Sunday Open Thread – March 18th

In Memoriam 1969 – 2012

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

From the “Politics Makes Strange Bedfellows” file, comes this: Jews defending the use of Sharia law in Florida!

    http://www.americanthinker.com/2012/03/sharia_victory_in_florida_threatens_human_rights.html

    Unbelievable!

    • texan59 says:

Doesn’t the ADL represent the leftist segment of Jews? As I recall, Abe Foxman is pretty much an extension of Teh Won and his views. Weird though. Mornin’ all. Moving a wee bit slower than normal. :D

      • barnslayer says:

I remember getting a mailer from them. I emailed them asking how they stood regarding the 2nd Amendment considering the Holocaust, etc. As I remember, they claimed to have no official stance on the matter. B.S.

    • barnslayer says:

The rationale of the Florida Jews with this is totally off. The notion the law would also include any Jewish laws is asinine. Jews have laws which dictate diet and behavior. Those laws vary depending on reformed, conservative, orthodox etc. But in no way does this have anything to do with our court system or physical punishment. Break a law and the worst that may happen is you finding yourself looking for a new synagogue. It also carries no weight on non-Jews. This is appeasement pure and simple.

    • This is why I couldn’t understand Pamela Geller’s claim that Act of Valor was “anti-Jewish.” The fact that the drug-smuggler was ethnically Jewish, and a traitor to the cause, isn’t that unrealistic or necessarily a smear on Jews. George Soros is ethnically Jewish, and he was a Nazi collaborator. In reality, Jews have the same problem that all people (including Americans) have. Sometimes, they are their own worst enemy. Not the case right now, though, since the potus is clearly their worst enemy. And ours.

Lest we worry about the bad stuff all day, enjoy my favorite nostalgia and design blog, Phil Are Go!. We’re all old enough here to fall in love with this slightly-odd look at the past through the lens of vintage ads and media.

Go enjoy… politics and all that other rot will still be there later! :-)

What did Obama do on Friday? Well, he just screwed Civil Liberties…. again. Hell, even Hitler needed the Reichstag to give him “emergency powers”.

    http://www.independentsentinel.com/2012/03/hello-republicans-where-are-you-the-president-is-nationalizing-everything-with-an-eo/

Imagine if GWB had done this. However, since it was Teh Chosen One, nary a word from the MSM. Why hasn’t Ed Schlitz or “Tingles” Matthews opined about this?

As any despot or someone making an end-run on freedom knows, it’s often not so much what you say, as how you say it. To wit:

These SOBs have no shame, do they?

Have you read Ann’s story from yesterday about the new EO released Friday? None of this stuff is by accident. I’ve got to get more al-u-minium foil! Stat. :(

For those of you who like historical photos, here is a 172-page (and still going) thread of photos from WWII, many from the Bundesarchiv in Germany. Unfortunately, most have no captions, although the Bundesarchiv images have a date, photographer and reference number on them.

Pretty scary stuff you guys are sharing this morning. For a little change of pace… Reports from Butte, America’s St. Pat’s parade are encouraging. Butte is the heart of the Democrat Party in Montana – and so pro-union, you wouldn’t believe. The Obama team that marched in the parade yesterday was booed several times along the route. Trust me that’s a HUGE indication of how much the worm has turned among the union MEMBERS. Democrats is this state are very worried.

  10. From a friend’s wall:

A woman from Los Angeles, who was a tree hugger, a liberal Democrat, and an anti-hunter, purchased a piece of timberland near Colville, WA. There was a large tree on one of the highest points in the tract. She wanted a good view of the natural splendor of her land so she started to climb the big tree. As she neared the top she encountered a spotted owl that attacked her.

In her haste to escape, the woman slid down the tree to the ground and got many splinters in her crotch. In considerable pain, she hurried to a local ER to see a doctor. She told him she was an environmentalist, a democrat, and an anti-hunter and how she came to get all the splinters. The doctor listened to her story with great patience and then told her to go wait in the examining room and he would see if he could help her.

She sat and waited three hours before the doctor reappeared. The angry woman demanded, “What took you so long?” He smiled and then told her, “Well, I had to get permits from the Environmental Protection Agency, the Forest Service, and the Bureau of Land Management before I could remove old-growth timber from a “recreational area” so close to a waste treatment facility. I’m sorry, but due to Obama-Care they turned you down!”

    • solaratov says:

This quote was translated into English from an article appearing in the Czech Republic as published in the Prager Zeitung of 28 April 2010.

“The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting an inexperienced man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama Presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their President. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America . Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their President.”

      • Bears repeating over and over.

      • texan59 says:

“It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their President”.

And therein lies the problem that has been fermenting for the last 50 years. Dumb ‘em down and give them free stuff and you can stay in power forever.

        • Wraith says:

So when, exactly, do the adults stop listening to the fools and take back control? :?

          • texan59 says:

We’re trying. There are three or four generations out there who are really learing how to enjoy the fruits of our labor. The hard part is going to be getting the message out with no help from the media and lily-livered pols on our side who are too scared to call it what it is.

Could there be a lot more oil out there that we don’t know about?

    • WeeWeed says:

Yep. But EPA won’t let us go get it.

      • texan59 says:

If they won’t let you fill in low spots in your own yard, they sure as heck aren’t gonna let us drill for oil. Might hurt a lizard or a toad.

I have wondered about this for a long time, but I don’t have many peeps in the oil bidness anymore. Even if I did, I probably wouldn’t understand what they were talking about most of the time. :D

They’ve been touting the whole peak oil meme for nearly 80-90 years now and you hear a LOT about that.

This is so sad, I saw it posted on FB tonight.

“I dont care who dont like my husband if they dont like him its too bad i married him they didnt he dont treat me bad,he doesn,t hit me nor does he do anything wrong so you can get over it”

    • WeeWeed says:

???? In regard to what, T? What a thing.

      • texan59 says:

There was nothing else there. No response to any other comments that I could see. Based on my recollections of the family, there is a distinct possibility that appliances might be on their front porch and not every vehicle in the yard will be in working order. So sad that people would air their laundry on a medium where lots of folks can see. :(

        • Well, in her defense she was sticking up for her guy. It’s pretty tempting when you’re getting it from all sides to just slap it up on the FB. Though it is kind of sad that she seems to think “he doesn’t hit me” is part of what makes him okay.

          • texan59 says:

What is sad to me is that one feels the need to share with everyone out there. Kind of like the old “joke” – yeah, she might be a beotch, but she’s my beotch! Not really funny.

  20. Got to see baby John today!!! He’s beautiful. And my sister is doing well…we had a bit of a scare because she got very faint and her blood pressure dropped after they procedure. She’s fine today, thank You Jesus! As I was getting ready to leave I said “I just want to hold the baby one more time before I go.” Her bestie laughed and said “You realize it’s the second time you’ve done that, right?”

In other news, for you non-FB Treepers, from my wall:

My sister says to Jack “Come on and let’s give Mom Mom her present.” Jack runs up to Mom, says “You got a Kindle Fire!” then runs to the closet and pulls it out the Target bag and hands it to her, unwrapped.

    Uh…surprise?

  21. This is a day late, but here is an Irish toast I’d like to give all Treepers with iPhones.
