When the South Carolina congressman travelled to Wisconsin in 2024 to visit with poll workers and not candidates, no one seemed curious about the intent. When South Carolina had the opportunity to redistrict that same congressman, the professional republicans in the palmetto state protected him.
Now the organizer of the AME Church network of poll workers appears on NBC to say at the first available opportunity the Democrats should pack the court with another four leftist judges to ensure all of the constitutional restraints are removed from the judiciary. Yep, that’s James Clyburn.
Clyburn begins his remarks in this segment by decrying Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas for not adhering to the manipulative racial expectations of his position. Clyburn then advocates for adding as many justices as needed in order to advance his agenda. WATCH:
[Transcript] – KRISTEN WELKER: Welcome back. Joining me now is Democratic Congressman James Clyburn of South Carolina. Congressman Clyburn, welcome back to Meet the Press.
REP. JAMES CLYBURN: Well, thank you very much for having me back.
KRISTEN WELKER:
Well, thank you so much for being here. I do want to start with what we just heard from Senator Cruz. We were talking about, of course, Justice Clarence Thomas. In 1991, you actually testified in favor of Clarence Thomas’s confirmation to the Supreme Court. I want to play a little bit of that video.
[BEGIN TAPE]
REP. JAMES CLYBURN:
It’s a pleasure for me to be here today to present testimony in favor of my good friend, Clarence Thomas. I have known Clarence for ten years and I consider him to be a personal and professional friend, in spite of the fact that he shares a conservative Republican philosophy.
[END TAPE]
KRISTEN WELKER:
Do you stand by your decision to make the case for Clarence Thomas’s confirmation?
REP. JAMES CLYBURN:
Absolutely not. You know, I have made mistakes in my life, and that’s one that I made. And I will own up to that mistake. The fact of the matter is I had faith and confidence in the fact that his background and experiences would instruct him in his professionalism, especially sitting on the bench. We had worked together when he was chair of the Equal Opportunity Commission. And of course, I was running the state agency here in South Carolina. We had differences over how that agency should run. But I also thought that he believed in precedents of the law. And I felt sure that he would be there upholding those precedents set down in 1954 in the Broad v. Board of Education decision. I thought that he would follow those court decisions that upheld the Voting Rights Act, the Civil Rights Act. I had no idea that Clarence Thomas would rebel the way he has against his own background and experiences. He was raised by his grandfather and he has shown very little sensitivity to the environment his grandfather grew up, down in Pin Point, Georgia, just south of where I now sit. And so yes, that was a mistake on my part and I own up to it.
KRISTEN WELKER:
Okay, well, since we are on the topic of the court, let’s speak more broadly about it. Former Vice President Kamala Harris shares some of your criticisms, clearly. She’s called for expanding the Supreme Court from nine justices to 13. Do you support adding four more seats to the Supreme Court, Congressman?
REP. JAMES CLYBURN:
Yes, I do. I think that we are in a position now that calls from some significant actions taken by the Congress, and we ought to expand — and 13 is a pretty good number. A baker’s dozen would be a good number to have on the court. And I would hope we would get people on the court who will follow the constitutional underpinnings of this great nation of ours. The 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments have been interpreted different ways over the years. And we had in the Warren Court an interpretation of those amendments that I thought would be set for the future of the country. We have now a Supreme Court that has decided to reverse course, and take this country back, I say, to those rulings of Justice Taney, that said that no Black man has any rights that the white man must respect. That was the Supreme Court that made that decision. I had hoped that Clarence Thomas would follow the mordant underpinnings of that constitution of ours, but he has not done so. In fact, he’s decided to go all the way from an angry leftist to a very angry rightist.
KRISTEN WELKER:
Okay. Let’s talk about the midterms and let’s talk about your state of South Carolina. Senator Darline Graham, as you know, the sister of the late Senator Lindsey Graham, did win her primary. She’s going to be facing off against Dr. Annie Andrews, the Democrat running in that Senate race. Do you believe Dr. Andrews can win given that no Democrat has won that Senate seat since the 1990s, Congressman?
REP. JAMES CLYBURN:
I do believe Dr. Andrews can win, and I do believe that she will win. The only thing that would stop her from winning this race is for us to not do our part to turn out the vote. I have said before, and people seem to misrepresent this: we have to do a better job of turning our base voters out. When the other side is turning out 71% and we are turning out 59%, we need to take stock of why that is happening. But that did happen in the last election. I take some responsibility for that. I’ve been working on that very vigilantly. I spent yesterday and the day before, and I’ll be spending time this afternoon working on the turn out the vote effort –
KRISTEN WELKER:
Alright.
REP. JAMES CLYBURN:
– that I think will update what we’ve been doing in the last few years, and make for a much better turnout. And if that were to happen, I think that Dr. Andrews will do well in this election.
KRISTEN WELKER:
Congressman Clyburn, I had the opportunity to interview Leader Hakeem Jeffries and he has not ruled out impeaching President Trump should Democrats take back control of the House. But some Democrats have said to me privately that that would just be a distraction, to impeach President Trump for a third time. Do you believe Democrats should impeach President Trump if they take back the House?
REP. JAMES CLYBURN:
If the Democrats were to take back the House, and I feel confident that we will, our first order of business ought to be developing an accessible and affordable campaign effort that will yield what I will call making this country, its greatness, accessible and affordable for all of its citizens –
KRISTEN WELKER:
Do you rule out impeachment?
REP. JAMES CLYBURN:
I don’t want to forget about the American people.
KRISTEN WELKER:
Do you rule out supporting impeachment?
REP. JAMES CLYBURN:
I don’t rule it out, but I don’t rule it in. No, I don’t. But I don’t think that should be our priority if we get into office. Our priority ought to be making housing, education, energy, healthcare affordable and accessible for all of our citizens. Impeaching the president will not do that. We need to focus on what is necessary to make education available for our children, making healthcare affordable for our children, making housing affordable, making energy affordable. That’s where the focus ought to be.
KRISTEN WELKER:
Okay. Congress —
REP. JAMES CLYBURN:
And we can walk and chew gum at the same time, and maybe do both.
KRISTEN WELKER:
All right. A few more questions for you, and we’re almost out of time. I have to ask you about what’s happening in Michigan, the Senate race there. Dr. Abdul El-Sayed has apologized to Jewish Democrats for comments he made after the attack on a synagogue in March when he said, quote, “Hurt people hurt people.” That comes as he’s also faced scrutiny over his association with Hasan Piker, who some Democrats this week denounced for what they called antisemitic remarks from Piker. Do you believe that this divide within the Democratic Party over Israel and antisemitism is becoming a political liability that could hurt Democrats in November?
REP. JAMES CLYBURN:
I don’t think will hurt Democrats at all. Some Democrats who get painted with that brush will have to defend the things that they’ve said. I have spoken with the good doctor. He’s our nominee. I support his election. I take him at his word. He has apologized. He says he’s — he will not campaign with Piker anymore. I think that it’s worth taking him at his word. All of us deserve second chances.
KRISTEN WELKER:
Very quickly, Rob Sand, the Democratic candidate for governor in Iowa, says former Vice President Kamala Harris should not run again in 2028. When you look to 2028, Congressman, do you think Kamala Harris should run for President again?
REP. JAMES CLYBURN:
Now, that’s up to Kamala Harris. I supported her when she ran the last time. I would consider her among all the others if she were to run again. But whether or not she should run is a very personal family decision that I will leave up to her and her family.
KRISTEN WELKER:
All right.
REP. JAMES CLYBURN:
And when they make that decision, whatever it is, I will then make determinations as to what my actions would be going forward.
KRISTEN WELKER:
All right. Congressman Jim Clyburn, thank you so very much for being here. We really appreciate it.
REP. JAMES CLYBURN:
Thank you very much for having me.

The Republican Party, the Party that wants to destroy itself.
Sold to bidder #4, the RNC.
“Few men have the virtue to withstand the highest bidder.”
~George Washington
(Good morning, monti ☕)
the sooner folks accept there is but one party, the sooner forward progress can commence
the 2 party psyop is a grand illusion
full stop
Two cheeks of the same a$$.
Yeah…but the real dirty ones hide in the crack!
Too many people addicted to their hatred of the Democrats to see and admit the truth.
There is no party…….
It is an entrenched establishment with various names working together against the American people!
They are rotten people…..all of them….
Yeah….but the real dirty ones hide in the Crack!
And….toilet paper does not work!
The Republican Party destroyed itself 10 years ago. It’s just been a slow bleed-out.
No, it Sold Itself out to the highest bidder.
Mindless post. You’re in the wrong place, communist. You will influence no one here.
Your thinly veiled insult is your reference to the acceptance of Trump as a republican candidate for president in 2016… You my friend are the idiot… You my friend are the voter that the RINO ESTABLISHMENT ACTUALLY COUNTS ON TO gobble up what they spew out.
You’re doing a great job
Why is it that you are unable to respond to someone else’s opinion without insults and name calling, please ask yourself if this is the proper place for you?
So sad that the very first place the communists placed their cleaving knife was into the fresh and open wound of the American Civil War.
The communists were all in the South fermenting ill will since forever.
Stay aware……the narratives will increase as the dim party wans.
BTW FDR tried packing the court to get his way on the Socialist New Deal…….does our current corrupt Congress have the stones to tell the communists No!
History keeps rhyming.
FDR didn’t get to pack the court. But he got to appoint 9 Justices.
Though even before that, somehow after the threat, decisions started to go his way.
Clyburn wants to pack the court so Democrats will get their way.
If Republicans tried to do this the MSM would run front page articles denouncing them every day. But since Democrats want this, the MSM remains silent.
Life can only be fair if Democrats cheat…..thinks Democrats.
Don’t you think it would be hilarious if President Trump actually stated that he wants to do just that? Then let the freaks on the left explain why it is a bad idea if republicans stack the Supreme Court but it’s a great idea for the demonic left to do it? Let’s have that conversation.
That would actually be a useful test.
If the SAME proposal suddenly becomes “dangerous court packing” only when Republicans might use it, then the argument was never really about principle.
Same power. Same rule. Same standard.
the real principle should be simple: if stacking the Court is wrong, it is wrong NO MATTER WHO does it.
This is a great idea. Someone in Congress should float a bill to expand the court, not to really do it, but to watch the heads explode and see the commies try and explain why it’s now such a bad idea. It could be a useful political weapon for the midterms.
so Rush-like. demonstrate absurdity by being absurd.
If conservatives can’t be bothered to get out and vote in November, we’re in big trouble.
the importance of voting pales in comparison to the importance of who is in charge of tabulating the votes
We get what we vote for and we deserve what we get.
If we don’t vote ,then we hand it over. This is one of the only ways to fight. We know and have seen the evidence from the 2020, 2022, and 2024 elections. Democrats have stolen the down ballot in many states. Even with the election rigging, MAKE IT “TO BIG TO RIG”. Overwhelm them. Put them in fear.
Fight, Fight, Fight!
This is true, but it’s all about fraud control. President Trump ran an effective fraud control operation in 2024, so I hope we will see a repeat this year.
The conservatives here in SC, we lost the midterms in the primaries. To the president no less. Finding motivation for November is hard.
Because stomping your feet when you don’t get your own way is so productive…
/s
There’s no excuse not to vote. I’m 5 minutes away from my voting location. I could easily walk to get there if I wanted, weather permitting. No more than 10 minutes, 15 if there’s a line, to vote and then 5 minutes back home. No more than 30 minutes to get up off my a$$ and go vote to keep the d@mn communists from stealing control of our state and country. Once they’re in power, you can’t vote your way out of communism! And that’s what we’re up against in November, folks, and then again in 2028! If they fail to steal the November midterm elections, expect them to come back fully “armed and dangerous” in 2028. They will never give up and we must NEVER let them take our freedoms from us! God Bless America!
Mare Magnum was a old name for the Mediterranean, but when the Romans used it, what they really meant was “OUR sea”.
So is the use of “Democracy” by Democrats (or Eurotrash leftists).
Hopefully the Justice Department and FBI have an active RICO investigation underway in those 7 key counties. If not, I fear James Clyburn will get his wish about the Supreme Court. If they are not stopped there will be no Too Big To Rig in our future. There is nothing more important than stopping election fraud. Our very future as a nation depends on it.
President Trump should announce tomorrow that in an attempt to show that he can work with the damcrat party, he will be in full support of their proposal to add 4 justices to the court, name the 4 he will nominate and call on Schumer and Jeffries to push through the legislation needed to increase the court immediately, fast trak it through and he will do as they want and nominate the 4 he has named immediately upon signing the bill into law.
Make them put up or shut up.
Ha! Be careful what you wish for.
this guy is a black eye on America
The supposedly Republican SC Legislature protected Communist Dem Clyburn’s rigged district. Miss Lindsey’s SC is a joke.
Uniparty knows no allegiance.
Two big mistakes in the Palmetto state this week……. electing Miss Lindsey’s sister in the Republican primary and the state legislature protecting Clyburn’s rigged district. What the hell is going on in SC? It must be all of those darn liberals and carpetbaggers moving here! 😵😠🤮
Open primaries
She had Ted Cruz on first plugging his new book about the accomplishments of Clarence Thomas – a veiled attempt at impartiality, I guess. It boggles my mind that his widely known shenanigans from 2024 will remain swept under the rug. It really is all worms.
I will truly enjoy reading his obituary the sooner the better
What a disgusting bigot Clyburn is. He is guilty of a lot more than just vote fraud.
Yeah, he’s a big-ot , a big disgrace to SC and a big wart on everyone’s ass!
James Clyburn’s seat is up for re-election November 3rd, 2026. Ballot Pedia thinks the he’s a shoe in, in a heavily democratic area. I just sent a list of questions to the republican candidate running against him. Apparently, John Peterson (R) is a Trump supporter according to Ballot Pedia. But I have questions regarding his stance on issues that were not answered.
Even on the current court we are just one robe away from tyranny, and it is full of illegitimate cowards.
I shudder every time someone confidently declares “dont worry the court will fix this.”
I remember Lindsey Graham ever so nicely asking Ketanji Brown Jackson a softball question and then smiling at her saying “and you will be confirmed”. Sounded like the hearings were all for show…it was already decided and agreed to by the Republicans.
They agreed to it when KBJ was confirmed to Merritless Gargoyle’s seat.
As SD outlined, she was maneuvered into place for the SCOTUS nomination when Merritless Gargoyle was nominated to AG.
What is a woman? Ketanji Brown Jackson chose not to answer that question because “she is not a scientist”
However ‘she, he, they, them, etc” is related by marriage to Republican Paul Ryan, former Speaker of the House.
Cool beans!
Dear Ad REM
Fat fingers sent a misspelled email address. Sorry
“What is a woman”?Ketanji Brown Jackson chose not to answer that question because Ketanji ” is not a scientist “.
Ketanji Brown Jackson is related by marriage to Republican Paul Ryan, former Speaker of the House.
Cool beans!
And part of the group telling Zelenskyy, “You are among friends here.”
Everyone who was paying attention from 2020 on knows the clown installed as Prez was NOT the real Joe Bribem! Not to mention he was installed through fraudulent means. Fraud should wipe out every order and appointment this phony Obummer figurehead ever did! Those supreme court nominees he installed should be removed and replaced immediately. We have all been defrauded for decades! Enough pretending!
🤦♀️👎😠
She knows how to ask HARD questions.
She knows how to ask AGAIN when someone avoids the answer.
But sometimes she does, and sometimes she does NOT.
People notice that.
That does not seem fair.
As Sundance has said, we are in an ABUSIVE relationship with our government; it’s INSANE!!! 🙁
Who died and made Clown Clyburn king ??
What else is new.
A black racist is going to bees a black racist every time he gets the chance.
This dummy feels that he has a right to act like the (insert the word you may feel is the most appropriate)) he is and always will be.
You see he feels as do most of his racist followers That it bees they time to shine and seize the opportunity to destroy the Supreme Court so theys gets the justice theys be entitled to.
What wrong with you white people voting for a party filled with puppets who absolutely hate you ?
White people bees crazy voting for Ol’ Racyys Clyburn….never met a white folk he didn’t want to jail.
James Clyburn was born in 1940. He is 85 or 86 years old. He is still up to no good. Just sayin James. Time to reflect.
So all the illegals can vote. /sarc
Dumb and corrupt is quite a combination with which to be burdened. Clyburn has high levels of each in spades.
Seems that those are the types that get elected and sent to the Swamp!
“Fat, dumb, Democrat and corrupt is a terrible way to go through life, James!”
~ Dean WD Kirk ~
If adding 13 more justices is such a great idea we should do it now while Trump is president. I’m sure Mr. Clyborn will agree with that! (sarc)
That would be adding 4 more justices for a total of 13, but I agree with your point. DemDumb heads would certainly explode if Trump attempted to do this. I love watching DemDumb heads explode. There’s nothing up there but it’s entertaining to watch just the same!
Be careful what you wish for…
No kidding. Our Republican leadership refused to give Trump his recess appointments. Worse, most republican voters have no idea what a huge betrayal that is.
C-LIE-burn looks like he likes packing things. Probably a fudge-packer, too. Pack your bags, c-LIE-burn. Hope your rayyycisss @ss gets tossed to the curb on election day.
I don’t know if he’s a fudge packer or not, and I really don’t care which side he butters his toast, but I would definitely like to see him pack his bags and get the hell out of SC. People like him often exist even in the best of families, unfortunately. Seems we’ve had our share of “black sheep” lately here in the beautiful Palmetto State, one of the fastest growing areas in the country. To all newcomers: if you’re moving here from a blue state or a blue city in a red or purple state, please check your liberal and woke politics at the state line! We are a red state and we will fight like hell to remain a red state. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
Radical liberalism get them out,
No words to describe the monstrous deceit and treachery of this gutter trash.
Gutter trash? You are being very kind, BMasuda. My description of him can’t be repeated in the company of the kind, decent people here in the Treehouse!
Clyburn= The most racist human being in America today.
Al Sharpton makes a living selling racism, you can not leave him out of that list.
Why wait for a democrat president???
Trump should start stacking the court now. LOL!
So James Clyburn longs for the days of whips and chains? How despicable. The 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments are being upheld everywhere for everyone, even though the SCOTUS got it wrong when interpreting the 14th Amendment and anchor babies. James Clyburn is a racist.
The Republicans are pathetic cowards.
As a constitutional conservative I’m not going to pretend that the composition of the current SC leans in the direction favoring the right. Justice Roberts the head sits there turning a blind eye to politically motivated radical leftist judges making horrendous decisions to impede the current administration. I digress.
He literally sounds like a child who is upset and wants to take his ball and go home.
Love the picture with the disk. If that smile is about what could be on that disk, the fact you are posting it here doesn’t bode well for him. Lol.
I always want one of these journalists to ask these Leftists if they think adding additional SC justices is such a great idea, would they be okay if the Republicans went ahead and did just what they are proposing right now! They wouldn’t want that of course but it would expose the fact that what they want is just to have their way…to have power. If the current make-up of the court was 6-3 in favor of the Left they’d be perfectly fine with the current number.
Maybe we should add those 4 right now…
Would Jimmy be in favor of that?
Hmmm?
Hobson’s choice. The Uniparty is our actual situation. What we are seeing when “R’s” like Thune refuse to act is the ‘real’ government versus the one we want/ think should be.
Ask yourself when was the last time R’s came out and delivered something above and beyond which was positive for America.
This also includes their failure to counter the many or any of the Dem (really Uniparty) actions.
Dem appointed judges are like stop lights every 100 feet. Capable of stopping/freezing travel during a ‘timed’ presidential period 4 years. Have ANY republicans even spoken about or done anything to address these judges OR perform similar blocking of Dems? No.
Time for this rotten carcass to be removed from his so called ‘leadership’ role which to me…..seems more like treason and that he should be held accountable.
Fortunately…..even though I still be.ieve and hope that THAT does happen some day, I’m not holding my breath since we have yet to see any REAL accountability from those behind the coup. If they get away with the coup, then everything else is meaningless!
WE MUST HAVE AND GET ACCOUNTABILITY!
Clyburn stressed the importance of adhering to precedence, and in almost the next breath advocates the precedence smashing notion of adding more ‘Justices’ to the Supreme Court, in fact FOUR more ‘Justices’, all presumable leftists, who are so ideological they do not know what a woman is.
Of courses as a election rigging Democrat, justice means court decisions the uphold whatever it takes for the Democrats to rig election; contrary decisions are injust.
Clyburn is not a serious man, but he is a serious menace.
And yet, “ racism” can only be displayed by white people.
Communism, however, willingly accepts all fools.
Clyburn is clearly not the brains behind this, but he’s one of the untouchable minority front-man for the effort. You can’t argue with their results. Just look at how fast Wisconsin has gone from pretty solid red to completely blue at the state level, including the state supreme court. It’s all happened in a very short time. They even do it to their own when the candidate is unelectable in the general election. That ChiComm crazy broad was openly cheated out of the nomination. They didn’t even try to hide it. What do you think will happen in the Nov elections? LOL, the WI GOP is gonna get creamed (again).
Democrats are doers, republicans are complainers. I give them lotsa credit for doing and they will “do” the supreme court in Jan 2029, if no one does anything about the vote fraud. Continually complaining about election fraud is not fixing election fraud. Fix it or tell us it cannot be fixed, but stop complaining and doing nothing. The fraud in WI is open-air now and it’s hundreds of thousands of ballots every election cycle state-wide. Just think what IL and CA and NY produce. Certainly in the millions.
So if we keep packing the court pretty soon we will have a large SCOTUS the size of the House and Senate.
Jim Clyburn deserves an Attaboy for having endorsed Clarence Thomas. As far as I know, everything he has done before or since has been an Awshit. The R’s who supported him should be primaried ASAP.
This dude is the text book case for Term limits, or entrance exams.
He probably doesn’t know anything about the Constitution.
I also note this NBC twat Walker doesn’t ask a single difficult question, while a conservative guest would face 20 difficult questions.
Both contestants were scum.
