This morning, we are filing two felony charges, Depredation Against Property of the United States and Destruction of Veterans’ Memorials, in Federal District Court against Melissa L. Farris, offenses that carry penalties of up to ten years in prison. She is now in custody. {source}
WASHINGTON DC – A woman accused of spray painting the World War II Memorial and filling its fountain with bubbles has been arrested, according to Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.
Melissa L. Farris will be charged with depredation against property of the United States and destruction of veterans’ memorials, Pirro said in a post on X. Each offense carries penalties of up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
Pirro shared images of the suspect, with one of the photos showing her spray red paint on the memorial.
“Vandalizing our World War II Memorial is a despicable attack on a sacred monument honoring the Americans who fought and died for our freedom,” Pirro said. “Those Americans include my father and grandfather.”
These people are not mentally stable.

It was also reported that soap was dumped into the fountain. The contents look like powder, maybe soap?
She should be given a toothbrush and chained to the Memorial until EVERY bit of paint is removed by the toothbrush. Guards should be posted so that no one can approach her or give her anything. A female guard can take her 4 times a day for a bathroom break and she can get a sandwich, bag of chips and bottle of water for lunch. She must be on duty working on paint removal from 7 am until 5 pm every day until the paint is removed. She can be given a Gore Tex rain suit and rubber boots to wear if it is raining. The rain should actually assist her in the paint removal. Anyone attempting to assist, impede or provide anything to her will be guilty of trespassing and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Stupid people will continue doing stupid things until there is a just punishment that deters stupid behavior. If she opts not to do the assignment, she should face the maximum penalty allowed under law.
What you are proposing is restorative justice. BTW after cleaning the mess up she should be required to assist with household chores a WWII vet for a few months.
We need restorative justice….even if required to simply pay for the clean up and extra for beautification of another monument. Her in prison is simply an extension of her crime on we the tax paying ciizens by being forced to keep her in 3 hots and a cot plus health care.
