God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion…. And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms…. The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.”
Thomas Jefferson, letter to William Stephens Smith, November 13, 1787; “The Works of Thomas Jefferson,” Federal Edition (New York and London, G.P. Putnam’s Sons, 1904-5) Vol. 5
“…It is always dangerous to the liberties of the people to have an army stationed among them, over which they have no control…The Militia is composed of free Citizens. There is therefore no danger of their making use of their power to the destruction of their own Rights, or suffering others to invade them.”
      Samuel Adams
“…but if circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude, that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people, while there is a large body of citizens, little if at all inferior to them in discipline and use of arms, who stand ready to defend their rights…”
      Alexander Hamilton Federalist 29

These Democrats are your prototypical, power-hungry elitists who despise the very citizenry they purport to serve.

They want to label certain things “assault weapons”?

Well, here it is: I’m labeling every current member of the Democrat Party an assault weapon on the Constitution.

For a man who grew up in Arkansas he certainly is out of touch with not only Arkansans but rural America as well. “A lot of these people … all they’ve got is their hunting and their fishing,” he told the Democratic financiers. “Or they’re living in a place where they don’t have much police presence. Or they’ve been listening to this stuff for so long that they believe it all.”
