(Reuters) – Michigan Governor Rick Snyder on Friday formally declared Detroit in a fiscal emergency and said he had identified a top candidate to take over financial management of the destitute city.

The declaration virtually assures that the state of Michigan will assume control of Detroit’s books, though Snyder was careful to say there is still a window of 10 days for city leaders to convince him otherwise.

“I believe it’s appropriate to declare the city of Detroit in financial emergency,” Snyder told a forum of community leaders at a Detroit public television station.

Detroit has faced the steepest population decline of any major American city in recent decades. Once the fifth largest U.S. city, which shone as the birthplace of the U.S. automotive industry and Motown music, it now ranks 18th in size with about 700,000 people – after suffering a 25 percent decline in population between 2000 and 2010. The sequester is not an actual “cut” to the non-existent budget.  It is a reduction in the size of the actual increase in spending.   But if you listened to the Obama administration and the water-carrying media – you’d think the end of the world was afore us.  Pfffffttt !

“The American people are fed up. We have all of this outrageous activity going on. And, they’re releasing illegal criminals. Because this is not arrest and release people. These are people who have been held for a reason… No one has contacted my office. No one has reached out. Earlier in the week – The federal government released groups of illegal immigrants from custody across the country Monday at the same time the White House was making its case that impending budget cuts would harm efforts to protect the border and enforce federal immigration laws.

Advocates reported “waves” of illegal immigrants being released from at least three detention centers in Texas, Florida and Louisiana.

U.S. Immigration Customs and Enforcement confirmed the release of some illegal immigrants Monday night but would not say how many or from which detention centers. (more…)

In an epic interview for the ages, a Democratic congressman unloaded on Fox News anchor Sean Hannity Tuesday night with a non-stop verbal assault on the popular host.

If Rand Paul runs for office in 2016 I will remind every one of his supporters of this decision….. until like the Paulbots they are left with nothing but spit.   Chuck Hagel is insufferably unqualified for Secretary of Defense.

WASHINGTON DC – Chuck Hagel won confirmation Tuesday to become defense secretary over objections to his views on Middle East security and the administration’s handling of an attack on a U.S. consulate in Libya.

On a 58 to 41 vote, the Senate confirmed the former GOP senator as four Republicans joined 54 Democrats in approving Hagel, ending a nearly two-month battle that included an unprecedented filibuster against the nominee.

The four Republican senators voting in favor were Thad Cochran (Miss.), Mike Johanns (Neb.), Richard C. Shelby (Ala.) and Rand Paul (Ky.). All 41 no votes came from Republicans. (more…)
