i’ve used the healthcare.gov (Obamacare) policies a few times when between jobs, which were small enough employers that they were not required to provide COBRA.
The premiums were $800-$1200/month. I understand an employer pays a large part of employee premiums, but I doubt the premium for group employee insurance was that high. The only good thing about using healthcare.gov is they have to cover you, even if you have diabetes or other pre-existing conditions.
Not small businesses…. employers couldn’t afford such premiums… and thus their employees were gutted and they lost talent that had to go to bigger companies with cafeteria plans.
Yet… Pfizer… for instance, could still cover the cost of their insured employees and their dependents for $50/ month… no joke.
Uncovered pre-existing are still going to be covered… by bankruptcy attorneys or casket makers.

I lost my home… literally forced to sell it… over $30/ month…
Because I couldnt get some small job to cover a judgement against me regarding a child support order that was completely corrupt.
It is detailed and I’ve explained it before here… but there was a catch 22 predatory claw back in Obamacare that hit insureds at tax time costing tens of thousands of dollars.
For instance… I made $77 over my declared salary and was retroactively penalized $1800 claiming single and zero in my employment tax withholding.
A second year… a $13 difference… cost me $800!!!!
I was a sitting duck.
I know first hand because it happened to me. To me… and several others per my discussions with IRS managers forced to make those calls. And if you couldn’t leave your health plan.. which I legally couldn’t because my parenting plan required joint insurance.. we were totally screwed.
And you didn’t know you were screwed until you could do nothing about it. No parameters… no threshholds given or explained. Nor could anyone explain it to avoid the traps.
The IRS manager I spoke with… wanted me to speak to as many legislators as possible… but then COVID hit… to redirect the masses away from THEIR CRIMES.
I was a bookkeeper and HR and studied the health plans for our own company. I analyzed it from every direction. Obamacare was predatory and intended to steal wealth and keep people poor.
Then create hostility when our policy for two cost $700/ month while illegals raped the system for free and carried off the loot.

The $30/ month was what her Dad saved by suing me in child support and his income was well over $200k a year… as a Sr IT administrator for Pfizer.

If you/spouse never used public assistance, meaning your wife, you and your dependents, then the state Dept. of child support has no INTEREST in the way you and your family spend your money.
The 1996 Welfare Reform Act, which changed the statutes regarding child support, doesn’t state the rules for families who have NOT used public assistance on ordering child support. Therefore, the child support orders from a court against people who have no obligation to repay public assistance money back to the government are invalid. I’ve read the 1996 law. A bureaucrat decided to include those parents eligible for support orders even though the state/government had no interest the claim.
Its a weapon against parents and it needs to be eliminated.
Two different states – and child support has nothing to do with social services at all. Has nothing to do with my examples above, nor was anyone on public assistance. Obamacare was the only insurance that could be purchased by those who didn’t have an insurance offering through their employer. Parenting Plans – at least those generated in the state of Washington – require both parents to provide health insurance – thus the child(ren) are double-insured and the Rule of the Birthdays determines which policy takes the lead in coverage. Since the State REQUIRES health insurance – there is no backing out of Obamacare… if you’re staying in compliance with the law. So if you work for a small business – you are double-screwed. Screwed to be forced into ACA insurance and screwed by the predatory catch-22 within that prevents merit income increases due to the claw backs realized during tax season.

Many independent contractors and gig folks (across many fields) who do not have a spouse with corporate coverage use the exchanges. Exchanges do not provide for a “vast pool of illegals” and covid era premium subsidies ended.

My husband eventually went on Medicare but I am 10 years younger than him and my “affordable care” premiums were in the $1100 range before I finally went on Medicare!!!

This is not meant to undo all the harm Obamacare has inflicted on the country, but it’s a gesture in the right direction. During this same address, the president pressed congress to approve his new health plan and set us on a different path. That would be the true redress to the grievances Obamacare continues to engender.
Let’s be realistic – no one act or gesture is going to cure 12 years (8 for Obama, 4 for the faux-president puppet Biden) of Democrat governance. You can tear down in a night what might have taken years to build, and all the Democrats ever do is tear down, when they can take a breath from grifting. Oh – another promise of a check!
I hope those that are eligible to receive one do receive one, but my hunch is it’s more word salad as midterms draw close.
Folks can bitch and carry on all they want to, but the reality is actions like this refund and like the prospect of hoped for tariff dividend checks, will cause a lot of people ‘on the left’ to re-think their positions on tariffs and President Trump.
This in turn will lead a lot of them to rethink their voting decisions in November and going forward. That’s how it works.
As happened in 2024, when some secretly voted for President Trump, some who might have voted democrat will either change their minds and vote for the President’s policies and people, or, alternatively, simply stay home and not vote. This is not a bad thing.
President Trump knows people and he knows what he’s doing.
Let the man work.
