I have Danish heritage and have spent recent years being sorry for that. But at least for this moment Denmark seems to be doing the right thing. They also now are talking about dealing with what they call “Islamisation”. It’s a step forward.
My grandparents on my mothers side immigrated from Denmark to Brooklyn after WW1. Their ship actually took them to the Danish West Indies where they had to work as indentured servants before going on to Ellis Island.
I remember them – fine moral, self reliant and hardworking. My grandfather had biggest of hearts ’til you crossed him – then the Viking blood kicked in. They worked as many jobs as they could to get out of immigrant housing, to a small home my grandfather built himself out on Long Island.
