AFGHANISTAN – Taliban attack kills at least two U.S. Marines in Afghanistan  – At least two U.S. Marines were killed during what was described as a complex Taliban attack on base in southern Afghanistan, U.S. officials told Reuters on Friday, speaking on condition of anonymity.  The incident at Camp Bastion in southern Helmand province also left others wounded, the officials said, without offering further details, including on the nationalities of the wounded.  (more details)

White House Continues The “Movie” ploy – Google rejects White House request to pull Mohammad film clip – Google Inc rejected a request by the White House on Friday to reconsider its decision to keep online a controversial YouTube movie clip that has ignited anti-American protests in the Middle East.  The Internet company said it was censoring the video in India and Indonesia after blocking it on Wednesday in Egypt and Libya, where U.S. embassies have been stormed by protestors enraged over depiction of the Prophet Mohammad as a fraud and philanderer.  (details)

(The Independent)  The killings of the US ambassador to Libya and three of his staff were likely to have been the result of a serious and continuing security breach, The Independent can reveal.

American officials believe the attack was planned, but Chris Stevens had been back in the country only a short while and the details of his visit to Benghazi, where he and his staff died, were meant to be confidential.

The US administration is now facing a crisis in Libya. Sensitive documents have gone missing from the consulate in Benghazi and the supposedly secret location of the “safe house” in the city, where the staff had retreated, came under sustained mortar attack. Other such refuges across the country are no longer deemed “safe”. (more…)

The first action President Obama took to create the mess was his specific and intentional refusal to support the Iranian freedom movement “Green Party” in February 2009; the second was the follow-up Cairo speech.   It all went downhill from there.

The broader Middle-East was, and is, a Zoo where the “big cats” were only stopped from eating the public passers-through – by the cages built by the dictators (Zookeepers).

The June 2009 Cairo speech by President Obama was the second indication of “new American intent”, and a laissez-faire perspective of indifference, to the rabid Islamist ideologues in the Middle East.   The brutal hate mongering wing of the Islamists (jihadists, al-Qaeda, Muslim Brotherhood, extremists in all forms et al) were only held in check by the brute, albeit gruesome at times, strength and whip of the zookeepers.

It may be true the murdering extremists are only a small faction, a sub-set, of the greater islamic zoo; but they are the top of the food chain, and if not kept in check it was obvious for decades they would willingly destroy their surroundings and then seek more turf. (more…)

Anyone noticing a “trend” here.   The same flawed logic that led to Brian Terry’s death is also at work in Egypt.   Marines not permitted to carry live ammunition, and instead forced to use bean bags and pixie dust.

(Via WFB) U.S. Marines defending the American embassy in Egypt were not permitted by the State Department to carry live ammunition, limiting their ability to respond to attacks like those this week on the U.S. consulate in Cairo.

Ambassador to Egypt Anne Patterson “did not permit U.S. Marine guards to carry live ammunition,” according to multiple reports on U.S. Marine Corps blogs spotted by Nightwatch. “She neutralized any U.S. military capability that was dedicated to preserve her life and protect the US Embassy.” (more…)

Attorney General Eric Holder said that Justice Department officials had opened a criminal investigation into the deaths of the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other diplomats killed during an attack on the American mission in Benghazi. (Reuters) — Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi asked the Egyptian embassy in Washington to take legal action in the United States against makers of a film attacking the Muslim Prophet Mohammad, the official state news agency said on Wednesday.

Morsi had requested the mission take “all legal measures”, the MENA agency said, without giving further details on what that might involve.  (read more)
