The HARDWARE and it’s machine code are the core of it all. There is not a single thing unique about “AI” Software vs SOFTWARE that has been written for well over 50 YEARS, it is still just rules, instructions and math. Fster processing Hardware allows for more complex sets of instructions and algorithms as processing capabilities allow for 1,000’s if not Millions more operations pers second to give the “human” like response times with more accurate answers. The oldest SOFTWARE programs will look like “AI” running on today’s hardware.
SIMPLEST of EXAMPLES from over 40 years ago are AUTOMATED Chess Programs. the more time allotted to a Computer Chess Opponent to cycle through possibilities … the stronger the Computer opponent. In 1985, the feature was called “deep think”.

Totally agree. I have been saying similar here the last few weeks. I knew Ken Thompson when he was at Bell Labs UNIX Development Lab in Murray Hill, NJ. AI (of all flavors) or whatever you want to call it runs on UNIX based OSes developed by Ken and others back in the early 1970s. AI is extremely hardware dependent. Speed and Storage Capacity is its strength. The info it spits out needs to be strongly vetted. Most information hasn’t been digitized and AI can’t know what has been lost to time. If challenged it will admit to its vast weaknesses.
Bell Labs scientists and engineers were the smartest in the world back in the day. I worked with them and witnessed it firsthand.
I learned the basics of LISP and Prolog back in the 70’s. Every year my employer would ask us to analyze how we could use AI on what ever our current project was at the time. The answer, well until I retired, was always pretty much the same: Customers would not use it because it was too slow, needed too much memory and too much CPU. The executables were not 1:1 or OnTo , testing results were not consistent, code was hard & error prone to debug and modify.
Now, massive unlimited amounts of CPU, memory , storage, electric power and money is no object for AI. Where does the money come from? What product is being sold? Who is buying it?

I use AI chess programs as an oversimplified explanation of AI to folks – take a data base of every recorded chess game – move by move. Every move the human makes, the computer finds all possible counter moves based on winning games – repeat, repeat repeat.

I have come to rely on the regulars here even though I never was thought of as one of them. The discourse and exchange of ideas here was and still is in many ways, first class. God and Truth is honored here and that is very hard to find these days anywhere information is exchanged. It’s amazing how my thoughts politically and life wise were added to by this site.

I have been housebound for a week after an ankle injury and I have spent much of my idle time reading and watching media representing all varieties of political opinions. Of course, it is obvious that the anti-American vitriol from the Dems/leftists voluminously overwhelms the patriotic commentary from the right.
A close look at the left’s highly public and very vocal baseline themes, to include encouragement of: violent protests; presidential assassination attempts and thanksgiving for the murder of Charlie Kirk; judicial lawfare; legislative obstructionism; moral depravity; support for illegal immigration and attacks upon the completely legitimate ICE mission; antisemitism; destruction of America’s Constitution and Christianity-based culture; and dogged commitment to election theft by voter fraud (aided by John Thune and his RINO cabal in the Senate) collectively appear to me as certainly resulting in a highly dangerous, physical, near-term clash between extremists on both ends of the political spectrum. I don’t know how widely such behavior might spread.
Any of multiple, possible events among the aforementioned threats may catalyze an outbreak of anarchy. I perceive, perhaps and hopefully wrongly, that such is the consensus, anticipated outcome of a majority of media commentators and commenters, both liberal and conservative, although conservative voices are far more obvious in their reluctance/fear of opining about violence.
I have come to accept that readiness should be a precept that closely follows Godliness.

A lot of us grew up in a bungalow or ranch home of 1200 to 1400 sq foot with one bathroom, a one stall garage and multiple children. Why does everyone need a 2500 sq ft home with a three car garage? Also the lower your home value, the less your property taxes.
Well, here in Austin, the average price of a new home is in the $400+ range. And those are what I’d call fixer uppers. Maybe start with a condo or townhouse, but those are pretty high too.
There many many regulatory strategies built into Agenda2030 to end single family home ownership. Mortgage, insurance, appraisals, building code, environmental and property tax regulations included.
Add those direct and indirect costs in and the hole gets deeper.
And, shortages of skilled labor for repair and maintenance? $$$$
When I bought my first house in the late 70’s I was paying 8+%. And that was a deal! A few years later rates skyrocketed. When I sold, I passed that 8% rate to the new owner. Unsure if I made any money or not when I sold a few years later but I needed a place to live (to own, not rent).

if one really works at it… paying off loans, early…is a difference maker.
In order to do so, what is being purchased does need to be well with in ones’ means to pay off the loan (payments way less than 30% of take home pay) , early.
So, do not over buy, including do not overload the convenient to use, credit card. Make the monthly payment – pay all it, monthly, each month.
So, get a trailor, small house (and used car) at the beginning, pay off the loans,
and
then incrementally work your way up
(bigger place, newer vehicle), over time (decades)….but always, be able to pay it off early.
( until you can become your own banker, via parallel savings, home equity, too etc. )
