The Congressional “Republicans”, to date, have REFUSED to a single significant DOGE related cut.
In fact the Senate Republicans are trying to legislate the exact OPPOSITE in their attempt to add Mandates which prohibit the Executive branch from doing anything but disbursing money in future spending bills (i.e. the prohibitions will prohibit proactive accounting methods as well as proactive investigation for fraud).
The Congressional “Republicans”, to date, have REFUSED to legislate a single DOGE recommended accounting and management measure that was designed to proactively track the spending of funds as well as proactively investigate to preclude fraud-waste-abuse.
That’s the wondrous work of slimy Mike Johnson, the only one who can stop this. Rs elect the most grifty candidates for leadership. Trump must wonder why he bothers.
Remember, nobody in Congress is living in Washington DC and working for $200,000 a year.

Other government agencies cut 300,000 government employees, restricted or ended grants, contracts, etc.
But so much more needs to be done.
Note I said “significant cuts” as in 10’s to 100’s of Billions and removing as well as combining entire executive agencies.
Congress has agreed to zero major and significant changes.
Forgot to mention that Congress actually sued the president to preserve their Billions in pork when he did try to cut and consolidate agencies.
2016 to 2020 and 2025 as well as 2026 … the president did propose balanced budgets which congress ignored.
By failing to codify anything DOGE … congress has left the door wide open for all the lawfare to date related to cuts the president has attempted.

I am waiting for Scott Bessent to start wearing a monocle. It is perhaps understandable for President Trump’s advisors to have desired to reach out to the George Soros/Hillary Clinton wing, of what is left of the Democratic Party, so they could have brought in Bessent as a gesture. But this guy sounds like he wants to be president.
At least the Great Iran Financial Unprecedented Measures have Scott Bessent’s name on them. If they are rejected, and the policy fails, Bessent can accept the blame and resign or be fired.
As to debt buybacks, the first thing I noticed was no mention by Bessent of any one dollar of cuts to be made anywhere. That was what COVID was about: blowing out the budget deficit forever, deficits in the Trillions, instituting Revenue Sharing, not seen since the 1970s, with the states. Just spend money and lard the In Groups, perpetually. The rest of us can just live with the inflation.

He’s trying to keep long term interest rates from going up so debt servicing costs don’t skyrocket. He can’t control the Federal Reserve or congressional spending. At least he’s doing what he can.
He is trying to keep long term interest rates below 5 percent. Except inflation is about that, so the real interest rate is zero. If the real interest rate measures productivity, then zero means we are consuming as much as we produce, all growth is nominal. Bessent is rowing against the stream.
The Executive will have to keep on pulling accounting tricks until Congress passes a budget that actually cuts spending. Trump gave Congress Doge that showed how they could trim half a trillion of wasteful spending. That would have really helped. Every time the Executive tries to cut waste and fraud the Dems run to the Courts to keep the fraud going.
But Congress, which is ultimately responsible for the budget, does nothing. When will Congress do its job and write and pass a proper budget? When will Congress face the fiscal reality of the US deficit and do something about it? The answer is probably not until it’s too late. Every congressman just wants the park to keep rolling out to their districts. Every year this short termism is one year closer to the ultimate fiscal implosion.
The only other thing Trump could do and should do is start prosecuting Congressmen and Senators from both sides who have benefited from the fraud. Then maybe some of the fraud will stop.

Yes, I never buy store lettuce, radishes etc… I grow my own. As for the beef, I find it is far too expensive to buy from “local” farms. Their prices are insane (over $10 per pound), although paying $30 for 4lbs of ground beef at the grocery store is also insane.

My favorite part of today’s SCOTUS ruling was the dissent by Jackson (Kagan and Sotomayor also dissented, but theirs were relatively coherent).
Jackson said the litigation situation in this case was “Kafkaesque.” I wonder how many of Franz Kafka’s works she’s read. If any.

Another injunction remains to be pushed aside but this is a big and important move.

The Supreme Court has just overruled a block placed by an Obama Judge preventing Trump’s Executive Order to implement safeguards for Mail-in-Ballots.
The ruling now means states must:
-Turn over a list of every voter getting a ballot
-Put unique serialized barcodes on both the outgoing and return envelopes
If a state refuses, USPS will not deliver those ballots.
This is a major election integrity win.
