Detroit hasn’t elected a white mayor since 1970.  That was Roman Gribbs, a Democrat.   Gribbs served as an assistant prosecutor from 1956 to 1964 and as sheriff of Wayne County in 1968 and 1969 before deciding to run for mayor.  Gribbs was mayor for one term, declining to seek re-election.

This was America at the height of her powers; a Golden Age of Aviation when not two or three, but rather ten or twelve major companies were locked in mortal competition to push the engineering envelope. Virtually all of the existing aviation records for speed and altitude were set in the sixties, or in other words, at about the halfway point in aviation history. That’s depressing. To me, anyway.
