One dead and priests rushed to hospital after mass stabbing at abbey in Poland

One person has died and four others have been injured after a horror attack at an abbey during mass.
The suspect is believed to have used a “long machete” in the terrifying attack at the Benedictine Sisters’ Monastery in Jaroslaw, a town in southeastern Poland near the Ukraine border. Two other people are reportedly fighting for their lives after the attack.
Priests are among those injured according to local reports. A 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen has been detained, police said, following the attack at around 9.30am local time (8.30am BST) today.
Anna Długosz, of the Jarosław County Police Headquarters, said: “Preliminary findings indicate that a man stabbed four men and a woman.” Polish outlet TVN24 reports that the four men are clergy, while no details have been given about the injured woman.
When asked if the female victim was a nun, Ms Długosz said the police didn’t have “much information” at that moment. However, Małgorzata Taciuch-Kurasiewicz, spokeswoman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Przemyśl, said: “Both lay people and clergy who attended Mass at the abbey were involved in the incident.”
