I have no fact-based idea why President Trump is sending the new Airforce One to the United Kingdom, while the President takes the older airplane. However, I’m pretty certain this is not about having U.S. military stationed at Mildenhall Air Force Base, get a tour of it.

Instead of the threat coming from the Iranians, maybe it was various of the Europeans who posed the most threat and the decision was made not to have him in the new Air Force One while flying over their countries?

I read elsewhere that the new aircraft does not have the anti missile defense system that the old one has. Considering what Iran is doing it seems prudent.
Why wouldn’t the new AF1 have flares, chaff & jamming countermeasures? It does.
Because they weren’t finished with all the upgrades yet. Got it presentable for July 4th/250th celebration but not the full military hardware.

Presumably the refurbished Qatar plane has ALL of the secure comms and defensive measures capabilities that the other ones have?
If this is true, then the only thing that makes sense is that something mechanical came up that caused the USAF to recommend using one of the older planes until further notice.
They would have grounded it for mechanical issues.
Perhaps the sky blue bottom of the old one blends into the sky better than the dark blue of the new one. There was a reason that color was originally picked for the old one.

Possibly the chaff/flare system for diverting anti-air missiles are offline, empty or not installed yet. Or maybe they were used up on the way to Turkey. The old AF-1 has them. Maybe they will be repaired or reloaded in Germany and England. I remember the first time I saw a president on TV. It was Eisenhower lying that we were not missing any planes over the USSR. Qatar gifted it to him. Perhaps he decided that the duplicitous nature of the Iranians was a cultural trait of the mideast in general, and the plane might have a booby trap built in that our CIA and FBI mistakenly overlooked.

Considering a 747-400 just mysteriously plummeted from the air, my first thought was there was a threat against the new plane.

It was a Pakistani cargo plane that took off from UAE and just past the border between Iran and Pakistan it plummeted straight down. They are recovering the wreckage. Apparently, the pilot lost instruments etc… it just stopped and fell.

Please do. I fail to see the connection. The facility that did the upgrade stripped it down to the frame and rebuilt it. Every detail was checked and verified.
It was a custom built bird originally and it is better now.
