I have no fact-based idea why President Trump is sending the new Airforce One to the United Kingdom, while the President takes the older airplane. However, I’m pretty certain this is not about having U.S. military stationed at Mildenhall Air Force Base, get a tour of it.

I read elsewhere that the new aircraft does not have the anti missile defense system that the old one has. Considering what Iran is doing it seems prudent.
Why wouldn’t the new AF1 have flares, chaff & jamming countermeasures? It does.
Because they weren’t finished with all the upgrades yet. Got it presentable for July 4th/250th celebration but not the full military hardware.

It was delivered to the Presidential Airlift Group at Joint Base Andrews on June 19, 2026, and completed commissioning flights just in time for President Trump’s use in early July 2026. It serves as a stopgap to relieve the aging VC-25A fleet.
Final Production VC-25B Aircraft: The two purpose-built aircraft currently under construction by Boeing face significant delays.

The US Air Force Maintainers have an entire Section dedicated to AF1. They will descend upon the aircraft like a horde of ants, researching and solving any possible problem anywhere on that craft, before POTUS sets foot on it again.

The issue has nothing to do with Qatar.
This aircraft is a temporary “bridge” aircraft.
It does not have many of the advanced defensive capabilities as the current VC25A, or the two new VC25Bs that are on order.
This is why L3Harris could do the conversion in a short time. It got many updates, but it’s no planned to ever serve for high risk missions.
It was not left behind. President Trump flew in it and has since arrived safely back to the United States

I join with many others in saying I never liked the idea of excepting a gift from Qatar to fly our US president around the world!! Qatar has a shady history as to their connections with terrorists organizations over the decades. I hope the president reconsiders his allegiance to this new plane and finds ways to fly safely around this dangerous world. Flying is dangerous in and of itself without using foreign built/modified planes. I don’t trust the folks who retrofitted this new plane in the US.
I will pray for Trump to discern for his own safety . Ultimately God is his best insurance.
