President Trump’s Department of Transportation announced the results of Operation Highway Shield on Tuesday, a crackdown that started in Florida and has since spread across the Midwest into Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Ohio, according to the New York Post and Fox News.

The numbers are staggering. Officials ran 3,487 enforcement stops, pulling 𝟕𝟔𝟔 𝐮𝐧𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐯𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 and logging 51 immigration detentions, 47 criminal charges, 39 incarcerations, 36 English-language-proficiency violations and three cargo-theft recoveries totaling roughly $1 million in stolen freight.

Florida troopers reported that up to 𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐟 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬 at some weigh stations could not meet English requirements. When one officer asked a driver what a road sign meant, the trucker answered 𝘕𝘰.

Asked what a driver should do when he saw it, the trucker again replied 𝘕𝘰.

Federal Motor Carrier Safety administrator Derek Barrs called it a matter of life and death.

The push follows a string of 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞 involving drivers the Department of Homeland Security says were in the country illegally or holding commercial licenses they never should have been granted.

The midterms are now about 90 days out, and Victor Davis Hanson (@VDHanson) says Iran already knows exactly what it’s doing. It isn’t negotiating.

Iran is betting Donald Trump loses the House to what Hanson calls a 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘐𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘦 that would cut off funds for the pressure campaign, then 𝘸𝘢𝘪𝘵 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘬 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘢 𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘺𝘱𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵.

In other words, Tehran’s real strategy runs through 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐬, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 — stall long enough for our own left to hand them the win they can’t take on the battlefield.

Hanson’s counter is simple: turn time back into America’s weapon, not Iran’s.

“…Her legal ordeal began with a 2017 investigation she reported while at Fox News concerning Yanping Chen, a Chinese American scientist whose Virginia institution had received Department of Defense, now Department of War, funding while also attracting FBI counterintelligence scrutiny over alleged ties to China’s People’s Liberation Army. Chen was never charged with a crime but later sued the federal government, claiming officials had improperly leaked information about the investigation. When years of litigation failed to identify the alleged government source, the lawyers turned their attention to Herridge herself, demanding that she reveal the confidential sources who entrusted her with information. She refused, honoring the most fundamental obligation of any serious investigative journalist.

That refusal has come at afinancially debilitating personal cost which Herridge described publicly on X. Rather than accept the principle that reporters must be able to protect confidential sources, the courts have attempted to force Herridge into submission through financial punishment. She was held in civil contempt and ordered to pay $800 a day every single day until she agrees to betray the people who placed their trust in her. Imagine that. Do you have $800 a day? Now there are efforts to increase those penalties dramatically into $5000 a day while preventing outside organizations from helping pay them. The strategy is as transparent as it is reprehensible. If they cannot force her to surrender voluntarily, they intend to bankrupt her into compliance. That is not justice. It is persecution….”

I think after today that it would be a special election. “Under a Kentucky statute, if a U.S. Senate vacancy occurs more than a certain threshold of months before an upcoming general election (with political discussions targeting early August as a crucial marker), a special election must be evaluated or triggered rather than relying solely on a gubernatorial appointment.”
