Your points are correct, unfortunately. With their shorter terms, House members will introduce all kinds of things to score points back home, all the while knowing it will not pass in the Senate, if it even passes the House. I don’t care to read their newsletters and ads saying they were for this or that if it never gets signed into law. Get it signed into law and then I will give them all the credit they deserve.
As for the Senate, they don’t care because their longer terms mean that by their next election most people will have forgetten what they didn’t pass or refused to pass and all the rest of their BS. I think a few of them who lost primaries this time around discovered that the people are increasingly on to them and have not forgotten.
Even what does pass through both houses all too often does not match what they publicly said it contains. They will say “it will do XYZ for the American people!”, but the details will have so many exceptions and carve-outs and rules and restrictions and so on that it might not do any of XYZ. It is all a game they play. And they think we are too stupid and have such short memories that it will not come back to bite them. Our job is to make sure it does bite them.
The US Congress has not been beholden to the people for decades. Lobbyists $$ has bought them and their staff, written the bills, and given them their 10 talking points. And our votes haven’t mattered for a long long time. They have been created when necessary to keep the grift going.
