The best I got from this is what the Google executive said about “chips” (I hope “chips” is right) that make computing really (amazingly) fast.
Not only is it hard to keep up with President Trump, but with all the changes in the world as well.
Imagine it took millions of years for humanity to get to where we were in 2000. And from then to now look how fast huge change is happening….
Not going to make computers work faster per say because of the physical limitations of signal propogation through the rest of the hardware it is connected to, which is some fraction of the speed of light.
However, the real benefit is the massive parallelization of computation allowing for exponentially more calculations per clock cycle. A thousand fold increase is realistic in the near future.
Imagine getting supercomputing levels of performance out of your cell phone in a few years. What this means is that things that require a lot of computation are going to get a lot more affordable.
Does that mean I’m gonna have to talk and type my text messages faster? 😉

But it might make smart glasses or other much more useful for augmented reality applications.

Quantum computing may at some point involve quantum entanglement. Two particles can be separated and when one changes the other instantly changes. The computation and data retrieval will be faster than the speed of light. There will be no distance to travel. Already we know that light “travels” fast. The measurement is space/time. Traveling at light speed means no time has elapsed for the photon. Somehow that is going to be used in computing..

Knees are way tougher than hips, but I seem to remember a couple months before I felt decent. Not much help, huh?
Two years ago I got two new hips.
I had them done at the same time.
It wasn’t that bad.
I was shocked at the swelling.
My legs kept getting bigger and bigger and luckily I had slip on clog like shoes or I would not have had shoes to wear.
I only needed ibuprofen once in a while. It was a dull ache but not painful.
I am glad I got them both done at once. I’d hate to go through it all over again.
Both legs are the same length and they will last the rest of my life.

actually, I am kind of afraid of all the AI business. I saw a video on Youtube this afternoon, with china having robot soldiers/cops walking with regular china cops. And then they showed 2 robots fighting each other to gain advanced learning, so they fight better. Imagine a 100 or 1,000 of these robot cops roaming your streets , looking for politically bad “words” or “scanning your emotional vibes, scanning your blood pressure, and other stuff. Scary stuff.
But I’m sure Trump knows what he is doing, and the people that come after Trump can also be trusted. If terrorist hacks these robots, scary, right. Reminds me of robo-cop movies.

The thing is, most of the AI you see in movies is not the kind of AI that exist in our world today; the appearance of being able to complete some human task autonomously is not the same thing as having independent cognitive function. There isn’t any major science fiction IP that has postulated our current situation with LLMs. Nobody’s ever really bothered to even think about it before.
The big tech dudes live in a very strange, very abstract fantasy land that is highly disassociated from any kind of human reality. AI is not going to hack the missile silos and start WWIII because it decides humans shouldn’t exist.
Honestly, the bigger problems we have are all mundane. Like what happens when this AI bubble bursts.

Yes and I saw a video where a Tesla in full autonomous mode sped accross the lawn of a home in the U.S. and slammed into the house killing an occupant. Remember the Firestone tire debacle involving Ford products and rollovers from “sudden deflation” of tires? Yeah, Firestone was almost bankrupted by the number of law suites. I wonder if Tesla is going to be able to weather the coming sunammi of lawsuites for the failure by their fully autonomous AI to make correct decisions.

A lot of people think quantum computers are just like normal computers but tinier and faster with more storage capacity. They are, in fact, quite different and really only useful for certain applications. Quantum systems are fragile, difficult to operate, and don’t even get me started on the memory problems.
100% we should be developing that tech more fully, but don’t let anybody tell you you’re going to have, say, a quantum-powered cell phone in a few years.
Now I completely understand Quantum Computing after listening to his very simple explanations. He made it so easy to understand! I can’t wait to go to Best Buy and get one in the near future when it’s on sale.
Medical diagnosis and treatment of illness that has eluded mankind may be within sight. Alzhiemers ,cancers..who knows. I for one am looking forward to many breakthroughs.

A lot of money to exploit qubits in complex linear combinations of 0 or 1 (i.e., vector spaces) which is but a way of representing the exponentially large amount of information contained within the probabilities of the particles’ states.
No new dimensions are involved. Really it’s just an isolation of a particle in a state of superposition from the environment so that it doesn’t collapse using lasers, vacuum chambers, dilution refrigerators, etc. to use the wave-nature of subatomic particles to perform calculations in a way that otherwise cannot be performed.
Call it quantum (i.e., “how much”) computing if you like. It’s interesting but I’ll be dead of old age long before they are able to do anything worthwhile with it.
