Hours before the news broke, Maine Senate Democrat candidate Graham Platner cancelled all his campaign events.
A woman has just come forward to Politico with a direct accusation that Platner raped her.
(Via Politico) – A woman who dated Maine U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner says he forced her to have sex with him nearly five years ago despite her repeated objections, an allegation Platner denies.
The woman, a 41-year-old Maine resident named Jenny Racicot, detailed the alleged incident to POLITICO in three interviews over the past two weeks. POLITICO also spoke with a man Racicot dated and confided in the years after the alleged incident, and reviewed documents, including emails between Racicot and her therapist and messages between Racicot and an acquaintance whom she warned against getting involved with Platner years before he ran for office.

I am sorry the law that condemned rapist to the death sentence has been changed. While working at the Honolulu Police Department I saw some very egregious rape reports. Perhaps a person, male or female, should not get drunk while on a date.

The system is HARD on men and unreasonably so. There was one guy who had been confined to a wheelchair for over 20 years and some woman reported an accusation about him having kicked down her door and ran off. The cops arrested him, confirmed in detail of his chair-bound status, the cop-in-charge never looked up from his desk and stated “he’s faking it. book him in throw him in a cell” and that’s exactly what they did to this guy. So any guy with even this degree of proof of innocence will fall prey to the worst and least credible of allegations by women.
Sorry, but not sorry. When THAT kind of crap stops, I’ll take female allegations more seriously. Because when we can’t tell? I will assume NOTHING is true. Women will not police themselves any more than the black community will police itself. I remember telling a black person the difference between black criminals and black criminals. I told them “white people will DISOWN their criminals. we want them in jail.” The silence in response was deafening. They knew I was 100% correct in that moment.
The credibility problem of women is quite similar. “It’s not fair?” You’re right. It’s not fair the power of accusation they have which leads to regular and common destruction of men WITHOUT any sort of punishment for women in most cases when it’s proven. It’s a crime to falsely accuse people of things and women almost never face that crime for very political reasons.
A woman might agree that it’s wrong. But I never see them opposing these kinds of campaigns and systems in any effective way. This is not a problem men can fix. It simply isn’t. It was created by women and needs to be solved by women.

Question for women. Is there an established process that a rape or abuse victim can follow without filing a police report? Psychologist, therapist, community members, family, or even just the victim herself, should have available a way to document what happened so that if they choose to reveal this trauma down the road, everyone doesn’t just say ” oh you didn’t report it or that was a long time ago”.
Even as a method of therapy it is often helpful to talk or document something that happened. Is there such a thing that is commonly available somewhere for women?
I would say if you are raped and don’t plan to report, do several things.
Photograph any bruises, marks, ripped clothing, etc. with metadata attached. Archive the photos.
If there is any text, email, or other evidence, archive it. Maybe also copy everything to a thumb drive.
Immediately call a trusted friend, advocate, pastor, or counselor, explain what happened to you, why you don’t plan to report it, and why you are telling them about it.
Make a video of yourself, with metadata , detailing what happened. When, where, exactly what you said, what the rapist said, what he did, all of it.
Take all the evidence; clothing, photos, phone records, video, whatever you have, and lock it away in a safety deposit box. Leave instructions with a trusted person explaining under what circumstances the box could be opened without your consent (if you are incapacitated or injured, or God forbid, deceased.
Go to a hospital. It will be on record then plus verified by a doctor.
Interesting timing. It’s not the first time we’ve seen (previously known) information suddenly become public about someone, just at the time it needs to become public.
