Ever since we encountered the first and second wave of information control, a background battle has waged on multiple fronts around the internet. CTH users may encounter disruptions; some information about ‘Subscription Notifications” follows.
I am currently working through another layer of background problem-solving directly related to CTH requests for subscriber notifications. At the core of the problem are decisions on what terms and conditions we are willing to accept.
Currently people can subscribe to have a notification of a new article post. Many people have written over the past several months saying they are no longer getting those notifications. The problem is multi-layered, and at the core is something no one is willing to discuss, because the biggest control mechanisms in your online travel try to keep this information hidden.
Internet Service Providers (ISPs), they’re the entity who you select to use to access the internet (ATT, Comcast, Verizon, or whatever service you pay), long ago began a process to control the content of the information that is processed by their service.
This issue has become more problematic as various nations and governments have also gone beyond their geographic boundary controls with demands upon ISPs to filter information based on determinations of their various bureaucracies.
As an example, the govt of China, Russia, Europe and even Canada may restrict the flow of information available to citizens within that country. Traditionally, they would put control mechanisms in place to block websites or traffic they deemed averse to the interests of that government.
However, as you might have realized with the Social Media restrictions in the USA based on COVID-19 (example), the issue is not always limited to “hostile” countries but can specifically be determined by the subject matter of interest.
With the advent of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), the need for control creates ever-increasing tentacles. One of those tentacles for internet content control extends to ISP companies, who now find themselves subject to terms and conditions of operation; that means they must also adhere to the fiats of the country from which, or to which, the dataflow is connected.
ISPs now create ‘terms and conditions’ for internet traffic. This may be, often is, invisible to you. However, if ATT (example only) complies with the terms (legal requirement), that means putting blocks in place for the traffic. [This is also part of the age verification and digital id stuff.]
How does this apply to email and/or service subscriptions? Well, in order to send you information, a third-party subscription (or even an email service itself) needs to ‘authenticate’ with the ISP.
The authentication is part of the agreement to the terms and conditions. If the information provider does not authenticate, the information transmission can be blocked – you never get the email or the notification.
The ISP demand for authentication or registration is sold as a need to ‘eliminate spam’ or unwanted/harmful content. The ISP is protecting you. However, we have moved way beyond that issue, and now the ISPs are adhering to regulation, and compliance demands on the content itself. This, as you can easily imagine, is a big deal.
The EU has moved beyond blocking sites to blocking content – the actual information itself. [This issue is not isolated to the EU, only provided as an example.]
If an ISP company wants to sell internet access services to the EU, they must accept EU terms and conditions on the content of their service. That ISP company then demands anyone who transmits information through their internet service to authenticate or register with the ISP. If Gmail doesn’t authenticate with the ISP, then Gmail will not work on the network. The terms and conditions from the ISP are now forced upon the information providers.
As an outcome of this mess, in order to send you an email notification, we must now be compliant with the terms and conditions of each ISP. Those multi-hundred-page legal terms and conditions are now determined by rules and regulations that may have nothing to do with the country of origin from where the information originates.
This is a hot mess, but in the era where anonymous internet traffic is now viewed as a threat, it is a natural outcome. My response to all these demands and conditions is….
CTH did not build a battle tank website of information only to later agree to remove the tracks and drive only on rails that other people (ISPs) put into place. Nope. Not happening.
While most information websites in the website universe began forcing registrations and/or deleting their comment systems, CTH built a comment system from the ground up that is specifically designed for you to remain anonymous. I know this can also be annoying at times, but there’s a big picture reason for it.
Here’s the bottom line. I’m looking at options, but I am not going to agree to terms and conditions that ultimately control content – regardless of the pontificating pretenses from those who say, “It’s not about controlling content.” Yes, it is, and I will fight it like hell.
If your email notifications stop coming, first check your spam folder. If it’s not there, it is more than likely your internet service provider has deemed the information too dangerous for your mind to absorb.
In fact, and I’m not kidding about this, 90+% of all internet user issues, problems, blocks and website issues, can ultimately be traced back to this increased control system by ISP providers…. who are ultimately -in my opinion- adhering to government dictates and fiats.
The only thing I can guarantee is that CTH will transmit the signal. The rest of the process is becoming incompatible with the free delivery of information, when contrast against the interests of those who wish to block that signal.
If I figure out a subscriber solution that: (a) does not come with content restrictions, and (b) safeguards your privacy upon subscribing; I will let you know. In the interim, we will keep transmitting as much as possible.

I think you have to have a paid subscription for that. The same with avatars. I can’t afford paid subscriptions but know Sundance needs to make money to keep the site online so I click on ads to pitch in my few pennies because I really do appreciate this site.

While I do think that Sundance and CTH is the best, ounce for ounce…ZeroHedge is, in my opinion, another must read site.
Another thing that I appreciate at the treehouse is how Sundance provides such in-depth information and background and knowledge to us and often years ahead of before it appears anywhere else. But I’ve never found anyone else that presents it as well, even when it finally hits the big news it’s never as thorough and complete as Sundance gives us.
That’s what I do . For years now as a matter of fact.
I have always used the basic choice of having the actual website from which I want information in my reading list; Stored on my computer and to which I go at-will; Notification tools are not necessary because I am able and willing to use personal effort to go straight to the source of my information interests.
Notification tools are a sort of ‘vanity’ option that encourages the reader to assume their time is SO valuable that they must rely on a system that we now know, seeks to control their options. Why bother? Go straight to the source. A website such as this one is ALWAYS posting fresh information.
Notification is a site-owner courtesy that allows control operatives to interfere with your personal freedom of internet movement. You don’t have to play along.
Active vs. Passive engagement. Yes.
That said, when active engagement is blocked by the traffic cops and we try to go straight to source all we see is an error message, “Verboten” or some mundane reason we can’t access the site.
Because that’s where it goes, when, not if. On the current trajectory.
Are you saying that if you type the site into your search bar you can’t get access? If the glitch is in the notification, then it seems by circumventing that control situation, you can have direct access to the site simply by having it stored on your type of computer where you have unlimited access.
At this time, I have never been denied access when clicking directly on the conservativetreehouse.com icon in my reading list. When and if that happens I will take advantage of whatever measures Sundance offers to retain access to his vital information.
I also annually contribute by check through the mail to support his heroic efforts.

‘Security’ is getting out of control. In banking things are getting ridiculous.
There are ‘gatekeeper’ companies that banks and credit card companies use to do verification for people requesting services.
Once you get cross-wise with the gatekeeper you can kiss your butt goodbye.
Have you tried to set up an account with the IRS? They will no longer send checks and require a bank number in an IRS account. Problem is you can’t set it up without a company called IDme connecting through your cell phone or computer camera to get a picture of you holding up your drivers license.
I have an old Tracfone that works just fine except the Android version is too old for the selfie thing. I also do not have a computer camera. Now remember this is for security. The solution they offered after 6 hours of trying is to get a friend or family members tech to get access. What kind of security is that?
Here is partial solution. Go to IRS and set up an appointment. They will verify you and issue a waiver to send you a check. For next year you can add bank account number on your tax forms that allow direct deposit without an IRS account. Think about that. The IRS verifies who you are over the phone but the security company they use can’t. By the way, they also do not allow VOIP for multi layer authentication. They require landlines which are almost obsolete.
What ever happened to “security questions” that pretty much nobody else but you knows the answer?
Tried setting up ID.me for my 93 yo MIL. She does not have a cell phone. My cell phone is in my name and does not match her address or name. Her landline is an old ATT touch tone and does not text. No way to prove id that passes IRS. Same for USPS mail holds. IRS eventually sent her a refund check after 3 months with no correspondence.

I’m in the EU currently, and use a VPN which indicates (usually) that I’m in Jamaica (Caribbean). While it appears I have no issues getting the notifications for new articles, I DO have a problem with this site, as when I post a comment and click on ‘notify of new replies to this comment’, I never get any notifications. I have just tried it again with this comment, and strangely, this is the FIRST time that the little bell has ever turned green. Will see if I get a notification……
When I used to use the auto notification for replies, I always got bombarded with them so quit using it.
Now, if I make a comment I just bookmark the page (ctl+D on most browsers)
then prefix date it as

I used to have dozens of subscriptions. Over time, I whittled them down to reliable, sober, well-informed sources.
I used to subscribe to some people that I now consider quite deranged.
I do check sites I dont agree with because I wish to avoid confirmation bias.

I’ve been getting my notifications – perhaps that’s because I switched some time ago to Proton Mail. Highly recommend to all. I just bought a year of proton that included VPN & junk mail password options & it will automatically forward emails (selectively based on key words) to your GMail account. just used it today (for first time) for a DHL notification for an online order.
Junkmail email address hides my real proton email address as well.

I got Verizon wireless internet after my main ISP went down, Verizon curates (blocks) several sites I frequent & refused to allow me to use a VPN (natively anyway).
I found they blocked grc.com which is a security site on how to properly check your computer for security hazards in a reply to someone’s problem here. This is where I started down the road of understanding how I got hacked…25+ years ago… good info there as well as some good utility programs for windoz.
They don’t even want you to learn how secure your own PC now. SMH

Does CTH get a failed delivery acknowledgement for those blocked emails? I imagine that it would be horrendous headache chasing down all the reasons. Yet, it could give a picture of undesired ISP behavior.
I’ve been sub’d since 2020 I believe. About a year or so ago, 50% or more of my CTH emails were landing in the spam folder. I’d have to go retrieve them ,,,, did that for a few months and “whatever” worked itself out. I’ve been with ATT/yahoo email for many years…ISP is Spectrum.
Dial up modems.
They can’t stop customers from calling for more information.
Comparing my starlink service to spectrum service, starlink is the much better option it seems.

i would suggest a simple solution that would avoid most of the problem: don’t send updates. Treepers should put their big boy or big girl pants on, and just check the site each day 🤗. That’s not hard to do. I check the site several times every day, because what Sundance has to say is well worth that. I suspect a lot of us already do that. Let’s keep the burden of dealing with this complicated mess off of Sundance’s back, so he can focus on posting the information we so much need in today’s world. 👍🫡🇺🇸 Best, David

I agree with sundance the landscape has drastically shifted, especially recently.
The major email networks (Gmail, Yahoo, and specifically Microsoft/Outlook/Hotmail) have deployed aggressive AI-driven filtering algorithms and strict authentication rules. If your site is firing notifications directly from your web server without deep, enterprise-grade authentication, recipient ISPs are now quietly throttling or outright dropping those messages before they even reach the junk folder.
I would suggest that you change how your site physically talks to the outside world which you have already stated and your also right not many alternatives in todays rush to control.
Here are the immediate steps to stop ISPs from blocking your notifications:
Step 1: Audit Your Domain’s “Passport” (DNS Records)
When an ISP like Gmail receives an update from your site, it looks for three mandatory cryptographic security keys in your domain settings. If these are missing, broken, or misaligned, the ISP will block it to prevent spoofing.
You need to log into wherever you bought your domain name (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, etc.) and ensure these three TXT records are configured:
SPF (Sender Policy Framework): Tells ISPs exactly which server IP addresses are legally authorized to send mail on behalf of your domain.DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail): Adds a digital signature to every notification header, proving the text wasn’t intercepted or altered in transit.DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication): Ties SPF and DKIM together. ISPs now require a valid DMARC policy. If your setting is incomplete, major providers will reject the mail completely.Step 2: Route Notifications Through an API/SMTP Relay
If your current site uses a standard local mail function (like the basic PHP mail function in WordPress) to blast out notifications, turn it off immediately. That is the number one reason ISPs block traffic.
Instead, create a free account with an enterprise delivery service like SendGrid, Mailgun, or Postmark.
Connect your domain to their platform.They will give you highly trusted, whitelisted IP pipelines to route your mail through.Install an official plugin or extension on your existing site to bridge the two together.Because these companies spend millions maintaining a flawless reputation with ISPs, your mail will bypass the standard blocklists.
Step 3: Implement Web Push as a Fail-Safe (Zero ISP Interference)
If you want a way to notify users that completely bypasses the inbox—meaning an individual user’s ISP has mathematically zero technical ability to block it—add Web Push Notifications.
Using a tool like OneSignal (which has a robust free tier):
Visitors click “Allow Notifications” on your site.When you publish an update, a clickable alert pops up directly on their desktop or Android screen (even if their browser is closed).Because this traffic is delivered via Google/Apple browser delivery protocols over encrypted HTTPS web traffic, ISPs cannot filter individual messages. It is structurally impossible for them to block a notification without blocking all of Google Chrome or Apple Safari traffic.Good luck and I will continue to support your efforts even if you need to alternativly have a paid subscription site to contimue your outstanding efforts.

Don’t fret over notifications. While some people want to be first so there opinion can be seen the most, AI bots can also be used to send a generated comment before the adverage Joe could even read the article. Subscribers can just periodically check the sight and you will have a variety of opinions in the first 10 instead of the same faces..
When I send a CT link via text messages, I do notice that recently (the last year or two?), the messaging software no longer passes along a thumbnail of the content, title, or images, unlike almost every URL that I pass along. That is both on the sending side and the receiving side. I get the same effect with some controversial X messages even though I can preview 99% of X content.
My RSS feed shows all of your posts as far as I know, but I do go directly to the site every site every so often to make sure just because of the above behavior. Would I be any the wiser if the RSS feed or the message software chose not to pass it along?
It is easy for me to tell when the content is in direct contradiction to the establishment, my ISP only lets me read about a sentence or two before the Antivirus ad kicks in and diverts my page away from CTH. I have taken counter measures to be able to engage the CTH information which work for me, as soon as CTH is opened and stable, my wifi gets turned off so my laptop cannot be redirected. It is not as easy when using my personal tracking device (cell phone)
